I really do like it better when the focus is on the Uncanny team and not elsewhere and it seems from the previews that Brubaker might be doing something interesting with Alex and Lorna. Hopefully it's something worthwhile for them because I've been dying for them to get some screen time.

For those Alex/Lorna fans...if you look closely...Alex has his arm around her and it's not her shoulder like some friends might do.

OH GLORIOUS DAY!!! :D :D :D
Best. Preview. Ever.
Has Brubaker finally listened to my pleas? Finally, we're seeing more Alex/Lorna amazingness. His arms around her....... and then her head resting on his chest! SOOOO cute. I hope the rest of the issue has some more moments like this one.
And speaking about the rest of the preview- what a great introduction! Lilandra got owned! I'm anxious to see what Akrai is up to. This storyline is getting stronger and stronger, and the art keeps getting better and better. Color me happy today!!
Alex & Lorna............ yay!!!

Least your happy. If only it was Scott/Jean. Anyway you know D'Ken has to be coming back. Akrai is setting up a coup and getting rid of Lilandra. Xavier to save the day? Save the woman he loves? This arc is really going to be getting good now.

Love those panels!!!! & Alex is looking pretty damn fine...for a drawing.

The one thing I DON'T like about this is that my fears about how Brubaker is writing Nightcrawler are coming true. He made Nightcrawler field leader and has since then proceeded to use him as a wallflower. Here people are walking all over him, interrupting him in mid-speech and starting fights in front of him. Did he miss the memo that Kurt got a spine? Claremont got it, Ellis got it, even Casey got it. Is it in vogue right now to destroy Kurt's character?
And what kind of team is this if they don't have any respect for the guy who supposedly leads them?? How are people that bicker like school children going to save the universe?
Focus on long-neglected characters is all fine and well, but it shouldn't be at the expense of beloved characters that have been there from the start. And Kurt never got much chance to shine outside of Excalibur anyway. I was hoping Bru would see his worth, but it's becoming increasingly apparent that he is once again going to have to stand aside for characters who can blast stuff. And as long as Kurt remains with the X-men, that's likely how it's going to be.

Who said that Kurt is the field leader? For me, it was clear from the beginning it was Alex, not him.
Bru has said it himself in interviews. And other hints: in #476, he had to make Alex and Warpath stop bickering during a mission. (Alex being all: "he started it!" doesn't strike me as field leader behavior). And in #479, Alex turned to Kurt for advice on what to do when fighting Korvus. This also indicates that it's Kurt. And logically, it makes sense. It's preferable that the leader does not have direct ties to the enemy they're set out to stop. Add to that that Kurt is very level-headed and has experience with space travel. Right now he is being written without much confidence, though, and that's a shame, not to mention unnecessary.
And see, this is just it - there shouldn't even be a doubt as to who the field leader is, that's what's so screwed up about this. Is Bru deliberately making the X-men come off as idiots? Had they kept the Shi'ar prisoners under lock and key, Xavier wouldn't have been gone now. These are intelligent people with years of combat experience behind them, but they don't act like it.
I would assume that...until you read the summary for the issue.
Well they might need a stargate to get close to them...

You better not be talking about Alex and Lorna!! I'd would be so incredibly upset if one of them died, especially if they're just getting back together. That would be incredibly lame. If that happened I think I might give up on comics all together.
But seriously, I think if anyone is going to die, it's going to be Xavier or Vulcan.
Really, why do writers feel the need to kill off heroes in the first place? (*coughNew X-mencough*) I find it very irritating.

What happened with Cassandra Nova might have made even Lilandra's biggest supporters turn against her. The Shi'ar Empire went from a conquering empire under D'Ken to being nearly wiped out.
Araki and K'Tor's conversation suggests their manipulating all of this, and had Vulcan free Deathbird so it wouldn't look like they were behind it. I think this is leading to the massacre of the Greys being part of this coup plot, to send either the X-Men or surviving Grey(s) to seek revenge. I wonder if they did miss Cable on purpose? If they did know about him and didn't go after him hoping he'd be the one wanting to take out Lilandra and the Shi'ar.
I wish Kurt would have the opportunity step up as the leader. Every time he's had the chance to be a team leader, he's always been rather quickly replaced (he was team leader for a short time after Storm lost her powers, and then in Excalibur while Capt. Britain was trapped in the timestream.

Reposting as a reminder of what we've been told...
Trevor -- Uncanny X-Men is said to be getting another, as of yet unnamed member, can you let the fans in on who that character is?
Mike Marts -- I’ll do you one better Trevor. Out of these sixteen characters atleast one of them will die, two of them will get married, two characters will quit one team to join another, and one of them will be the “unnamed” Uncanny member.
Corsair , Cyclops , Darwin , Deathbird, Gambit, Havok, Hepzibah, Lilandra, Petra, Polaris, Pyro, Cecelia Reyes, Sunspot, Sway, Vulcan, Warpath.

If at least one will die, Petra and Sway are already dead. So, no one else would have to die to make that Marts said true.

Havok and Polaris went from X-men to Uncanny. Gambit went from X-men to Horsemen.
Darwin joined Uncanny.
The only unresolved issue is the marriage, for which I see three candidates:
Havok+Polaris
Vulcan+Deathbird
Corsair+Hepzibah

Me too. He's not such an important and popular character than the X-men can't live without, but his death would have a huge impact on several X-men, and the impact can lead Vulcan to redemption or complete insanity, specially if he's the one who causes it.

The cover to Uncanny 483 makes them seem couply, but that might not actually happen.
I still don't understand why Vulcan would help anyone wanting to restore the Shi'ar to what it was before Lilandra, when he originally set out to destroy it - unless he's been completely manipulated and lied to (and he's extremely gullable and naive). Or, Deathbird seduces him and he thinks he's doing it out of love.

Its Havok cleary in this title now. Who is flying the ship , calming down Warpath and being told by Korvaks what can be done to save Xavier ? Its not Nightcrawler , its Havok. My bet on the death its one of the 3 I list.
Also I hope n pray we see Alex survive and be the leader Austen had him as. Not the fool he became under Peter Milligan.
1. Nightcrawler: Hasn't done much since Austen's run. Plus TJ exists in the 616 so it makes Kurt a liability.
2. Havok: They have Vulcan and Cyclops now. Unless Brubaker is giving us last looks at Alex Summers leadership qualities to kill him off in a grand fashion , I could see Vulcan emerging as the new Summers brother to lead a X-Team.
3. Polaris: This is my pick. Has been boring since Milligan made her go sane again. She could have been saved when she had an edge but now she's back to boring , crying ect ect.

Well, Kurt was flying the ship in #479. Kurt was the one calming down both Warpath and Havok in #476. In #478, it's Kurt telling Xavier that bringing the Shi'ar is not a good idea. In #479, Havok looks to Kurt for advice on how to attack Korvus. Add to that that it's clearly stated in this interview (http://comicnewsi.com/article.php?catid=99&itemid=8663) and others that Professor X is the leader of the mission, but Nightcrawler is the team leader.
So, if an official change in leadership has occurred, it has occurred off-panel with no mention whatsoever so far.
1. Nightcrawler: Hasn't done much since Austen's run. Plus TJ exists in the 616 so it makes Kurt a liability.
Uhh...say what? Plus, Kurt was not even on Mike Marts' list of characters at risk.

After having killed how many people? After having been revealed to have the maturity of a 15-year old? I doubt it.

I've been enjoying Brubaker's Lorna infinitely more than Loony Lorna. Sure, she could use more screen time - but "kick him again" is the best line in Uncanny in quite some time!
I wouldn't mind seeing a non-insane "father was right" lorna, one with clear emotional ties to the x-men yet with her philosophy differing significantly enough to cause an eventual fallout. A reluctant tyrant in the making.
If not then i hope she shapes up quickly, the insecure "i'm afraid to use my powers" lorna doesn't do it for me.

Its not more page time she needs it is how the writers use that page time that matters. Polaris has no flair in these comics, she is almost a non-existant character.

I think the characterization is lacking overall. This group feels like they hardly know, or simply don't care about each other. You would think they would be more close-knitted after all these weeks in space, but the mood is just...cold, somehow. Bru has attempted some moments of characterization, but it's just been too little and not very deep. It could also be the fact that Tan isn't very good at making the characters come to life. I feel like I'm reading a Kraftwerk video.

Although I prefer his traditional one (all black with that weird thing going on in his head) I'm very fond of this new one.

A bit boring though, the fact the Starjammers are still the same 4 members as they have always been with sidekick Cr+++. Also still looking the same as alwways, yawn...
That team could use a good make over!

before the new creative teams the only X-book I read was Astonishing, but this has become my favorite. I love the depth Bru is putting into the charecters already, my only complaint are the Vulcan solos, I wish they had selected a better artist. These tend to be jarring from the regular team issues, Billy Tan reminds me alot of David Finch, some of the most dramatic art in comics.
That cover with the Starjammers is fantastic

But of course! http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j182/Michael_P_Darkling/Uncanny_Page_Billy_Tan.jpg
The table of contents doesn't say which issue its from, but the Starjammers werent mentioned in 481 so I'm guessing its 482 or beyond.
Cool cover!! I can't wait for that issue.

I like them just the way they are as well.

Id love to see a book really go into the relationships of the Starjammers.
My pitch.
Corsair: Famous space pirate. He's all bravado but its basically a front. In truth he's scared. He went through a traumatic experience and ran away from his old life because he couldnt handle it anymore. He's known about his sons for years now but the idea of actually having to face what happened is too much for him.
Hepzibah: A total vixen but shes also really insecure and is very aware that shes always going to be in the shadow of Katherine Summers. Corsairs been her partner for years but refuses to commit to her. Theres also a drug metaphor between them...with her wondering whether Christophers just with her because of her pheremone abbilities.
Cho'd: He's a large dumb dolt. But of course theres a darkness behind him as well...hes the sole survivor of his race, he has no family. The Starjammers are his substitute and therefore he's fiercly protective.
Raza- Once again not sure where he stands...He's not quite human...hes half machine so he tried to relate to both...but perhaps feels part of neither. Ironic that the most poetic of the four could essentially be just a mechanism.

I would assume that...until you read the summary for the issue.
But if all he's referring to is Havok's connection to Corsair, what does Polaris have to do with it? Incidentally, I'd love to see Corsair's reaction to Alex and Lorna being so close again, given that the last time he saw them Alex ditched her and she tried to murder him.

That would be funny.
And has anyone told Corsair about Emma, Jean, the Phoenix Force, etc, etc. I would like to see his reaction.

I'd love it for if after this arc Vulcan is still out there, but now he's in control of the Shi'ar Empire w/ Deathbird. The remaining X-Men leave and Havok and Polaris stay behind to stop them. Cyclops hears about the mission and leaves Earth to help them.

And then Beast, Iceman, Warren, and a recently revived Jean go out and help them, too! Sounds like my kind of book. And by mine, I mean your.

Im not necessarily a good writer...i think my strengths are generally in plotting...i could outline the story if you liked but a whole fanfic is a bit beyond me.

Great ideas ZNS. I'd really like to see a story like that.
I would like to read a plot outline.

Maybe his Cho'd is located somewhere else on him...thereby not making it what WE know a cho'd to be. Maybe his cho'd's called a BLVXTHR.
