View Full Version : Pick 5 X-Characters your ... S.W.A.T team

I'm a big fan of self-harm recently so thought I'd do another one of these threads, for the people that 'Iceman week' is leaving out in the...cold. Yeah, yeah
Again, kudos to Venuscameback at LiveWireWorld (http://livewireworld.net/phpbb/index.php).
.................................................. ....................................
Pick a squad of 5 X-Characters to serve on high risk missions such as preventing terrorist attacks, facing armed criminals and hostage negotiating.
However, unlike a regular SWAT team there is NO body armour or weaponry. They have to rely on their skills and powers.
Give reasons for your choices. If you don't you're officially boring.

Shadowcat - Hostage Negotiation (see issue where she saves Nightcrawler from the crowd of haterz). Impervious to harm while phased. Can also phase hastages out of danger.
Colossus - Bulletproof. Double-hard bastard.
Polaris - Any bullets she can stop with her magnetic powers. Could cause all metal weapons to malfunction.
Wolverine - Pretty much unkillable. Bullet sponge. Can kill terrorist scum.
Marvel Girl (jean or rachel) - Depending on wether they have psychic defenses, could telepathicly affect adversaries into possible giving up.

I have to pretty much agree with you here, these characters are practically untouchable in this type of situation.
Secondary options could include:
Cable- the dudes been a soldier for what? 50 years? The dude knows whats up.
Warpath- with his superspeed and reflexes, he's easily a bullet timer.
Cannonball- as long as he activates his blastfield, nothings gettin through. Not to mention his speed in flight would be a huge advantage.
Longshot- luck abilities beat bullets everytime.
Domino- see "Longshot", she's also been a soldier for a long time, so thats a benefit.
Gambit- the man's extremely agile and tends to have luckyness on his side as well.
Nightcrawler- how you gonna shoot someone that can disappear with the speed of thought?

Why no emma frostness...mind control and when required bulletproof!
Becuase TP/TK can do the samething and w/o the added power of Mutant Herpes.

That didn't go well.

SWAT needs to be quick, effective and not afraid to do what's necessary (IE Kill if needed)
(I am also going to try to refrain from using any of the peeps I used in the first black ops team)
So I picked:
Polaris: Leader and Power-house. She showed in X-factor that she's got the brains and the guts to do dirty jobs
Colossus: Cuz he's made of Rage baby.
Wolvie: He's the best there is at what he does. and what he does kills baddies.
Magma: Again, not afraid to be bad enough to get the job done. Plus she's a powerhouse too.
Karma: Possession is a skill you need when someone is about to push the button or pull the pin.

Becuase TP/TK can do the samething and w/o the added power of Mutant Herpes.
Cyclops is more than just Emma's mutant power, Brian! :evilangry
Paulie Provenzano - indestructible mob guy
Rachel Summers - powerful? telepath and telekinetic
Cable - he whose mutant power is to use guns ;). Other than that he can hack into computer systems if I'm gathering his powers correctly.
Darwin - could be a crazy kamikaze like character. Likewise, he's pretty indestructible.
Gambit - agile, powerful, and willing to do what it takes
Plus, if these five meet their untimely death I wouldn't shed a tear.
Well, except maybe for Paulie. ;)

Polaris - Magnetic powers tear things up and wrench weapons from enemy hands
Fantomex - Willing to kill, stealty, has own spaceship.
Cable - Overloaded, Militaristic, Telekinesis, Willing to kill
Colossus - Difficult to harm, Can smash his way through things, Super Strength
Kitty Pryde - Smart, Technology, Ninjitsu, Intangibility

Cyclops is more than just Emma's mutant power, Brian! :evilangry

Cyclops - Leader, tactics. His power can be both precison based or just blunt forced
Jean Grey - TP/TK are probably the most valuable powers
Iceman - Freezing a body like he did to Legion would be perfect for quick in and out missions
Beast - Smart, agile, strong, good w/ technology
Angel - Scout, can pick off anyone trying to escape
---------------------------------------------------
Now for another team not based on the Originals
Cable/Bishop - Soldiers for a long long time, combat experience
Madrox - Need back up? Slap his ass
Dazzler - Flashbangs to disorient victims and Fabulous hair to stun them
Rogue - Becuase every team needs a badass.

I would pick:-
Shadowcat: Her powers would make her pretty much invulnerable to bullets, and she is a good negotiator. And if neccesary she can kick the snot out of people.
Karma: Her posession powers would make her very useful in hostage situation, she could also work crowd control.
Nightcrawler: Again he is a pretty good negotiator, also his teleportation and shadow blending powers would make him useful in conducting recon or in getting any hostages to safety. Plus like Kitty he can kick butt if neccesary.
Colossus or Warpath: In case the team needs a bullet proof tank to break things and make a mess of people's faces.
Cecelia Reyes: Her force fields and medical experiance could come in very handy.

I don't think Warpath is bullet-proof, is he?
mcgaffer
12-05-2006, 09:24 AM
Wolverine- He's been trained in this sort of area with Weapon X and the CIA.
Fantomex- He was made especially for these types of missions.
Cable- Leadership, combat, search and rescue, guerrilla tactics. Nathan did'nt just learn these skills he perfected them.
Bishop- He's a cop, he's done these missions before.
Rogue- She's sneaky enough to impress Wolverine and ruthless enough to impress Cyclops.

Near enough. His skin is near unbreakable.

The Acolytes, of course:
1.) Cargill -- the leader, has the brains and the experience of being a mercenary much longer than the others. Plus, her steel-hard skin would let her withstand any attacks criminals might do.
2.) Unuscione - the human shield, she'd use her exo-skeleton to provide invulnerability to her teammates at all times. The team would never have to worry about gunshots or explosions, because she'd just protect them. She would also be able to attack offensively, making for a good all-around S.W.A.T. member.
3.) Kleinstock Brothers - the muscle, I count them as one, despite there being twlo of them. Even though Cargill is stronger than them, they are also the long-range blasters. So, their super strength paired with their enery projectiles would make them the "fighters."
4.) Scanner - the computer expert, she would also serve as the scout who would be able to enter various rooms without worrying about getting harmed.
5.) Neophyte - the quick "get-away" boy, his powers would enable him to just grab his teammates and quickly flee if the going gets too tough. He could also, like Scanner, scout ahead.

Wolverine- one man army. Plot device healing powers.
Cable- Big guns. TK/TP
Cyclops- calls the shots via technology or Cable's TP. Powerful long and short range.
Fantomex- agile, ruthless, cool.
Bishop- experienced, nice use of powers, brain of a cop.
dellicious
12-05-2006, 11:32 AM
storm- provide fog for cover, lightning for disposing of circuit based things like robots, ice for rendering stuff immobile, and wind to keep stuff back and disorient, lockpicking skills, and a pretty good fighter
jean/phoenix- can make short work of a lot of obstacles or people with molecular telekinesis, can keep the team in contact telepathically, super charge them so they can perform at their best, can take control of bad guys telepathically freezing them or putting them to sleep, telekinetically act as a super strength character, has amazing defense skills via tk shield not just for herself but potentially for the whole team. all this plus she deals incredible dual damage on various physical levels and psychic planes.
cyclops- unparalled strategist and leader, optic blasts are powerful both in close quarters and up close.
nightcrawler- a swordsman, agile, blends into shadow, can teleport past obstacles and is good at surprise tactics. the ultimate stealth for the team when they need the subtle touch
wolverine- best fighter, healing abilities, and wildcard. adamantium is unbreakable and can slice through any material is a plus and he is virtually unkillable. could also track people that might be shielded telepathically. works as great support or solo
these 5 can take on anything whether it be swat missions, stealth missions, search and destroy, rescue, etc
its well balanced and they have all their bases covered
not only that but they have actual experience working with each other and their personalities all play well off one another

SWAT team, huh?
Deadpool: Heavily armed, has a better healing factor than anyone else, and he kills without hesitation. A mite unpredictable, but a SWAT-type mission doesn't exactly need subtlety.
Cable: Think of him as Deadpool's "handler". Able to match Deadpool's shining example in a firefight anyday, and is also a capable telepath/telekinetic/technopath.
Juggernaut: Nothing stops the Juggernaut. Absolutely nothing. That, and he's so ridiculously strong that he could bust through any obstacle.
Pete Wisdom: Finger-knives as hot as the sun? Check. History of covert ops? Check. Willingness to kill? Check. Badass attitude while doing it? You betcha.
Quicksilver (pre-Decimation): Send him in first. He'll dodge any fire, get around any defense, and disarm/disable so many people in the opening milliseconds of the conflict that it'd almost be unfair.
But if I can't dip into history like that, then replace Quicksilver with...
Siryn: Her sound attacks can do a lot of damage to enemies or obstacles, while her new voice modulation abilities would make a good pre-empt before they unleash Deadpool into the mess. A primo hostage negotiator, too.
I think it's a pretty original team (out of my whole lineup, only Cable has been used elsewhere in this thread). And it can sure as hell get the job done.

1. Cable
2. Wolverine
3. Juggernaut
4. Bishop
5. Warpath

Bishop - Military/police training, negotiation skills, energy absorbtion and redirection. Contacts in various law enforcement departments, too.
Colossus - The wrecking machine; impervious to most physical attack. Plus he can shield innocents with his metal frame if it comes down to that.
Cable - Military training, computer hacking, "cyberpathy," teleportation, on-again/off-again TK/TP. He and Bishop can take turns as the team leader.
Jean Grey - Telekinesis/Telepathy. TK for shielding innocents, disarming terrorists and criminals, etc. Telepathy for team communicating, picking up on enemy plans via mindscans, and mind control.
Shadowcat - Intangibility and ninja training make her the stealth element, plus she's no slouch with computers herself.

Michelle Rodriguez would be on my team.
jcp011c
12-05-2006, 05:37 PM
Cable - with his TK and his self style brand of armory, it'd be a sure bet if he didn't get in the first shot, he'd get in the last.
Shadowcat - Hostages? Can't keep hostages that are intangible.
Iceman- Terrorists have bombs and use fire. Fire vs. ice = negated threat.
Emma Frost - she would be the psychic, and has diamondhard skin. Plus, eventually one member of a SWAT team's gonna buy it....so...yeah. She's got away team ensign in red shirt written all over her. :D
Cannonball - he's the flyer, ariel reconnasiance. Plus he's virtually invulnerable while blasting.
Plus, you have a good mix of people who are not the most interested in following orders and playing by the rules (emma, cable, and somewhat Cannonball) versus people who are a bit more level headed and P.R. oriented - Icemand and Shadowcat. As squad commander I'd either have it be Cable or Shadowcat, maybe Cable as field and Kitty as planning/stategy.

Bishop - He's a cop.
Sage - Best to assess any situation and advise as to the best way to handle.
Skids - Can protect the team and cover hostages.
Karma - The best able to stop the situation before it becomes a fire-fight.
Archangel - Awesome hand-to-hand combatant, aerial reconnaisance, experience, bank account, etc.

I don't see anyone picking Storm to lead...um.
Bishop_Proudstar
12-05-2006, 06:58 PM
Storm - weather effects, fog, thunder, lightening for cover. she can conjure winds to bring-down jets, and disrupt equipment.
Wolverine - Not much else needs to be said here. Oh..yeah. Field leader and tracker.
Psylocke - with Telekinetic powers, and ninja training. I could choose the "Crimson Dawn shadow powers", but I'll pass, and remain "current". Before she was missing from The X-Men, she began to incorporate her TK into an form of "exoskeleton-strength sheild". I'll take some of her strength along with the quickness and stealth she provides.
(This squad will be a quick-hitting, takedown-or-rescue/evacuation squad. Speed and reconnaissance is key. most of these characters were part of Claremont's X-treme/X.S.E. Team. I just realized that he could've picked the same characters for the reasons I state here)
Nightcrawler - Field leader smarts. He can carry on as leader, if other leaders fall. Teleportation makes him my choice over the likes of Gambit. He replaces the "shadow camouflage" that Psylocke lost from The Crimson Dawn.
Sunspot - he is my "All-Around Player/Specialist".
He has a bit of everyone else's powers. I would've picked Rogue, if she still had Ms. Marvel's powers as her primary imprint.
Flight. Shadow/Night/Dark covering. His strength is in Marvel's "Low-to-Mid Power Class". Still, when his strength is paired with Psylocke's new "TK Strength" and quickness, they can hit more powerful beings with more speed and from all angles.
He has HFC/X-Corp Connections around The World. No telepathy, but he has help from Sage. Sage's mutant-mind will allow her to be a part of Excalibur, and aid him. She has invested interest in his survival, and would probably have a low-level Telepathic connection with him for this reason.

Pretty cool team. I might switch out rogue for kitty though for reason's mentioned by all the others i think kitty would be good here, but the rest of your team is damn cool!

Assuming that a SWAT team stresses teamwork, tactics, and the ability to put out a lot of hurt:
1: Cable
2: Bishop
3: Cyclops
4: Wolverine(non-berzerker)
5: Sage

a mutant swat team...interesting concept...
so lesse...team leader, scott of course...computer experience and sleath -- we'll do kitty, sage and kurt...any frontal assualt, peter and logan...
aw hell, hasn't anyone realized that the entire concept of the xmen is built on a swat team...

Outback era Armored Psylocke - Team leader and telepathic coordinator. Fighting ability so-so, but an expert negotiator and battle strategist.
X-factor era Polaris - Nobody gets anywhere near here with a gun, and her potential is as strong as Magneto's. She can probably also fry computers, missiles, and detection devices with her EM field.
Wolverine...can take down almost any opponent physically. Super keen senses, battle strategy and ability to "negotiate" with force all good virtues.
Early Bishop - Essentially a one-man s.w.a.t. team already. One of those X-men who likes to use guns and technology.
Northstar - Quicksilver's speed, but also an energy wielder. In the event of needing to do something so fast you can't see him, nobody's better. Jean-Paul can fly, too, which is another good thing because only Lorna can fly among this group.
Taskmaster
12-06-2006, 10:50 AM
1. Bishop - team leader, basically a one man SWAT team by himself between his energy absorbtion etc.
2. Wolverine - unkillable and willing to kill, perfect for this team
3. Warpath - super strong, super fast, can fly and willing to kill, unstoppable
4. Gambit - willing to kill, great at stealth and good in a fight
5. Juggernaut- a tank, nothing is stopping him
If they can use weapons as a SWAT team change it up a little to:
1. Bishop
2. Forge
3. Deadpool
4. Cable
5. Juggernaut

A key question here is 'what do we mean by SWAT'. Real-world SWAT teams aren't for 'take the enemy down, whatever you have to do', they're for 'deal with the suspect while minimizing danger to civilians'. As such, a major objective for a SWAT team (vs a straight-up combat team) is containment. When designing a team, I'm going to ignore people who have powers that would be useful but are psychologically unsuitable, such as most villains.
My team for this job:
Rachel Summers (or another telepath/telekinetic): telepaths can locate bad guys and civilians, get information subtly, and have a chance of taking down bad guys without giant blasts of energy that can cause collateral damage. Telekinetics are very good at damage control, moving civilians to safety, etc. Hound training seems like an asset here (a pure telepath would be possible as well; I'd probably take one or another version of Mastermind in that case).
Iceman: giant walls of ice are pretty good for containing a situation, and he's pretty useful in a fight as well.
Nightcrawler (or another teleporter): being able to get a team in fast, to surprise the enemy, can be critical, and Nightcrawler is also a good talker.
Shadowcat: not an incredibly strong combatant, but can get people out of trouble fast and penetrate a lot of areas.
Polaris, or Magneto if he's currently sane: a broad ability to control the environment, which helps with protecting people, plus a strong combatant.

Here's my choices.I also posted this over at LWW:
1) Bishop-he's not only got the power, but he's been in several types of law enforcement, plus he's just hardcore. He definitely should be in on that.
2) Cable-has a take no prisoners approach, and would be able to take down any hostile. Plus he has tons of military experience and leadership capablities to boot. An assest to any SWAT squad. Plus his telpathy (I'm including that here) will come in handy for negotations.
3) Wolverine-does this even warrant an explaination? I think it's self-explainatory.
4) Colossus-heavy hitter, but will be able to protect any hostages from assault with his tin hide.
5)Nightcrawler-in and out with stealth. Kurt can also hold his own.
