Shirley Walker has passed on

Shirley Walker, who composed the themes for BTAS, STAS and BMOTP, passed away Wednesday night after suffering a brain aneurism. She was 61 years old.

This is a shame. She scored her work well and kept it in feel with the characters and moods. She and her gift of making music will be missed.

Oh, no... I was just watching the Clayface episode of the Batman series and thinking how great the music was. There were wonderful themes for the villains in particular. She will be missed.

So much sad geek related news of late.

I've been a big fan of Ms. Walker's work for a long time.
Anything short of actually getting Danny Elfman to do the DC Universe's animated series stuff, she was such a great choice to help shape that world when it started up (since she worked on a number of his projects previously).

My personal favorites of hers were the 'Mask of the Phantasm' score and her work with James Wong and Glen Morgan, especially 'Willard'.

I look forward to hearing her score for 'New Frontier'.

It was definitely the moody and epic sounding music that made me a fan of BTAS and STAS. Ms. Walker will be missed greatly.

Before yesterday, I never knew she actually conducted Elfman's score for BATMAN (and many other Elfman scores, including DICK TRACY and SCROOGED).

She's also the first woman to get her own solo credit as composer of a major Hollywood motion picture (that being MEMOIRS OF AN INVISIBLE WOMAN).
