Most people are afraid of Batman in the comics.

My daughter's afraid of him in real life. (seriously - I had to bring my big Bruce Timm Batman bust to work because it freaks her out)

Just think if you were in a dark alley by yourself and he dropped from no where. I'd be a bit shaken up, but then I would ask myself why the hell I am in a dark alley all by my lonesome and what the hell is this guy in a batsuit doing here! Everything together would make for a pretty frightful night.
