What is the situation with Genosha?

Is there any possibility it could be rebuilt or has it been far to destroyed for that to take place?

Would there be any reason to do so? I don't think there are enough mutants clearly with M-Day but what about former mutants who still aren't accepted because they used to be mutants and would rather be around others like them or mutants in general?

How real could the possibility of them going back be?

When the Avengers were there, it looked pretty much flattened.

I can't see why anybody would want to go back to it, but no doubt it will resurface in the x-verse at some future point.

Genosha's original appearances, in UXM's #235-238 and the X-tinction Agenda were excellent. After that, not so much (IMO).

If the Decimated mutants find out that Magneto can repower them, I think Genosha will become overrun with former mutants seeking help, refuge, and returned powers. Magneto would once again be revered by them, and it could even spawn a new Acolyte-type team.

He can? Did I miss something?

I think Genosha should be left as it is. (until I write my Toad mini that is...I wish).

I wish they would rebuild Genosha, but the only problem is that 99% of the mutants on the planet are gone now, so the only thing you could really do to the country (to make it relevant) would be to return it to the original mutant hating status quo.

Personally, I would have prefered seeing more survivors of the attack and Genosha being rebuilt after the initial attack. HoM could have been worked differently so that we would have seen a decline in the mutant population, but no where near as drastic as was shown. From there a multitude of things could have been done, but what I would have found to be the most interesting would be a Civil War breaking out on the island between the surviving mutants and humans that want to retake it. That would have added a great element to the X-Mythos and given a great starting point for many stories.

Genosha's original appearances, in UXM's #235-238 and the X-tinction Agenda were excellent. After that, not so much (IMO).I agree. Genosha is one of the many misinterpreted concepts introduced in one of the later phases of the defining run. Uncanny X-Men #'s 235-238 introduced Genosha magnificently. Later use in Uncanny X-Men #'s 256, 259, 262-264 were consistent. While X-Tinction Agenda did not go over as originally planned (hence, some inconsistencies), it was still classic. Genosha's appearance in X-Men (2nd Series) #'s 1-2 was also good, because revenge on Genosha from human-hating mutants is a logical plot development in the fallout of X-Tinction Agenda. I don't think that Alan Davis made an awful decision to make Magneto the president of Genosha. I just think that most (but not all) of the writers who inherited this status quo from him handled it poorly. Genosha has probably become one of the most convoluted key locations in the X-universe. There's no consistency in it. There's no long-term investments in plot build up. From Claremont to countless writers in the 90's to Davis to Lobdell to Morrison to Claremont to Bendis to Hine...Obviously, there are some creator differences. Makes me more excited for GeNext. :p
