So we've known for a while about the "smaller than Civil War" scale World War Hulk, but now judging by what has been said in recent interviews, there's also going to be a big X-event around summer 2007, involving all the X books aswell as "something big" going on with the Spiderman line and being told that it's going to be "Spidermans year"...

With conformation that World War Hulk will be having atleast some spin offs (a 3 part X-Men: World War Hulk has been confirmed) Isn't this getting a bit much? I mean, if the stories are good then fine, but at some point we need some breathing space between events.

I mean X only just had HoM and Decimation, Spidey recently had "The Other"...

And won't having three things running at once cause them to take attention away from each other?

I hafta say I am excited for whatever the X thing is though 'cos several people have referred to it as being massive or mind blowing (Axel Alonso, Whedon, Kyle and Yost) and I'm into Hulk for the first time, so I guess the hype machine is doing its job...

I think you mean "World War Hulk."

Thaaaaat's the one! Haha, still got Planet Hulk on the mind.

So I guess thinking about it, these X and Spidey things could actually be more like Planet Hulk than World War Hulk actually. Huge stories, but confined to their titles, and therefore not "events"...

Marvel titles can no longer survive on story telling themselves. Marvel feels the only way to keep the books selling is by doing gimmick stories each year for sales.

And from their point it's okay. Those crossovers are doing wonders for sales. Look how "Mutopia X" sold compared to "District X", how the sales for titles such as "Thunderbolts" and "Cable & Deadpool" went through the roof.

Personally I'm not a fan of these crossovers but as long as there are people that pick up every single crossover title (even if it's only a red sky crossover) Marvel (and DC) will continue to do them.

Where was the X-Men: World War Hulk mini confirmed? I hadn't heard of it.

Well Joe Q practically said it was "The Year of Spider-Man" when promoting the Other. That said, saying there's a big event involving Spider-Man obviously is being timed for the third Spider-Man movie and also that when JMS is apparently leaving the writing chores on Amazing Spider-Man. So I imagine it will have something to do with the mini that he and Joe Q are coming up with that is supposively going to "fix" Spider-Man so he'll be more reminiscent of what Stan Lee envisioned, which I hopefully means that all the Spider-Totem crap is finally put to bed and that it provides a "solution" to the unmasking.

As for the X-Men "event," I'm wondering if it could involve both the return of Magneto and the Scarlet Witch with what happened with the 198 at the end of Civil War:X-Men being tied-in.

Well, in the words of Meatloaf, "Two out of three ain't bad". Can't say I care much about X-men at this point, but the others sound very promising-- particularly Planet Hulk. If I like what I see in X-men: Planet Hulk, maybe I'll give the X-books another shot. Maybe.

I don't recall who the interview was with but it was one of the Marvel.com "spy" interviews...

I think all of these books need a little room to breathe. Get creators on them that can give us a solid year of stories and then let them gain some momentum before you force them into another cross-over thing.

World War Hulk sounds great, but if X-Factor or The Irredeemable Ant Man is forced to tie into it, then I'm going to be annoyed. Those characters have nothing to do with what happened to Hulk. I'm not too worried though, because Quesada keeps saying it will be on a smaller scale than Civil War.

Also: when you've got characters like the X-Men and Spiderman who have three or four books, make ONE of those books tie into the big event. So you do one event book for each of those franchises, plus a miniseries book. That's more than enough cross-pollinating.
