I learned some interesting things today about Mandarin. I didn't know that he clashed with the Inhumans, and I was very surprised to find that he was involved with Erik Killmonger's attempted coup in Wakanda.

I actually own the Mephisto story that was used for his image. That's the first time that's happened.

Who was the Avenger that died? Just curious.

If I recall correctly, it was Mockingbird. They saved her from Mephisto's realm, but she died as they escaped.

Ah, the Soviet Super Soldiers/People's Protectorate. They made such a great cold war counterpoint to the Avengers!

Who/what was Fantasma?

Wonderman at 49? Say whu?
Magneto surprisingly low..

No big surprises so far though.

Monday Morning Quarterback Time.

Given the low # of votes these guys have gotten so far, maybe a Top 25 would have been a better idea, without the options for the seperate Masters of Evil/ Lethal Legion/ Zodiac Gang teams (which have surely split those votes.)

What in the hey?! Most of the new entries are heroes predominantly. ODD.

Many Avengers started out as villains, and some of them fought the Avengers before joining. Plus, the Avengers seem to lack a proper rogues gallery, outside of Ultron and Kang/Immortus. I consider Magneto and the Sentinels to be X-Men foes, but here they are on the Avengers top 50.

With the votes for some of the Avengers themselves, there was at least one poster who clearly was just voting for as many Avengers as he could.

IMO, from the #32 slot and below is where Avengers villains stop being really lame. Like I said before one can see that after breaking the top 10-20 it just goes from middleground to pretty sad.

Absorbing Man doesn't even crack the top twenty? What's that about?

Like many Avengers foes, he only fought them in two different stories, unless you want to count Earth X, which is not official continuity.

But what about his Masters of Evil stuff? Surely that at least doubles that figure. I see what you're saying, but he's just such a good villain...

As part of Zemo's Masters of Evil that lay siege to Avengers Mansion.
In that storyline that interrupted Busiek's run that took place on Polemachus.
And then during Austen's arc that created the new Captain Britain.

Regardless, I don't personally consider them major Avengers villains.

Oops, I forgot about those last two you mentioned. I was thinking of the Masters of Evil arc and that two-parter #183-184.

Which makes four...I guess they're a little more major than I give them credit for.

Heh. I gave Maelstrom my #1 pick...so aside from me, only one other person voted for him at all? Heh heh heh...

Maelstrom had potential, but his appearance was unimpressive, especially with that peculiar helmet that he wore. Did he even fight the Avengers more than once? I suppose that fight with the Great Lakes Avengers counts, too.

Edit: Nevermind, you meant the Wrecking crew

Ahh well...one ball and chain is just as good as the next one.

Was it all of the Wrecking Crew in Austen's run or just Thunderball?

I remember Thunderball being MIA (replaced by Le Fay's Dark Knight) but Piledriver, Wrecker and Bulldozer were the real deal.

Hah! I get what you mean though.

What's funny is I've never ever heard of him until I saw his appearance in the GLA issues. I think he needs a costume overhaul and some sort of team.

The Hand actually got votes. I'm suprised.Likewise. I like the Hand for what they are. They make great street-level or martial arts villains. They even worked for me in the Ronin storyline. But not anywhere near my radar for favorite Avengers villains.

I'm kinda surprised the original Masters of Evil rated so low. But then again I suppose I kinda associate them with all the incarnations that came afterwards, too. And I suppose there are other foes that may well surpass them that have risen to prominence in later years (or were big threats both back in the day and in the present, like Kang).

Looking at the Loki entry and seeing him break the top 10, how many times has he clashed with the Avengers? I know there's that first Avengers issue pre-Cap and the West Coast issue seen on the cover there but I haven't even read any of his clashes with them oddly enough.

There was also the Avengers-Defenders War and more recently when Cap and Iron Man travelled to Asgard to help during Ragnarok.

He was the villain in some annual I think, during the 90s. Weringo pencilled. Erm.. he tricked Jarvis into recalling all the Avenger's enemies so he could unleash some sort of darkness. They metled an adamntium -( I know.. wtf?) statue onto him.

So the list is up and complete and I must say, not bad at all.

My list had pretty much the top 3 or 4 which was:

1) Ultron
2) Kang
3) Masters of Evil IV (Baron Zemo, Goliath, Screaming Mimi, Moonstone, Mr. Hyde, Yellowjacket, Wrecker, Bulldozer, Thunderball, Piledriver, Blackout, Tigershark, Absorbing Man, Titania)
4) Count Nefaria
5) Supreme Intelligence
6) Super-Adaptoid
7) Korvac
8) Brotherhood of Evil Mutants / Freedom Force
9) Morgan Le Fay
10) Collective (Xorn)
11) Presence
12) Ronan the Accuser
13) Wrecking Crew (Wrecker, Piledriver, Thunderball, Bulldozer)
14) Thanos
15) Magneto
16) Kree
17) Skrulls
18) Onslaught
19) Bloodwraith
20) U-Foes (X-Ray, Vector, Vapor, Iron Clad)

I had left out Taskmaster and Loki but I felt more bad about leaving out Tasky so I'll add him in a more revised list. Loki hadn't really made a huge impression on me Avengers wise so he didn't make my list but I guess he should be there anyway.
