Joss Whedon Talks Buffy "season 8"

I love Joss Whedon's writing. I love Buffy. I love the thought of Joss writing Buffy.

It's like a 3 some (with Buffy I might add!) and I'm in heaven!

Now if only he'd return to Firefly/Serenity.

I've heard lots of rumors about Joss writing at least one other Firefly-based mini for Dark Horse, though I'd like to see it become a reality. I mean, hey, at least Buffy had seven seasons before this new comic "season"!

Oh well, the Jo Chen covers should be lovely, anyway.

I'd kill for more Firefly stuff. I love the characters, the ships, the universe... it's (IMO) one of the best (if short lived) sci-fi TV shows ever.

The tv seasons took place in real time. So is Buffy Season 8 designed to run alongside Angel season 5, when they ran Wolfram & Hart, or does it take place today, three years after the Buffy series finale?

From what I've read, season 8 will be taking place three months after season 7 ended, so then yeah, it'll be running concurrent with Angel season 5. I also read a preview of the first five pages on Dark Horse's website, and they immediately fix the little thing where Buffy is living in Rome with the immortal.

GEEKMONTHLY.COM: When we’d come back from a summer hiatus, usually real time had passed on the show.

JOSS: Every time.

GEEKMONTHLY.COM: So how much time has passed between the end of the show and the comic?

JOSS: Comic book time.

GEEKMONTHLY.COM: Which means what?

JOSS: A vague amount of time, probably more than a year. Ultimately with comics, they don’t come out every week but every month. Whereas in show where every week it was something that would happen to you, a mystical version thereof, the comic book is going to be a little more sprawling with a lot of storylines going on and so you have to sort of fudge the numbers a little bit. You know, when will the rest of Reed Richards’ hair go gray? We don’t know. In fact, when I was talking to Marvel, I asked, “How long has Colossus been dead?” and they’re like, “Never say, because time doesn’t exist.” You could spend ten issues on something that happens in one night. So, like I said, it is about a year later or more. I make mention that Dawn supposed to be in college, so that means it would have to be at least a year and a half.
