I was wondering. do you think it's possible to be a great actress & a singer
at the same time. And which female actress/singer do you think has the best
acting AND singing talent?

I started thinking about this after I found out that Jennifer Landon
(daughter of Michael Landon of 'Highway to Heaven', 'Little House on the
Prairie', & 'Bonanza' fame) who followed her dad's acting career and really
did well in the daytime soap AWS (As the World Turns) went on to launch a
singing career. I believe she only has 1 song out right now, called Slide,
but it's really good. You can check it on iTunes if you like.

Any thoughts?"

Angela Bassett sounded pretty good in What's Love Got To Do With It?

Sara Rue has a lovely singing voice, as seen in Gypsy 83.

Amber Benson wowed Buffy fans when she sang in the "Once More With Feeling" episode.

Start with Julie Andrews,Chita Rivera, and Liza Minelli (I think they all won a Tony,a Grammy and an Emmy.) Not to mention an Oscar while in a musical! (My memory might be off on the second fact)

Maggie Gylenhaal is quite good at both.

Megan Mullally is great at both, just NOT hosting a talk-show!

Betty Buckley, who went from 8 is Enough to Cats!

The late Mary Martin.

Julie Andrews prior to surgery, when she still had her wonderful, multi-octave voice.

Angela Landsbury has lost her voice; but once upon a time...

Carol Burnett, who was so wonderful in the original Broadway cast of Once Upon a Matress.

Linda Lavin, who began her career as "Sidney" in It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman!, and was back on Broadway, not too long ago in the Tale of the Allergist's Wife.

Actually, that wasn't Audrey Hepburn singing. She was dubbed by Marni Nixon, who also did the singing for Natalie Wood in West Side Story and Deborah Kerr in The King and I.

Actually the actress who has the Oscar a Emmy a Grammy and a Tony is Rita Moreno.

As good as they are the others haven't matched this feat.

Doh! How could I forget Rita, aka "Sister Pete!" I think she's won an Obie and or a Clio too! She's got to do an indie film, so she can win a Spirit, because I think that's about all that's left!

Yes, cheers to Rita Moreno, Julie Andrews, Eartha Kitt, Linda Lavin, Angela Lansbury, Doris Day, Carol Burnett, and Betty Buckley! I went for the "surprises", rather than the ladies with reputations established by their vocal lalents. Still, they undeniably deserve the esteem for their work! :)

Oh yeah...Lucy Lawless!

Billie Piper. Great as Rose Tyler, and while her music phase was quite bubble-gum poppy, I admit a guilty pleasure toward Day and Night (both in song and video).

Kristin Chenoweth. I think she does more broadway than TV/film, so I guess it's to be expected.

"Great" would be a stretch, but Deborah Harry is not too shabby. Her performances in Videodrome and Tales from the Darks Side: the Movie were very watchable.

Her role in Videodrome was pretty damn good. Tales from the Darkside: The Movie was just funny, 'cause she's acting all sweet and homely. . . . as she's preparing to cook a small child!!:D

I'm not really a fan, but the first people I thought of were Cher & Bette Midler.

For the record that was Tina Turner singing in "What's Love Got To Do With It" not Angela Basset ( But Angela that good of an actress that she fooled a lot of people :)

My pick is Diana Ross, Go pick up the movie "Lady Sing's The Blues" ( Movie about Billie Holiday ) she played that part and sang those songs so well that you forget that she looks and sings nothing like Holiday. She should have got an Oscar for that role.
