What do folks think of the Bobby Drake/Opal Tanaka relationship? Do you think it worked well storywise? Was it good for Iceman as a character? Were they a good match when they were together?

I liked the Bobby and Opal dynamic.

First, they were a good match as far as personalities. Opal was down-to-earth. She worked at a record store. I think she simultaneously allowed Bobby to be his fun-loving self, but to show that he's matured from the 16 year old he started out as.

Second, in the larger picture, it was part of human-mutant dynamic that I would have like to have seen continued. At that point, X-Factor was exploring one-on-one interactions between humans and mutants: Bobby and Opal, Hank and Trish Tilby, Warren and Charlotte Jones. I think that promoted the idea that Xavier's dream can work and rang true. I think too often the X-books have isolated the X-teams from humans or treated humans as an undifferentiated fearless mass.

It went right to the crapper once Iceman left X-Factor. Opal became a total be-yotch and all I can say is "Good riddance." I wasn't a fan.

I liked the two of them together. It's a shame they had to make her a bitch in the end so that they would break-up.

could it be said that Opal got "Pryor"-itized right out of the books?

She became a bitch when she realized that she was only Bobby's "beard".

i didn't really care for opal. i support x-men dating outside of the team but opal never really did anything for me.
