View Full Version : Beast Getting a Push?
Young Avenger

I'm starting to notice that Beast is making a lot more appearances out outside of X-books. He's going to be a supporting character in Wonder Man's mini, He's involved in current story arc in Ms. Marvel and he helped out Spidey in FNSM. I'm liking how Beast is being used in these titles. I hope he continues to have a presense outside of the X-books.

Yes, I've noticed this as well a while ago. I even was going to start a thread about it. But yes, he's getting a lot of appearances outside the X-Books again. He was the main character in the 'What If? Avengers Disassembled'. And Mike Carey is going to do a 'Mythos: Beast' One-Shot. A lot of people believe it's gearing up for his return to the avengers next year as a member of the Mighty Avengers alongside Ms. Marvel and Wonder Man.

While I like the Beast, what I'd like even more is to stop seeing him as a supporting character/comic relief guy, and see Hank in a solo role. I don't think a Beast solo series has ever been done ( I recall one in the 90's that was based aroung New Mutants guest star Karma ), but I'd love to see one handled correctly.
And by correctly, I don't mean " Hank fights super-villains ", " Hank guest stars with established heroes and fights super-villains ", and definitely not " Hank loses his cat form and becomes an ape-man again ". I mean something that really deals with the character, his role in the world as scientist and public figure, and his de-volving condition. Even ignoring the X-Men, a story about a brilliant mind in an increasingly animalistic body could be great.

Yeah, Hank is appearing a lot lately. And that's great, even though he's not on big roles usually.

Makes me happy. I'm glad to see Hank get some spotlight.
Also, right now I'm sorta on the fence regarding Mighty Avengers, but if Beast joins I'll definitely pick it up.:)

Exactly. It would certainly have me turning over my $3.00 a month. :)

I'd prefer not to have him leaving the X-Titles, if I'm honest, but rather see him being given more page time and work in the core titles. While he's obviously been an important character in Astonishing it's laughable release staggering hasn't really done him many favours.
And the sooner the stupid pussy cat power is gone, the better.

What your saying makes no sense.
Are you saying Cat Beast is stupid?
You couldn't be saying that because Cat Beast rocks.

It is a ridiculous concept. He got the name beast because of his enlarged ape like limbs, which provided Hank with a greater ability to climb, bound, and hang with said limbs, like an ape would. That was his mutation.
'Cat-Beast' has sacrificed large parts of that just to try and better the name 'beast'. But his cat form takes away large parts of the agility, climbing ability, and frankly hasn't really added a fat lot to his character.
It's the same with all of Morrison's secondary mutations - most added to dig himself out of a writing hole, rather than sort out the character.
You may think it rocks, but you are in a minority.

Mike Carey sure loves him:
don’t worry, I’ll find excuses to bring Beast and company in. In fact Beast gets quite a big scene in #194. I’m shameless about this stuff.

I'm really torn and on the fence on this subject. On one hand if Carey get's ahold of him, I would want him to stay in the mutants, on the other, I'm really excited for him to become an Avenger again. What's a girl to do?

I'm glad Mike Carey loves him. Seeing the character get something to do other than stand around and make the occassional quip is nice. Yes, I am not a fan of Whedon's Hank.

Ah but as in much of recorded history the minority is right.

I'm in two minds...
I like to see Beast join the team in X-Men, because i loove the way Mike Carey writes him. It's way better than Whedon writes him in AXM.
However i'd also like to see Beast appear in Mighty Avengers along with Wonder Man and Ms Marvel...
I'm torn... I dunno which i'd prefer.

I think Beast is getting a push-up bra. His secondary mutation made his boobs a bit saggy.

Well, since his stupid cat mutation has pretty much eliminated any usefulness outside a laboratory, the suit could help him.

How so? He's fast, flexible, super-strong, with sharp claws and teeth, and he can pounce and leap.

Unless you have a push-up bra.

Actually, his secondary mutation gave him also heightened senses and increase his strength a lot, i think he's a class 40 now. He's more useful in the field that he used to be.

And I had the feeling Rogue got a major push, appearing in New x-Men as caretaker of mama Guthrie and in Ms. Marvel

All I can say is since he became a cat, all I've seen him do is bite Logan.

Not according to Marvel's handbooks.

What is his class now? Anyway, he still has heightened senses and a healing factor, he's not less useful than he used to be. And i do think he's strenght was enhanced for the secondary mutation too.
