I keep hearing all this oscar buzz for Dream girls and in particular Eddie Murphy and how he will get nominated. Will this movie restart his career.

I wouldn't count on it.

When Eddie stopped doing stand-up and went strictly into film he really lost his edge.

I think that he would have been far better off following Richard Pryor's example of making movies, including some of some real questionable quality, but stay sharp by still doing stand-up.

Eddie was brillaint back in those days, Steve Martin is another good example, they really lost quite a bit of what made them unique when they walked away from the stage.

I agree.

Get back in stand up, Edward.

Perhaps, but then Beverly Hills Cop 4 will probably bury it.

Everything I'm hearing about DREAMGIRLS indicates that Eddie's performance is amazing. If you couple that with the rumors that BHC IV is going to return to it's original profane & violent roots (remember the confirmed reports of Eddie having conversations with Tarantino about it?), I would say that he could be poised for a Travolta-esque comeback.

Too early to tell. But being in a movie that apparently isn't shit couldn't hurt.

It looks like this will re-start his career. The next question is: Will BeHi Cop 4 kill it just as quickly?

I think it's a big mistake for Murphy to star in Beverly Hills Cop 4; it could stop any momentum Dreamgirls creates. I think his last real hit was Shrek 2.

As stated here earlier, Eddie needs to get back on stage.

But I think he should return as part of an act.

Imagine .... these two guys on stage at the Laugh Factory.

In the appropriate make-up:

Eddie Murphy reprises his "Mr. Rodgers" role; whereas, Michael Richards does his best Jesse Jackson impression.
