While I still have it locked on my DVR, I will still try and watch it "live" again if for no other reason than to be part of the great cosmic gathering with my fellow fans across the world (uh...what? It only plays in the US and at different times?). Ok - for that and to help keep the ratings high.

This time I'll have my VCR prepared - I still berate myself for forgetting to set it the first time I watched it. In short word, great job, Tad. I'm trying to get my fellow comic fans to watch this when it airs. As well, I'm looking forward to Blood and Iron.

Man, that show was really inaccurate, which is unfortunate since a lot of Hellboy stories draw heavily from folklore and Mignola ordinarily does pretty good research.
Yeah, the inaccuracies bug my daughter too but on the other hand I found wildly varying accounts for the creatures and stories we used. It can't be helped when your plumbing mythology that changed over hundreds of years. The next movie,Blood and Iron, centers on folklore and myth much more familiar to Hellboy fans.
As to the rebroadcast, don't feel bad if you can't watch it "live." The commercial placement really hurts, especially the backstory myth. Well, that's what DVDs are for. ;)

I'm watching this now and I wish I hadn't. I don't like the art style at all. Not much of an intro either, seems like a poor action movie. Are we sure Mike Mignola actually oversaw this project?
Yep.
Go to the archives of Hellboy Animated (http://hellboyanimated.typepad.com) and look at the first posts. I at least hope you enjoyed "Heads."
The short intro was intentional. It's the bare basics that will be repeated in each movie. The next one is much darker.
All the better to suit your Black Heart!! ;)

I for one, watched it again and LOVED it again, Tad. Too many people get lost in the minutia and detail too appreciate what this is...a (somewhat) divergent take on a great character...I refused to let anything deter me from enjoying a great animated movie, and I will buy it on DVD when it comes...and my four year-old son PJ loved and stayed up late to watch it with me...in fact he was the one watching it (I had forgotten) and said,"Daddy, do you wanna watch this with me ?"....I looked over and saw Abe...and I plunked and watched till the end again.
No fears, my friend...his has a legitmate place in the realm of those who love Hellboy for what it is...a fun character !

I loved it. Especially the floating heads, just like the comic. And the lovecraftian sea-dragon was stellar. Since Liz failed to kill it do you think it might return in a later (installment?)? Can't wait for Blood and Iron. Oh, and will they sell the DVDs in Wal-Mart? I have no other place to buy it at. Small towns have their charms, unless your a 19 year old college kid, in which case small towns are some sort of horrid torture device.
Walmart will be carrying it along with the Hellboy Animated comic. I'm pleased you liked it.

No cable television so I didn't catch it either time but the DVD is on preorder thanks to a swell giftcard Christmas present.

Not sure where else to ask this. Will either Roger or Johann be in the next one?
Nope. But Johann's in the live action Hellboy 2 (and Roger will be in a tube in the hallway at the BPRD).

Honestly, I don't see why people have to rag on the art style. (Then again, you're talking to someone who's a bleeding-heart defender of 'The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker', so make of that what you will) Sure, Sean Galloway's style isn't to everyone's taste, but eh... I felt it worked. So yeah, I'll def. be picking this up on DVD if/when I have the cash that month.
Anyhow, I browbeat my friends into watching this and... only one did. (The rest were too busy RPing some lameass animu RPG thing that night, go figure) I *think* she liked it... but I didn't quite get what her exact opinion of it was.
Blah! They're all more interested for 'Blood and Iron' anyways.

People have been ragging a bit on the art, but people have been ragging on the artwork for the Hellboy comics too. I don't care too much for the animation, but then it's never stopped me from watching Daffy Duck now has it?

I finally got around to watching Sword of Storms over the weekend. What's with all the bitching about the animation? I kind of liked it. Liked the story as well. Heck, that was a no brainer as I tend to like anything Japan related.
Anyways, this went from a watch and delete from my TiVo to a most likely DVD buy for me. Good job Tad! Watched the trailer for Blood & Iron over the weekend and can't wait for that as well now. Keep up the good work and I'll keep my fingers crossed that there will be a third animated feature.

I don't have cable so I downloaded it off of bittorrent (sorry tad, but I'll probably buy the dvd if that makes you feel any better...)
I was unsure of it at first. But Ron did some excellent voice work. The heads story was a great touch. I was a little bored with the whole sword storyline to be honest. I don't have a huge interest in asian myth but that's just me. The animation was fine for me. It is what it is: a cartoon designed for a slightly younger audience. I would have enjoyed a bit more of a Mignola influence. All I really saw of it were the zombies at the beginning. I think it could have used more, perhaps in the backgrounds or something. Hellboy with eyebrows was kind of odd but it helps to express his emotions. I got used to it quick. I personally didn't care a great deal for this particular story but seeing as this won't be the only one in the series I'm not too upset. It's an acceptable first installment and the voice work was excellent. I really like Kate so it was great to see her too.
I'm looking forward to the next one!
