while quering on what batman graphic novel to get for christmas, I came across superman/batman and thought, Hay Jeph Loeb, Hay duel narrative between characters, this looks great. Besides buying ALL the war games is too expensive and I can't be sure about under the hood or face the face (opinions on any of the previous three titles would be great too!)

But I'm unsure about which volume of superman/batman to get, anyone with advice? Superman fans as well as Batman fans plz!

I'd advise against War Games. It's long and expensive, and really only served to create a new status quo for Batman which has already been abandoned.

As far as S/B, I thought the first two arcs (the Luthor one and the Supergirl one) were pretty enjoyable, and had some important developments for DCU continuity. The other two arcs are Loeb being very freewheeling and irreverant, which he's good at, but which isn't everyone's cup of tea.

The 4th arc, the one featuring 'The Maximums' is a lot of fun. It isn't as good as 'Public Enemies' or 'Supergirl', but its a blast to read. It starts out confusing as hell, but once you figure out what's going on and where the 'new' characters come from, its great. The second time you read it, you'll appreciate it even more.

I really like Batman/Superman "Public Enimies" and "Supergirl", well written and made a big difference in DC Universe. I also really liked "Face the Face", a good classic story to bring Batman back after the Infinite Crisis.

Yep first two arcs are great and tie in with IC a bit.

I love Luthors insinuation of the IC at the end of Public Enimies.

Hmph, I'd advise against all of Loeb's S/B run, personally (save for Absolute Power, which was pretty good), but that's just my two cents. Ditto for War Games and Under the Hood. Face The Face was a breath of fresh air after the all bad storyarcs in the Bat-titles pre-IC and features the return of many classic characters, so I'd heartily recommend that one. As far as fairly recently released Batman TPBs go, Matt Wagner's Batman and the Monster Men and Ed Brubaker's Batman: The Man Who Laughs are both really good stuff, highly recommended.
