View Full Version : Iron Man controlled by Ultron?

Maybe i'm paranoid, but it seems to me lately that too many of Ironman's helmet designs are starting to resemble Ultrons a wee bit. Seems like it would be right up that nasty robots alley too. I just got back into comics, and it's just one of those little things that stood out to me. Civil War got me not liking Tony Stark too much as of late.
Personally, I hope the civil war ends with Captain America chopping off Ironman's head with his shield, that would make it all worth while^^

Tony's armor has been controlled by Ultron in the past. That whole Sentient Armor dibocle was his doing.

That's hysterical!! :p

Ahhhh. Frank Tieri on Iron Man. A run that truly, truly went up and down, up and down in quality with nearly every other panel. Regardless of that, the only way that Ultron would be responsible for any of this would be under the circumstances of some terrible retcon. It's extraordinarily unlikely that Marvel has planned for through last three years of helmet designs to have Iron Man controlled by Ultron. Besides, the helmet is truly a variation on the modern armor style began by Mike Grell nearly 5 years ago. A resolution like that would be ridiculous.

Oh is that how it ended? I remember briefly getting into Ironman at the begining of that arc and due to monetary reasons I had to drop some books and Iron Man got the axe. I did enjoy the storyline and bowed out right after the armor killed whiplash.

I'm sure it'll be retconned (if it wasn't Marvel's idea to begin with) that the Extremis is the problem.
If it just made him "insane" to begin with or has been tampered with by a third party (like Ultron) I'm not sure about.
What I do know is that it wasn't long after Tony's Extremis upgrade that he started becoming a psycho.

In a Ironman/Cap annual they even introduced the idea of him having a anti-mind control watch.

if its the extremis then his "anit mind controll amour" wouldnt help anyway since the threat wouldnt be coming from outside but rather inside...that being said i dont think its a mind control thing tony has always been pro govt and aside from bill foster dying i can see everything tony has done before in his character. Its reed that i dont understand....

Perhaps Extremis is just amping up Tony's personality then.

Wasn't that the annual where he wiped the fact that he was Iron Man from the minds of everyone who knew that?
...
I'm starting to think Tony Stark has never really been that decent of a guy. So maybe this CIVIL WAR fiasco actually makes perfect sense. :-/

Yeah I was kinda confused on that. I havent followed Iron Man in a while but doesnt he have some kind of new suit where its inside him or something? He doesnt have to put it on it just comes out of his skin? So is that Ultron?

The "undersheath" or the gold bodysuit that the components of the armor attach themselves to is stored inside his body, but the armor itself is stored outside of it - in a briefcase, I think.
The way Tony and his armor morphed looked like there was some reality manipulation going on.

Tony's armor has been controlled by Ultron in the past. That whole Sentient Armor dibocle was his doing.I liked the Quesada written Iron Man story where the armor became sentient but after that the way they tied it into Ultron and Jocasta was pretty lame.

Without being a spoiler, in the end of Mighty Avengers #1, Iron Man resolves into a new figure, who in issue #2 is identified as a female Ultron. (Possibly patterned after Janet Pym DeVine.
The question becomes, how long has Ultron been masquerading as Iron Man?
Has he been behind Civil War all along, or is this a recent development?

No, Ultron has just taken the shape of Janet while apparently possessing Tony's body. Although how much of this is actually true remains to be seen.

He was probably talking about the spelling of her name, not her identity. But yeah. The new Ultron looks exactly like Janet Van Dyne-Pym-Whatever.
Apparently Ultron wants to look like it's mother now. . .whatever Bendis.

To be fair, I wouldn't call Ultron "dressed" at the moment.
The real question is why Civil War needed a retcon that early :) I mean, it's only been over for like 2 months. Maybe Marvel hated their own story as well?
I really don't hope they say Ultron was controlling Tony the entire time. It's such a cop out when something as supposely important as Civil War is retconned so easily. The whole point was suppose to be heroes torn over a difficult decision, so let's ruin that by saying a super villian was mind controlling one of the major players? Lame.

Marvel is not going that way, specially considering how much Civil War sold. Ultron wasn't controlling Tony all the time. And even if they were to retcon it, there would be another ways which would be less ridiculous.

yeah, in new avengers: illuminati 2 the gems were gathered by the illuminati and each member now possesses one of the individual gems.

Yeah, it's covered in the Illuminati specials (issue 2 I think). Each of the 6 Illuminati members (reed, stark, Namor, Dr. Strange, Black Bolt, and Professor X) hold a gem and Reed has the gauntlet as well. Question is will we ever see them use it?

No idea. They just lost them. Gamora was shown pretty shook up after losing her gem in one of the annihilation miniseries books. Something about her being humbled by the power, I can't remember too clearly. Adam Warlock wasn't with her either. How he lost his I'm not too sure. Likewise for Pip.
Thanks for the answers.

When Marvel bought Malibu comics, one of their characters called Rune made his way to the MU, beat the Infinity Watch, and took possession of the Infinity Gems and brought them to the Malibu universe. THat's how the Infinity Watch initially lost their gems. Though I'm not sure any of the Malibu comic stuff is considered cannon anymore.
Anyways, the gems did manage to make their way back to the MU, and Warlock last we saw him did have his gem back. So honestly I'm not sure how he lost it again.
