4Kid$ Entertainment has given up and canceled One Piece, or should I say Dub Piece. There is a God! But they will probably keep the license until it runs out in 2009. Almost anyone will be better than 4Kid$.

Good riddance, give it to someone who actually gives a crap about preserving the quality of the source material.

By 2009 Adult Swim must aqquire the rights on it so that it could be viewed the way it should be before 4Kids ruined it with it's dubbing.

Adult Swim my butt. One Piece deserves to be on Toonami along side Naruto, even with -some- edits. As long as I get uncut DVDs, they can tone it down a bit for broadcast TV for kids, which is who the show really is for. Let's not be selfish here. One Piece is meant for kids. The manga and the TV show. Just because it doesn't fit US standards for a kids show, that doesn't mean older fans should hoard it all for themselves.
Yet 4kids took it WAY too far. Their censorship was disgusting. Their understanding of the series was superficial and they just saw it as a franchise to milk toys and edited dub only DVDs out of.
I don't know if we'll ever see uncut DVDs with subs anytime soon, nevermind a good dub. I'll stick with the manga for now.
Also, DoubleWide, making childish names for 4kids and their version of One Piece doesn't help a fan's argument against 4kids.

Agreed.
I seriously shudder when I think about the episode with Bellemere and how she got "locked up in a cage for the rest of her life." I mean, w... t... f...

But I read somewhere that 4kids is just postponing One piece and
Mew Mew. Personally, I don't mind dub piece because thats
the one that introduced me to any a show as awesome as one piece.
Dub piece was my favorite show and then I looked it up on you
tube. I found out that there was a japenese version and that
the US version was missing alot of stuff. Then the japenese
version became my favorite, not that I still don't like the dub version.
Plus, I was reaaaaaaaaaly suprised when I found out that sanji accually
had a normal voice when I saw the japenese version! That was awesome.
As for my source.....:

How far did 4Kids get with One Piece anyway, did they finish the Alabasta storyline?

No, they didn't. They stopped shortly after introducing all of Baroque Works and Crocodile had captured everyone save Sanji and Chopper.

THANK YOU! Now maybe someone with a brain may acquire One Piece and show it in its ORIGINAL form (without 4kids bullshit)
BTW we haven't seen you in a while SSM12. (in rumble board anyways)

sheesh, I hope this doesnt blow up in your faces guys. I mean if you werent watching it when 4kids was showing it, most others will probably look at it in the same light and at best just experiment. You remember what happened with DBZ? Toonami was showing repeats from when the non-cable networks had it until they felt it had built up a decent in amount of interest. You guys put down Dub Piece all you like when if Toonami does pick up they will most likely show the same dub 4kids episodes from the begining until the end of the 4kids run and if they don't feel that its holding up to their standards you can kiss any New Piece goodbye.
This is true for just about any show.

We can hope that when One Piece is released on High Def DVD, which ever format wins, it will end up over here. It has been suggested that either region codes will be abolished or the US & Asia will be in the same region.

And I'm hoping for peace in the middle east. I'm expecting that about a few hours after the pigs start growing wings and take to the skies.

What's everybody so happy about? The fact that 4Kids has cancelled this means absolutely nothing if a better company can't pick it up.

Yeah. Pretty much. Sure 4Kids is done with that, but that means just about squat. It just leaves the possiblity for it to be picked up by someone else. Then again, there used to be the possibility of uncut eps. I honestly don't know how much better that is now that 4kids dumped it.

I'd frankly prefer nothing as an alternative over 4kids.

So do I. But I can (and have up until now) get those same results by just ignoring the show.

So you'd rather see the series make no money at all and wither and die in America, as long as you get your free fansubs which are the purest form of the media.
See. I got a problem with that. I can't see how people with that attitude are actually fans of the series. If you really like the series and creator, you want it to do well.
I will say thankfully VIz still releases the manga somewhat regularly.

Alternatively, would you like to see its contents and plot mangled to the point where it outright insults the original's creators vision and distributors' presentation like 4kids did? That and One Piece wasn't exactly doing well in its marketability while licensed by 4 Kids anyway(which is probably another reason that they dropped it because on some subconscious level, they knew they fudged it up).
I'm not saying that it shouldn't shown in America(that would sadden me greatly), and I'm certainly not a big fan of buying fansubs (Youtube's the furthest I've ever gone to watching the original uncut version, because I despise piracy) but all I'm saying is editting needs to be handled more carefully and professionally. I mean, look at Naruto, that's prime example right there of good editting. Heck, even Disney's done a better job of editting certain content from Digimon (God bless Wendee Lee). I'm just saying that if someone else licenses One Piece( even if it's not by famous american anime distributers like Funimation, Bandai, A.D.V or Geneon) I just ask it be handled with care.

Last I checked One Piece was one of the all time best selling mangas in Japan, I doubt Oda will starve from loss of American viewers. In ANY case since coming to America via 4kids it has done little except adding to the wondrous stereotype American anime already enjoys thanks to DBZ. In other words do it right or don't do it at all. Is that a terrible expectation to have regarding companies that are entrusted with programming I enjoy?

Fixed.
And no matter how much I like a series, if you ---- it up, I'll get it some other way. As soon as I figured out that Berserk got licensed by Dark Horse, I stopped reading plot guides and scans and waited for it and I've bought every release since then. I was going to do the same thing with Tenjo Tenge, but after I saw that it was mangled during the translation I just downloaded scans off the 'net.
Being a fan doesn't mean I have to blindly support and be thankful for whatever garbage gets shoveled my way. If you can't bring the series over properly then what the hell am I paying (or watching) for? I can handle a few edits here and there like Adult Swim does. But when you dumb the show down so much that it insults my intelligence ("Don't make me shoot you....WITH MY CORK-GUN!") yeah...I'd rather see it die. Trying to take something aimed at the teen+ crowd and making it accessible to 2 year olds doesn't work. You'd think people would've learned from Dragon Ball by now

I think the trouble is we got stuck with the lesser of two evils. One: 4Kids butchering One Piece into... whatever the hell that show was. Two: No release of the One Piece anime in America.
And, yes, thankfully Viz still has the manga uncut. There was that Zoro/Zolo thing, but that's a small price as I've heard of no other changes. Well, Merry Go. Though again, those are both translation choices and not really edits.
As for Tenjo Tenge, a comic shop in Boston I went to used to go to had the Japanese version alongside the CMX one. My roomate would buy the Japanese version.

Anyway, thank you Dear God for giving us our daily dubs and as we never forgive those who badly dubbed against us.
Seriously, I watched the 4Kids One Piece and I cried. I retracted into the fetal position and cried. For hours on end. My eyes still bleed.

Or we could have been stuck with none of the two evils where A: 4Kids didn't go overboard with the censorship and downright intelligence insulting dialogue and characters OR B: Another company could have (and probably eventually would have had 4Kids had not aquired it) do the dubbing for One Piece.
There are somethings you just don't attempt if you know you can't get it done properly, surgery is one of them and dubbing animes is another.

I personally feel that, if the networks feel they have to mutilate an anime to put it on TV here "For the kids" , then it should be shown after 10pm in Japanese with subtitles, that should keep the little ones from watching something they shouldnt
