WOWWWW~~~

Totally synchro!!
i had thought of Betsy returning with her butterfly effect.... as WINGS!!! (if she is to keep her telekinesis)
and i also envisioned her back being a blonde, but with chunky purple streaks or have her roots be blonde & her ends purple!!!!!!!~~!!!

And that last costume is awesome!!
Very Psylocke, very X-Men, & a bit Captain Britain as well.

Quit imagining and do it. You can get some books for a few tips, but it's mostly going to take pratice. Start with a favorite character and go for it. you may not be churning out masterpices right off the bat, but everyone has to start soemwhere.

"Muchly"?!?
Indeed. And here I thought I was isolated in using the word - but a quick search on CBR found it used a lot all over. It sounds very much like a Buffyism that's seeped into the collective consciousness, although I can't prove they started it. It did show up in an ep a few years back:

XANDER: It's just a temp gig, Buff. You know, unless it tanks. Since you're not union, I had to call in a few favors to get you on a crew.
BUFFY: Well, I appreciate it. Muchly. You saved me from having to accept Giles' offer to work at the Magic Box. I mean, retail? Yeee. (shudders) I'd rather be dead. Again.

I hate to burst your Buffy bubble, bakla, but I actually got it from my mom- who has been saying it since I was a wee lad. Which predates Buffy by a good long while.

The first time I remember seeing it in print was when Delerium said it in an issue of Sandman. I think she said "It hurts very muchly."

Thus, the origin of Chad saying muchly.

The one Buffyism I do use ona regular basis is "Fire bad. Tree pretty." which is my all-time favorite Buffy line.

Huzzah!

Yeah I wasn't sure it was a Buffyism tried and true - hence my saying I assumed it was but couldn't prove it. I couldn't pinpoint the origin and it certainly sounded very Whedonesque, hence the googling of the quote.

And Fury, I've been trying to rethink Dazzler for the aughts for weeks now (I've redesigned her in previous years dating back to the Outback days but no longer like those outfits). Can't come up with something I feel is true to her character and very au courant as well. Ah well, not like there's any rush. :)

Holy crap, Smile! That Betsy could eat me alive! So sexy, I love it!

Since you're looking for critique, I'd like to ask about the way you did her hips and thighs. To me, they don't look like Betsy's usual figure, but they do look more real, since she would probably have thicker thighs than she's usually shown with in the comics, being, you know, a warrior in prime shape. What was your process with that?

Mainly I'm looking for pointers, cuz I'm horrible at figure drawing. :p

Thanks guys. I have always drawn very curvy women, with powerful legs too, I think legs are one of the sexiest things on a woman, and that usually translates to my art. So my take on Psylocke is probably a little more curvy and stuff than the traditional rendering of her, but I think it makes more sense, if she is a ninja warrior, and she is capable of taking on men twice her size, then she has to have some serious muscle to be able to do that, but I still wanted her to look sexy and feminine. I guess that's what I was trying to go for in this peice. Does that make sense or am I just rambling lol?

smilemadeofsun
07-20-2005, 12:15 PM
Oh and also, I took a picture of my arms holding a sword to get the right perspective and basic positioning of her arms holding the sword, but most of it I just did from imagination/practice, I hope that helps.

#11 in a series- This time i used Kate Beckinsale as a reference. I figured since the costume is based more off of her first suit, that i should do british Psylocke instead of ninja Psylocke... but i kept the blade, 'cause it's fun to draw. :D The costume isn't mine this time, either- it's the design of l. Rey Arzeno, whose art can be found here. (http://arzeno.deviantart.com/)

I hope he doesn't mind that i used it! Because it's awesome..

Yeah if you are going to make out with Billy Bob Thorton you have to get an oscar. That should be a law. But since i doubt she has sensitivity in the rhinosauraus labia she had stuck on her face i bet it feels less dirty.

Psylocke has become Power Princess!

Seriously, though, this art style doesn't really work for me. That said, I only have three complaints. She somehow has a niche in her back, there is no outlined handle for the sword, and she has no right ankle. Some of those may be part of the style. Those are just my observations. But I like the coloring, especially that transparent effect of the psychic lightsaber.

On the whole I like it. kinda reminds me of Immonen.

My one critiscism would be that the top half seems too small for the bottom half. That ass is HUGE!

Maybe if you shrank the legs down a bit it would work better.

I do like it though. Nice work.

Thank you for your comment. The "niche in the back" and the "missing right ankle" are consequences of that particular style, but you're right, no style should completely destroy the anatomy, so I'll keep that in mind for the next drawing. The "no outlined handle" is different, though. There IS not handle. There is only a blade, and it isn't connected to her hand. That is not a matter of style, it's a question of visual design, and I totally understand if it doesn't work for you.

On the whole I like it. kinda reminds me of Immonen.

My one critiscism would be that the top half seems too small for the bottom half. That ass is HUGE!

Her legs are too long, but the length of female legs is always exaggerated in superheroes comics, and hers are not much longer than the industry standard. You're right though, there is something wrong with the anatomy. I was more interested in drawing a dynamic pose than in getting everything right.

Thank you for your comment!

Wow, some of you guys have draw some really great pictures of Psylocke. Here's my little drawing of British Betsy.

It came out a little too skinny for my tastes. Not sure how that happened lol. I'm just happy I was able to draw Psylocke in that costume. I remember I tried to draw it years ago and I wasn't able to...but somehow this time I was. So I'm happy with that.
