I was in one of the few Comic related stores in my city the other day and saw an absolutely huge Hellboy...
Fairly sure I *need* one of those..

I saw one of those on ebay and thought it was a typo for the 8" figure...

Hmm, I didn't think this was going to happen, as I haven't seen any solicitation for it on Mezco's website. If it's out there then it's out there, but I wonder why Mezco didn't make any formal announcement?

It doesn't surprise me at all. They seem content to let others--comic shop owners, Diamond Previews--release all their information for them.

Maybe I'll buy this when it's on sale for 10 bucks in a year (like I did the other Hellboy). :)

Fair enough. Makes me kind of sad though...I understand the need to save, but buying these at full price is what will ensure we get an Abe Sapien to round out the 8" figures...

I don't understand why they left such a central character sit on the side lines, while other characters went into production first. Was it to keep everyone "collecting"?

I don't understand why they left such a central character sit on the side lines, while other characters went into production first. Was it to keep everyone "collecting"?Ordinarily, if the line were a surefire seller--like the various Marvel Legends lines--you try to spread the most popular characters out across waves. That way, you can get retailers to buy each wave while sneaking in smaller numbers of the more obscure characters for the diehard fans.
But Mezco has made what I think are some miscalculations. For instance, there was no indication whatsoever that the Goon line would be a good seller, and yet Mezco put in an utterly obscure character like Joey the Ball--who's never even shown up in the Dark Horse incarnation of The Goon--into the first line and skipped Buzzard. The line tanked and now we'll never get a Buzzard.
As for Hellboy, I think everyone was pretty happy with the first line. Lobster Johnson was a special request by Mignola, so I'm not going to complain about his inclusion. As for the second wave, I have to admit I think the Alien is a bizarre choice on the order of Joey the Ball. And now we're being told that the fate of the toy line hangs on the sales of the second wave, which is filled with relatively obscure characters, none of whom were in the movie, which is what most casual fans are most familiar with? It just seems like bad business. While as a fan, it's nice to have an obscure character like the Alien, I would have greatly preferred any of the characters in the proposed third series--Abe, the Ghost of Rasputin, the Frog Monster and Anung un Rama Hellboy--to the Alien.
There's also one other glaring issue--Mezco has never released a mass market trenchcoat version of Hellboy. That's the iconic version of Hellboy, yet your casual action figure collector won't even know they can get one unless they happen to check Internet toy sites! Trenchcoat HB was supposed to be in series 2, but Rocket Hellboy got subbed instead. I have no idea why.
So yeah, Mezco has made some odd decisions, and if it costs us Abe--who we should at least get as an exclusive--I'm going to be a pretty unhappy camper.

I hadn't thought of that, but now that you bring it up, that is a good question. Anyone know?

I hadn't thought of that, but now that you bring it up, that is a good question. Anyone know?I don't know if anyone does except Mez and his staff. Joranthalus, the Mezco forum moderator, might have some idea, or he might be able to ask Mez.
But I did an interview with Mez back in 2005 in which he told me the cloth-coat HB that served as the first exclusive would be part of the second wave. But it didn't happen. Maybe because they already had 1000 Figures.com exclusives that sold out, plus they decided to re-release the trenchcoat exclusive with the Japanese heads. It's not that you can't get a trenchcoat HB--you just can't get one at a retail store.
Kind of odd, though, since the trenchcoat HB in the first movie wave was the line's bestseller. Yeesh.

And Rocket pack Hellboy seems like it would be more of an exclusive type thing..
But the trench coat is the iconic version.
I, for one, was glad to see Lobster Johnson in the first wave :) but Abe would have probably sold better.

I bought the trenchcoat Hellboy from Mezco... it came with the swastika-forehead Von Klempt head, which was great, because I wanted neither the topless Hellboy nor Kriegaffe #10 but coveted the head.
And you CAN buy trenchcoat Hellboy in some specialty shops... I've seen the 'Heads' Hellboy in comic shops here in Calgary, retailing for between $40 - $50. Can you still buy it from the Mezco site? I honestly haven't checked in a long time.
And I really liked the Alien... probably the nicest figure of the second wave.

Here's a link to Mezco's site:

The mention the original 18" HB in 2 versions, but no mention of a 18" HB w/rocket, just the smaller one.
They do have a new 15" Kong figure coming for this Holiday season:

and oh look, they have Public Enemy and Notorious B.I.G. how exciting.

18 inch rocket Hellboy?!? This is one weird decision...
I think it was by far the weakest figure in second wave. Actually, I just opened mine some minutes ago. It looks really weak compared with the Hellboy from the first wave - less textures on similar details, plastic is more red, paint is sloppy, especially in hair, right hand looks like crab... My copy had mouth's black line ca millimeter too high, so it looked like Clark Cable's moustache. Fortunately my girlfriend has Pinky St. paint removal marker, so I was able to get rid of it. I can't imagine who would like to have 18" version of this figure... Real fabric coat is a very important part of the previous 18", I really don't think it will work without it. Especially with this really strange muscle-less right hand...
I'll attach the picture with my rocket Hellboy's "before and after" face, there's also segment with Roger's different length legs I was writing about in other thread.
