View Full Version : I think I can explain...(For Tomorrow and Action 845 spoilers)

At the end of Action 845, we're introduced to the Phantom Zone villains-Zod, Ursa, and Non.

However, a year and a half ago, we're introduced to another Zod-an older Kryptonian, who ended up in the Phantom Zone paradise Superman made.

Now, one would find it odd that DC would off-handedly toss out an idea so quickly, but I think I have an explanation. Notice the similarities between the Zod we've just met, and the Zod we're told commanded the crystal ship Luthor took for a joy ride in "Up, Up and Away".

We're told the ship belonged to Dru-Zod, the leader of the Kryptonian navy, and was lost on Earth.

What if the Zod who was exiled by Jor-El and the Zod who we've just met are separate people?

What if Zod isn't the full name of the General Zod we've just encountered, but the family name-as he's from the House of Zod, as Superman's from the house of El?

That would explain some things. I hope that's the route they'll take with this.

What if... nobody gave a flying rat's ass about the lame story Azzarello tried to pull off and completely ignores his fake Phantom Zone Zod from the fake Krypton, and this Zod is just the Zod? I like that better.

I wouldn't mind being introduced to a House of Zod that's enemies with the House of El. You could find a way of working every single Zod into it, if you tried hard enough.

Seconded. Forget saying these dudes are from Earth 24.7B that just came back into the DCU after a 20-year coffee break and just get on with telling good stories.

Amen. Good hell I'm tired of the reboots and pointless continuity revisions.

I think the previous Zods should only be mentioned if it makes the story better or more entertaining in some way. Otherwise, what's the point? The whole purpose of Infinite Crisis was to give creators to ability to ignore stories that didn't work. Zod is one of the biggest examples I can think of.

I'm sure the dozen or so odd fanboys who'll be so outraged that the previous failed Zods aren't mentioned again won't be missed if they decide to drop the book over something so silly.

I don't really mind the house of Zod idea. But if it means Bill-Zod, Mike-Zod, Billy Bob-Zod, then it'd be horrible.

Beware the wrath of Shlomo Zod!

Fourthed. Twas a dire story and I see no reason to ever reference it again. Except maybe to explain it was just a horrible nightmare.

I think too many of you are thinking about this with their "adult mind".

When I was a kid, continuity was great- it was the reason I bought practically every Marvel comic, and constantly scoured back issue bins for more "history lessons". Continuity was and is fun. Heck, Marvel even gave out "No-Prizes" for fixing their mistakes (do they still do that?)

I know I wasn't alone, I think most kids liked continuity, and I bet the (unfortunately) few still reading comics do too. So I think the books should stay "all-ages" and keep that fun sense of a consistent, imaginary world going, even if the readers have to put it together themselves sometimes. Just saying "bah, ignore it" may be fine for your adult mind, but I think your inner child who wants to believe in that imaginary world would disagree.

I don't think it has anything to do with age or maturity of mind. I think it has more to do with personal preference in enjoying a story. For some people, continuity is a fun little jigsaw puzzle, and being given new things to plug into existing continuity is a real trip. For others, they'd rather enjoy a story for its face value over its place in the grand scheme.

I agree with Jack Zodiac that the continuity thing is all about personal preference, but I also think that if John's or Donner just put in as an aside a short explanation about Zod's reappearence. I dont think it should change this story, but it could set up future stories. I guess what I'm saying is that I really don't care how or if they explain it as long as it doesnt effect this current story.
