I hadn't read this before, but looking through the synopsis in the link you provided me, it may not be so far off:

"In 1983, Frederick Pohl and Cyril Kornbluth wrote a science fiction novel in which great multi-national advertising companies have replaced government and most other social institutions. Advertising is the media and the media is advertising: the songs people hum on the streets are ad jingles. "News reports" are straight propaganda and sales messages, and few people stop to analyze them. Corporations take over the personal loyalties that used to go to churches, clubs, clans, or sports teams: most people graduate from school into a corporate job and stay with the same corporation until death. Corporate wars are passionate and very physical -- there may be shootouts on the company steps."

The world of REVVVelations isn't strictly as described, but not too far off. Corporate wars in our world aren't necessarily a subtle as "shootouts on the company steps", but that will likely be fleshed out more in a much, much later chapter beyond the CoorGen Regionals. Look for more about that during the Nationals.

Honestly, both of our influences on this story come from movies moreso. Jolyon was definitely inspired by Deathrace 2000. I was inspired by Mad Max and Cannonball Run. Someone on another message board said it really harkened of Max Headroom, which I actually agree with quite a bit... I think some of that subconsciously seeped into my writing, as I was a big Max Headroom fan back in the day.

Joe, I'm glad you'll be a part of the quickly-growing fanbase for this strip. I know that others will see it as derivative of other things, but I DO hope we bring a unique twist to it all. Jolyon came up with the concept having seen many of these movies, and I've been writing the script without the benefit of seeing Death Race 2000 or some of the other things you mentioned. I actually just borrowed the Death Race 2000 DVD from Jolyon and saw it last night -- hilarious! Oh, and I played Car Wars ONCE in high school.

Started on page 1 and went right on through to the last one. I really like this, and I like where it's going. And despite what Essie used to be, yeah, I'd hit that.

At what point did you decide to collect The Wang: Who's Your Daddy in GN form? Did you always intend to do it that way, or did you see the opportunity and take it?

I'm enjoying Revvvalations. It's really showing your growth as a writer, and Yates' pencils are quite complementary to this story. I particularly liked the sign on page 46: "Trespassers will be eten."

Why did it end up the way it did on the page, with tresspassers being split up, and eten being misspelled? Was it by accident or to show how intellectually impaired certain parts of that culture might be?

I'm really glad you're enjoying it! This is definitely a challenge for me, as this is the first time that I've attempted to write an action/adventure.

As far as "The Wang: Who's Your Daddy?" is concerned, it was always going to be a GN. I started off with serializing the ashcans for "The Wang: The BIG One" and noticed that folks that were buying the first issue at conventions were coming back to buy all of the rest, so initially in talking with Diamond, I was going to serialize it. But, after getting printing quotes and having my brand manager tell me that they would only carry the TPB and not the individual issues, I decided to go straight to the GN with Quebecor. So, when it came to work on the sequel, I didn't even consider the pamphlet installments.

"Tress passers Will Be Eten" - Jolyon gets credit for that one. He's brilliant with that stuff. I'm always impressed with how he interprets my script and the little details he chooses to include. Where he comes up with this stuff? Who knows, but this project is his little brainchild, so he knows where he originally wanted this to go. I just had the pleasure of taking his concept and developing a script out of it. Although, showing how intellectually impaired MOST of culture might be was definitely something we were trying to show throughout the story.

Yes, Essie IS quite a hottie. Spread the gospel, brother!
