Hello all! I just thought I'd post a thread about some of the busts / statues that I've been talking about on the boards and the podcasts. I'll start off with a few links and images of some new items and I'll slowly post some other pics and info as I think of it.
Mostly I'm a collector of the Bowen Deisgns (http://bowendesigns.com/index.asp) pieces. By going to their "Behind the Scenes (http://bowendesigns.com/page_sub.asp?id=2)" page you can see images of statues and mini-busts that are being worked on. Can I tell you how psyched I am for these???
http://bowendesigns.com/images/pagecontent/DD%20trio2.JPG
Usually a few days after Marvel and DC post their on-line solicits that will appear in Previews BD also puts a few new items up for preorder. These are the new ones available, the FS (full size) one is over 2 years in the making. I'll certainly be getting both of the MB's (that's mini busts), but more than likely not the FS, as those are harder to find room for.

Since this just came out yesterday, I thought I'd share...
One fun thing to do as a collector is try and figure out what characters will be make next. Sometimes we know of ones that are being worked on and we get pics of them early on in development but then others show up as a complete surprise.
Yesterday Bowen Designs posted some sneak peeks at 2 MB's that we hadn't seen painted versions of, a new "web shooter" Spider-Man and Shaman from Alpha Flight:

Is this the same Randy Bowen that Bendis mentioned in Part 3 of the latest WordBalloon podcast would be moving his message board to jinxworld?
pmpknface
11-21-2006, 10:32 AM
Hhhhhhhhmmm......... maybe. I didn't listen to it.
BD used to have a message board but it got a little ugly. So now the statueforums.com is the main place to go, but run by fans and not BD. I also know of a few smaller fan boards that are fun. The SF guys are ok and it's decent environment, but they are a little too much w/ the regulating stuff sometimes. I've had posts deleted for NO reason there.
Thanks though, as now I have something to listed to this afternoon! ;)

I believe that is the message board Bendis was talking about, but I can't be 100% positive on it.

I listened to the podcast and YUP - it's the same Randy Bowen! The board is up and running, although there isn't much going on over there. The regular SF seems to still be the place to be.
Got news from Randy today that there will be a "museum style" FS HULK at the end of the current Phase (about a year from now) in addition to the one shipping soon.
ALSO - there is a website exclusive available as of 20 minutes ago if anyone's interested. Anyone can order it, as you don't need to be a fan club member. And the item? RAWHIDE KID MB! Yes, I've already ordered mine. ;) Here's the info:

That's another custom piece being made by a fan with some super-sculpty and time. If you go to that link you can get in the ones being made. They will likely only make about 20.
Randy Bowen toyed with making a Gargoyle FS statue, but the license from Disney was major $. If there is enough interest and and there's someone willing to do it, then I'm sure they'll keep making these.

Shaman is definitely tempting me, as is Ka-Zar & Zabu (although the $80 will scare me off that one), but it is the Chichester & McDaniel era DD costume that is the surprise in how much it is calling to me.
I would chuck it all for that Goliath though. Curse you Disney!
EM, who will not hesitate in ordering Forbush Man!

Also guys... as far as buying these goes...
You know I'm a fan of discounts. Besides pre-ordering at your LCS or DCBS or whatever I know of at least 3 different ways to get really good discounts.
Join the BDCC Collector's Club (http://bowendesigns.com/page.asp?id=9) - You'll get 20% off of just about everything, and the opportunity to get some exclusives
Pre-order on ebay - Some people say this is risky, but I've got a seller I trust. Not guaranteed, but HUGE discounts!
http://www.comicstatues.com - This guy runs the statueforum.com msg bd that I also play on. 20% off and free shipping.

Pumpkin,
I picked up the Tigra and Destroyer mini-busts yesterday at my LCS. This brings my collection to the Lucky 13. Stingray and Tiger Shark could be possibilities depending on how they look. Others on my potential list include: Mephisto, Vindicator (Alpha Flight), Hobgoblin, Abomination, Punisher, Psylocke, Annihilius. At some point in the future, I will have to figure out how best to display them.
pmpknface
01-11-2007, 12:28 PM
SCORE!!! Nice pics. Those 2 were on the short list for MB or the year, but Terrax (one of my faves) won. Add him to your list! ;)
Mephisto is cool, but the best. Mainly because he's facing to 1 side.
Vindicator is cool, but hard to get. I may be able to help you there tho...
Hobgoblin is awesome! He's a must!
A-bomb is HUGE!!! If you like the bigguns, he's for you.
I haven't gotten my Annihilus yet, and won't for a little while, but he looks great! I know a guy who opened up his wings by using a hair dryer!
Punisher is cool, but if you really like him, go after the rare chrome one.
I passed on Psylocke. I don't get all the x-stuff.
I also know a good place to get risers, and if you have an Ikea near you look for something called a DETOLF shelf. Cheap and good! :D

01-11-2007, 01:45 PM
The Destroyer is heavy and over 7" tall. Just looks cool. Mephisto just has a nice look to it as well. I forgot about Terrax. My LCS has one in their display and the axe looks great. They have the Vindicator piece listed for $90 as (for some reason) it is tough to come by. Abomination has that Destroyer look to it. Big and menacing. I like Hobgoblin only because I liked the character when he first came out in the comic. Psylocke is really the only X-piece I am interested in at this point. I love Wolverine as a character, but none of the pieces seem worthy of the investment. Angel/Archangel could be a possibility down the line.

01-12-2007, 06:43 AM
If you don't like any of the Wolvie's you see - just wait. BD will make a Wolverine and/or a Spidey every year because they always make him $. I think the next ones may be "museum style" FS statues, but he's been toying with MB's that have arms out with claws popped. I have the 1st app one (with the cat-like mask) but the Weapon X one is really cool too!

No, it's not even mine. If click on the link, it says he has someone paint it for him. Usually you can find a decent painter on the boards. Some guys do put their own kits togather, but I'm not that ambitious!
I have to get my Forbush Man kit "built-up" but it's gonna cost me a bit, so I've waited. The guy that made that is now working on this:

Details will be made available at the BD site.

Man, that Thanos kicks a$$, and those dollar signs represent that it was probably expensive. I wish I could get into the busts and statues and stuff, but I have no room to display them, and it seems like they're a lot of coin. probably not that bad, just my perception of them. Nice display though.

The new DCBS list isn't up yet, but I imagine that those 2 Spidey MB's will be 25% off, or $32 a piece. If anyone out there JUST wants to order statues and NOT order comics you can do that here:
Link to Symboite Spidey on ComicStatues.com (http://www.comicstatues.com/statues-busts-props-item-750.html)
Enter in this code: sfbd
And you should get, in total, 30% of retail. You pretty much get 20% but then get free shipping. That's the code for fans of the statueforums. It asks you to include your forum id when you order, so you may want to register there 1st. It's free, of course, and worth 30% off!!! :D

I just picked up the Grey Gargoyle bust this past weekend. Sweet piece. I was deciding between that one, Kang, Baron Blood (something about just seemed cool), Annihilius, Abomination or Spider-Woman.
PS. Is Bowen ever doing a Shaman from Alpha Flight? Father or daughter would be cool either way. [oops, just went to Bowen's site and saw it set for a July release. Whoo-hoo, just in time for my birthday!]
wow/ those are really cool looking! thanks. :) but I don't know how anyone is able to afford those things if they also get books on a monthly basis. and I prefer the full body ones.

Yup, Shaman is out there and up for order! And so you know, there is a Snowbird, Sasquatch / Snowbird variant, normal Sasquatch, and Vindicator. Also, the normal Sasq has a rock base but there is a cubed varaint base as well. There are only 100 of those. Yes, the rest of the team will come in time.
Glad you liked GG! I totally dig him. He's up with my BA Thor, Beta Ray Bill, Gladiator armor, and Absorbing Man. I also kept Man-Thing on that shelf too! :)
Kang still hasn't sold out, and is $60 so I'd wait on him. But Annihilus is friggin' unreal! You GOTTA get him!

Well, I learned a while ago NOT to buy all of them. Also, get discounts. The 3 I just got I paid $95 for all 3! Shipped! Yeah, the FS (full-sized) ones rock too. They are just harder to find space for. I have a few (chrome Silver Surfer, Namor, FF, Doom, etc...) but I refrain from getting too many because 1) I can buy 3 MB's for 1 FS, and 2) I can display a few MB's a lot easier.

Oh, if a character isn't made how you liked it there are always options. This used to be a She-Dragon statue that someone turned into an Aurora:

The normal Sasquatch was actually one of the first MBs I bought. I also have the Snowbird MB. Is the Snowbird/Sasquatch one you mention the one with no arms? Those things kind of freak me out. Otherwise, the piece looks nice (except for that 'no arms' thing). I cannot wait for the Shaman piece. We have talked about the original Vindicator piece. I have that on my radar. Something about having the full original Alpha Flight team seems cool, so hopefully the others are eventually made. That was a nasty tease with the 'Aurora' piece. For a second, I thought that was real. Very nice paint job by whomever fixed up the She-Dragon figure.
Annihilus is definitely one of the next few pieces I will get.

Nice! I don't have much of a frame of reference for Spymaster, but it looks good to me. Is just the paint jop custom? If I had to guess it looks like it was based on a Prowler or a Spiderman MB.
Also, the Sentinals are bad a$$, with a capital $.

Here's his wiki site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spymaster_(comics)
I think he was the one who stole the tech from Stark and started the Armor Wars.
This is a custom job. Prowler hasn't shipped yet, actually. This is my 1st custom piece! It's still at the painters tho. Can't wait to get it! I've got 2 more to get painted and I'm expecting a few more in soon.

white queen bust
bi-beast will happen (THIS WOULD BE AWESOME  )
destroyer armor thor mb variant in the works (since I have the regular Destroyer MB, I would probably have to look at getting this)

One or 2 guys on the SF have been "campaigning" for Bi-Beast for years. Another guy wants a Man-Ape. Another a FS Ant-Man. It's kinda funny. These guys just keep bringing up their faves and eventually they get done. I think that's where the Destroyer and some of the otehr variants have come from.
And I'd be down w/ just about all of the MB's mentioned above that are non-X related. I try to stay away from MOST of them. It helps limit the collection.

There are threads that pop up occasionally where fans post and Randy replies. Randy's been asked about these 2 before and supposedly YES there are gonna happen, but maybe not until phase 4.
Check it (post #52). (http://statueforum.com/showthread.php?t=29871&page=3&highlight=stingray)
Jack's been talked about too. I think he'll happen eventually. And I think there's a kit out there that you can get that is of him.

I've been extremely busy lately (new girlfriends will do that to a guy) but I will be taking pics of stuff soon. I may even get a 4th detolf cabinet this weekend and do a bit of rearranging.
I also know a guy who is going to do a bit of repainting for me. I had a chrome Ultron but sold it because I didn't really like it. So he's going to repaint my normal Ultron in "alclad" which is pretty much chrome. Here's a sample:

Though it had a character I like (you like obscure - remember Polestar? - always liked the character design for him)
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s176/nightstar1441/Polestar.jpg
I thought the character deserved a bit more than that. The writers just tried to build him up as a character way too quickly instead of developing a stronger base story and supporting cast. But this was the 90's and Marvel forgot who to write around this time for a few years...still, it would have been nice to give him some props.
Now you can see why I'm excited for a Stingray and Jack of Hearts bust...
Now if we can just work on Paladin.......;)

I barely remember him. He came outta that "great game" era of ASM. At least Joystick is still around.
I am ALL ABOUT a Paladin!!! There's a Marvel Premiere cover that's got the pose I need him in.
Do you have a big collection?
Nightstar1441
05-10-2007, 02:39 PM
40,000+ comics.
Mostly Marvel and DC.
How's your collection? Anything in particular focus?
Most are in storage at the moment with most of my collectibles but we're re-doing the basement to bring them all home :)
I actually just started on Bowen mini busts - I been resisting as I have a lot of mini statues and some really cool lead figures from the UK known as the Classic Marvel Figurine Collection - but the Nova (Richard Rider) was just a fantastic sculpt I couldn't pass on.
I love Paladin - was a little disappointed in the Silver Sable series he was not given a more prominent role. I like the look McFarlane gave him in ASM making the goggles one piece instead of the 2 different eye pieces. And I do own the Marvel Premiere #43 that featured Paladin - prefer the modern costume a tad more with the purple and black. The old sky blue with purple and green outlines has the type of rythem a blind man would follow...lol
Polestar was originally killed in the Great Game by Del Toro Negro but another person has donned the suit and has been seen in it recently.

Polestar was recently seen as a new contestant in the Great Game - he popped up in Thunderbolts #2.
I have pretty much the full clip of the Bowen mini statues - both Marvel and DC. Sadly - not enough room for Full Size - gotta keep em small. so we can fit everything.
I saw the new postings - anything interest you out of them?
Been waiting for the Constrictor to be posted.
Gladiator is not bad - contemplating that one, though I'd probably prefer a Whirlwind, Trapster, Spymaster or Ghost.

Personally, I never took to the mini-statues, but if you have a bunch of 'em the do look cool and are affordable. BD "may" make a mini Silver Surfer eventually.
I've a handful of FS's, but I stick to the MB's mostly. I'm all about the Gladiator! I have issues with the Dragon Man (my post on it is here, post #36!). (http://statueforum.com/showthread.php?t=48571&page=2) I like the Hercules variant better than the regular one. The Cap is sweet but I'm holding out for an action pose.
Interested in a Ronan? (http://statueforum.com/showthread.php?t=48539) FS available too.
Whirlwind you say??? (http://statueforum.com/showthread.php?t=47934)
Those are both done by the same guy who I got my Guardsman (http://statueforum.com/showthread.php?t=35545&page=6)from AND my Spymaster (he's earlier up in this thread).
Nightstar1441
05-11-2007, 01:39 PM
Ahhh - so you were the one who commissioned the full size Guardsman - nicely done....now all you need is Force, Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man and you can have an armor line.
I saw the Whirlwind - I thought it was a very nice piece - problem with me and kits is I have no painting skills whatsoever.
I saw your Spymaster - not bad at all - I always thought he was a tad under-rated as an Iron Man villian.
Ronan has that classic look from his first appearance.
I saw your posts on Dragon Man - and I gotta agree on the pricing and the size and it is a little disconcerning the childish response illicted by the sculptor. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it was not haters - just comments. Some people have thin skin.
Bust size though - I think the Beta Ray Bill is the largest I have and I probably would not go any larger. Wife also comments since these we'll be setting these up in the living room TV display are - she only likes the ones with arms - go figure...lol.
How large is your collection of MB's?
I'm up to about a dozen. Mostly the secondary characters like Nova, Union Jack, Yellowjacket, Beta Ray Bill and a moderate first stringers like Captain Marvel 1970's, Psylocke, Angel, Havok, Polaris, Bishop, Vindicator.
Gonna hunt down an Original Ghost Rider, Taskmaster, War Machine and possible Shocker.
Though I am excited for some of the other characters I'm hearing rumored for possibility.
I gotta ask - which character are you hoping for to be made? Since we both like the obscure - I'd love to hear your top 10 wish list.
pmpknface
05-11-2007, 02:22 PM
I'll probably hold out for BD to make the "key" IM baddies. I didn't really "commission" it, or the other ones that guy did. Furet03 (Chris) doesn and then sells them off. I just got one of the MB's with the change-o-head. I still have to put it together tho.
Oh - I can't sculpt or paint either! Hell - they arrive in pieces! You get someone to put them together for you AND paint them. It's called a "build up" and I think I'm gonna get a Whirlwind and have it arrive all together. Actually, I'm gonna have him painted skin color instead of gray to look more modern.
Glad you agree on the DM. That thing should be "tweaked" before it's done.
I still don't have my Spymaster too! My painter is gonna mail me a few when he's done with them. I gotta email him...
BRB is a big one. Lemme tell ya - they aren't gettin' smaller! I don't know how many I have. Less than 100 MB's, but closer to 75 maybe. I want to sell a few, including a bunch of exclusives. (email me at pmpknface@gmail.com for info)
The only one I have left to get that I want is an Ant-Man, but not for $200-$300+. Take a look here:
http://www.villagephotos.com/pubgallery.asp?id_=1213135
and look at the statue displays folder. That's old, but close to current state.
I'll have the retro Wasp on Monday tho! :)
As far as a top 10... ugh... I'm bad at those. I know BD is making some that I want (Ms. Marvel, both versions for example) but I like Spidey villains, other weird villians, and complete teams.
But now, time to start the weekend! :)

New MB sneaks of:
HULK (painted)
Thor w/ Destroyer Armor!!!
Black Knight (Sir Percy)
Black Knight (Dane Whitman)
Plus, there's a new Wolvie statue up there (supposed to have 6 versions too!), and here's a look at a modern Captain Marvel variant:

Finally - Dane Whitman.
Been looking forward to this one.
6 variants on the Wolverine? Guess he needs to get a Wolvie out there as an 'A' list character escpecially doing all the great 2nd stringers

Well, people are asking for specific versions. So he'll do a ton. Also, they will have slightly other different things that just the outfit. ;)

No, we never know when pieces are coming out. However, I'd guess that because it's a variant, it COULD be some form of exclusive. If you aren't in the collector's club, I'd join if I were you. And make sure to ask for the pin when you join otherwise they won't send it to you. ;)

Linsner's Sinful Suzi Pinup Becomes Sexy Statue
Courtesy of CS Moore Studio
sinful suziPremiere pinup artist Joseph Michael Linsner has granted The CS Moore Studio, Ltd. the license to create a statue based on his sexy Sinful Suzi character.
The 1/6 scale statue of the alluring blue-haired, creamy-skinned siren will be sculpted by Clayburn Moore, known for his breathtaking renditions of the female form.
Sinful Suzi first appeared in sketches Linsner created for a series of eBay auctions, and fans went wild. Shortly thereafter Linsner brought Suzi into her own with the Linsner Girls Portfolio 4: Sinful Suzi. Now the leather-clad Suzi will thrill fans again in a statue that captures her every curve to perfection.
"Working with Clay is tremendously exciting," said Linsner. "He knows how to communicate the dangerous curves of a woman's body. Nobody would be able to give Suzi 3-D life that way CS Moore Studio will." Linsner noted that after upcoming projects Dark Ivory & the 20th anniversary celebration of Dawn, a Sinful Suzi comic was next on his plate.
"Linsner's style complements my own very well," said Moore. "I believe that fans of drop-dead sexy women will definitely be pleased with this piece."
The CS Moore Studio is also working with Linsner and the talented Eva Hopkins on a statue of the beautiful character Dark Ivory, soon to be featured in her own comic series published by Image Comics. More information about the Dark Ivory Statue is available at http://www.csmoorestudio.com/articles.asp?id=125.
Photos, edition size, pricing and shipping information for the Sinful Suzi Statue will be released at www.csmoorestudio.com as it becomes available.

How are the Detolf's - I've heard mixed reviews.
pmpknface
06-13-2007, 01:44 PM
I have never had any issues with them at all. They are quite sturdy for being 3 pieces of glass, a door, and a top/bottom with rails on the sides. Extremely affordable ($60) and the lights are even on sale now for $5 for a pair.
The lights (the "non") don't come w/ screws - which annoys me sometimes, but I'll deal. That's why there are no lights on the 2 detolfs on the left - yet!
I wish that the shelves were adjustable, but I get risers pretty cheap. Check this site out: http://stores.ebay.com/Laser-Creations
I do wich I could put statues over 14" tall in them though.
This is the worst story I've heard (w/ pics): (http://statueforum.com/showthread.php?t=49431&highlight=detolf)
It wasn't the weight of the statues. What I think happened was my wife's grandfather came by this week and had to get behind that cabinet to fix the phone line. He removed the statues and moved the cabinet and anyone who knows a deotlf will tell you, the shelves can shift to one side with only a minute edge holding on. I think the top shelf got moved and a few days later, the "weight" caused it collapse in on itself.
I know of other ways to display stuff too. Search the net for glass cubes...

06-14-2007, 07:11 PM
Thanx for the tips.
Doing a lot of work at the house - setting up the basement to be the 'comic area' but we intent to have a couple of displays in the living room (entertainment center with glass displays to the right and left) and a display/bookshelf/breakfront on an available wall.
Wood based - father is a woodworker (learning some of the craft) and we can design wood bases the same tone to match the display units.
Do you prefer the clear risers?
I also noticed the coils on the new Constrictor seem to smaller and thicker than the proto-type - was hoping for the longer coils - they seem to give the character more depth when looking straight at him.
Well hopefully Captain Britian 1970's will be out by the time I go to SDCC.
pmpknface
06-15-2007, 06:51 AM
COnstrictor: The coils in there are actually from an Omega Red. They just put them in there to have something for the sneak pic. I think they are gonna try and make thinner, metallic looking ones.
Yeah, I prefer the transparent risers. I'm trying to decide what sized ones to get next. I may just get a bunch.
When I got the 2 new Detolf's I also got a $20 bookcase. Put that in the living room and put ALL MY HC's on it! Looks pretty cool. Now I have some tpb adjustments to make around the house.
I also still have the corner cabinet for statues too... ;)

I really like the way Spider-Woman II/Aracne looks - very smooth flow. Hellcat is also a tempting piece though I may wait to see how Nighthawk looks before deciding on whether to grab that one are not (though I think Hellstorm would be a nicer piece with that one :))

Voted for the blue color scheme - seeing them together - i can see the appeal of the 2nd color scheme though to me - it just doesn't look right - maybe a deeper grey for the chainmail?

Nightstar1441
06-26-2007, 01:21 PM
That actually looks a lot better than the previous one (which was a photoshop - thought the silver took too much away from the facial characteristics)
I could go either way on this one now seeing the chainmail toned down really puts some color into the character without making him look like Captain Ultra :D
pmpknface
06-26-2007, 01:26 PM
Yeah, it's tough. I'm just glad that Randy told Danno to go ahead and paint up another one. The fact that feedback is actually listened to is unreal. ;)

You aren't the 1st to point that out, but there's 1 other detail - LOOK CLOSELY AT THE MASKS! One has the black outline and one has the "reverse Robin" all open eye mask. So you'd need a change-o-head too!

FYI - You'll be seeing this one up for order in a few months, and painted before that. This may be the most insane FS Randy Bowen has ever made!!!
He'll have a chang-o-hand that will have a spear and that scepter he usually carries. One raven will be on his shoulder and the other on his feet. His wolves will be represented in the base.
Whadda think?

I think I want 3 out of the 4. Just not sure which Scorpion I want yet. Of course the thing that sucks is that if you want all 4 it's $263 retail! If you subtract $55 (that's 1, the cheapest) it's still $208!!!
Man, 4 MB at once is tough. I may have to only pre-order 2 and get 1 or 2 others later.

Yeah, the DCBS discout I'll get can drop my (suspected) want total from around $203 to $152. But that's STILL a lot of extra $ on statues in 1 month. And from DCBS I'd get charged for ALL at once. OUCH!
From what I can tell on the statue forum, the Hulkbuster is gonna be a big seller. Grab it while you can!
FYI, yes his helmet does flip up revealing a Tony Stark head inside.

There are even MORE pics in the thread above. Notice the ravens on his shoulder and on the base. Left hand will be replaceable w/ a scepter. A MB is coming with different colors, weapons, and helmet.
Other news too floating around the boards. Working on a Val bust soon. FS Silver Surfer won't be chromed, but will be HUGE!
Trying to decide if I want a RED cape ltd Black Knight or if the BLUE one is enough. I'll still get the retro one though. And that Thor Destroyer armor is a mmust have for me.

Stop posting these things! Now I probably have to buy the Tiger Shark and Hulkbuster Iron Man (douchebag!). One of the Scorpions could be a maybe. The Odin FS is sweet, but out of my price range. Plus, I prefer the MBs. Since I have the original Destroyer MB, I may have to get the Thor Destroyer MB as a companion. I like the Puck one, but the P on his torso seemed a little elongated for a "short" character. The red-caped Black Knight was also interesting.
Upcoming buys:
MB Tiger Shark (damn you Jamie!)
MB Hulkbuster Iron Man (damn you Jamie!)
MB Constrictor
MB Stingray (pre-ordered)
MB Hellcat
Probables:
MB Abomination
MB Hobgoblin
MB Kang
MB Annihilus
Ugh! How much is that? Not to mention needing display supplies at some point in the future.
For Futurama fans: "With my last breath I curse Jamie!" ;)

I'm such an evil influence, aren't I?
I almost always order this stuff from DCBS, and I'm a BDCC member, so I get 20% off of everything on the website. Look at the prices for the BD stuff on DCBS this month:
Bust / Retail / Discount / My Cost
BLACK KNIGHT MINI BUST $60.00 25% $45.00
BLACK KNIGHT RETRO MINI BUST $60.00 25% $45.00
STINGRAY MINI BUST $85.00 25% $63.75
And the shipping isn't much, as opposed to Bowen's shipping which is $9 minimum, and that's PER bust!
Also, DCBS has a great ebay store that sells these too. I know a few other ebay guys that you can usually get good deals on.
As for your probables, I'g aim for HOBGOBLIN and ANNIHILUS before Kang and Abom. They are both cool, but I like the 1st 2 much better!
The good thing about your upcoming buys is that they are staggered. So it's 1-2 a month, and that's not so bad. Better if you can get a discount! :)
Oh, did I ever mention what I did to my Annihilus?? hehe...

Constrictor and Puck were released this week.

Not getting the full Alpha Flight as I'm only getting the pieces that i on my character wish list :) and I also collect the lead figures as well so I can't too too bonkers though its easy to do so.
Constrictor is a great piece - you will not be disappointed.
I'm down for Paladin if you need to get numbers for this one ;)
And yes...I also have a 'special piece' in the works as well...but you already know what I'm talking about since you made it happen :D

The Hydra Agent is BOB. He's got his own MySpace page!
And don't worry - we're getting HYDRA agents too!
Actually, those AIM guys are tme same MB. It's going to come with CHANGE-O-ARMS! So people will be out there buying multiple ones to display! They'll go great with the MODOK that BD is making too...
As far as the monsters falling under teh mythos line, I (guessing) doubt it because there's a difference of making a classic character in your own version and then making MARVEL'S version.

Hoping to get mine (and Black Knight) this weekend :)
I still love that Nightwatch custom though (now all we need is Polestar and El Toro Del Negro to go with him) :D

Blue Black KNight comes either Monday or the following week for me! ;) The red one has shipped too.
Also, the THOR / DESTROYER should be here on Friday! WOOHOO!!!
Check out that link above for a few more shots of my displays.
If you think my customs are nice, you should see some others. One guy made a Radioactive Man out of a Absorbing Man that I'm dying for!!!

I saw that piece - fantastic paints and the slick base really make it stand apart :D
There really are some great customs - I might have to get a little more active in that area, especially if I want to see some of those great characters that Bowen might not be able to address

Jamie - I picked up my Stingray preorder last night at my LCS. The wings did not grab me at first but once I got it home it really is a nice piece. I was also looking at Hellcat, Constrictor and Puck. Thor Destroyer looks nice.
I really hate you for getting me interested in MBs!

jclaus - Congrats on the Stingray. Hellcat is cool, and so is the Constrictor. Puck isn't for me but if you want to complete Alpha Flight go for it. There are already sneaks of Northstar and Aurora out too.
Yesterday's haul:
Box #1) Amazon.com. New Frontier flick (DC animated movie based on the comics), Dr Strange flick, and Superman vs. Doomsday flick!
Box #2) Darkchylde custom! Small problem - sword hilt came off, and so did her headpiece, which is her hair and horns. totally fixable, and I may do it myself. Not the end of the world.
Box #3) Customs from FRANCE!!! Ok, Crimson Dynamo if totally unreal! Shiny red! And the head, body, and base are 3 pieces held together with a pin, so you can spin them to display how you want! Or, maybe I'm thinking put some apoxie in there and put it in 1 place. After that - MANDRIOD!!! Bright shiny yellow! This thing is massive! Base is separate from the body and there are cables that are metal painted yellow that go from the gauntlets to the back, like the Apoc mb. It is HUGE! Screw any other piece, this is MASSIVE!!! Also in the box are 3 unpainted kits: AIM goon, Sidewinder, and Puff Adder
Box #4) Ok, are you ready for this? Thor Destroyer #498 / 500. I open it up and wings are mint, hammers looks smooth, and the FRIGGIN' BUST IS SEPARATED FROM THE BASE!!! I called them up, and they said to send in an email. So I did, waiting to hear back. UGH!!!!!! I didn't even remove it from the styrofoam. Just closed the box back up.

Are you getting anything customized now? Who are you interested in, or what group / type of character?

I'm in on the Rom project (which will be my first - been burned before going outside regular channels which is why I have been a tad hesitant). BTW - thank you for lobbying for that one :)
I think I will be focusing on minor characters that Bowen will have no chance of touching like Paladin (I think I've mentioned him before as being on my wish list), Torpedo(come on, wouldn't he look awesome next to Rom), Shroud (I think someone mentioned there might be a plan for this one), Polestar (yes, I know I'm probably the only fan of this character), American Eagle, Nomad, Cyclone II, Maverick, Sabra, Porcupine, Ghost, Chance, Death Adder, Unicorn, Darkhawk, Solo.
As you can see - I'm pretty diverse. My significant other likes them as well and will let me display them in the main rooms of the house (but only if they have arms is her only rule )
I've left off some characters as I think Bowen will wind up doing them (Quasar, Silver Sable, Machine Man, Cloak and Dagger).
I will be getting Firelord, Air Walker and Jack of Hearts once Bowen releases them as well :evilsmile
Hopefully I didn't ramble on too much here.

Very cool! Yes, I needed the ROM MB. Somehow I managed to compel Helder to re-cast it. Thank GOD! Glad you're in on that!
It looks like a Shroud will get done, so you're in luck there. There is a Paladin in the works too, so pay attention!
I finally used my Dremmel this week too. I had to glue Darkchylde's headpiece (hair / horns) back on and I had to sand the old glue off. It was nerve wracking but worth it. I really want to start messing with a few of my old MB's and try to customize them myself. I've got the tools, I just need the time.

Good to hear you were able to fix that.
And glad to see you have got the skills as well (absolutely none here...and I have tried ). Very envious of such fantastic talent.
I saw that Paladin as well - will be watching very closely on that one :D
I am curious, what busts are your thoughts of customization do you have :evilsmile
Without the skills - sometimes you cannot see the potential in a piece
pmpknface
03-05-2008, 01:30 PM
Well, I haven't tried, so my skills are quite unknown... but here's what I want to try:
Prowler -> SWARM
Kingpin -> SLUG
Shocker -> not sure... HUMAN FLY maybe?
Nightstar1441
03-05-2008, 01:34 PM
Hmmmm...you know...now that you got me thinking about it...
Shocker is sanded down smooth might work for a character like Eel (I know he was done in a custom from Iceman but he would look a little more dynamic in this pose), Viper I or even Slyde (though he might be too muscular for that character)
Prowler....maybe the Wraith?
Was there a kit for Guardsman too in a Mini bust?
pmpknface
03-07-2008, 01:55 PM
There is a Guardsman kit. PM Furet03 from the boards about it.
Wraith is cool!

I'm also enjoying the fact that there's a "break" in the solicits. I did pre-order Odin, but nothing for me before that.
I will be getting the AIM 2-pack though! ;)
Nightstar1441

I'm gonna enjoy the break because you know - once the floodgates open, there will a ton of options to make up for lost time.
And with a character selection that will be with 2nd stringers - its gonna be tough not to go overboard :D

NORTHSTAR/AURORA - :D
other ALPHA FLIGHT MB surprises

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY - could be sweet

Last Friday there was a Q&A with Randy and he let loose a LOT of info. I summarized his answers here:

There was a Jack of Hearts sneak too.
Since then, we've seen:
- sketches from Mark Newman for a Jean Gray Black Queen.
- Jackal sneak peeks (must be by Maddox)
- Mangog sneaks too! Thor villain. SWEET!

I don't know if you guys listed to my and Augie's monthly podcast, but I do talk statues a bit on it each month.
Well, a pair of MB's (Frankie & the Bride) produced by Reel Art Studions and sculpted by Willaim Paquet was talked about a few months ago and are now available. I just found this out about the producer:
Of course YOU may not know that RAS puts out a newsletter and we DO offer special deals to subscribers on some of our new products. So it pays to subscribe. The newsletter went out on 02/22 to approximately 300 subscribers and was good through the end of this month. Excerpt below:
"Newsletter Subscriber Only Discount Information: We have all three William Paquet pieces covered under our special Newsletter Subscriber Discount this time around. The Spider, The Monster and The Bride all earn a 20% discount should you order them through us and mention this Newsletter when doing so. The particulars of exactly what you need to do to qualify immediately follow."
Another point to keep in mind is that there are not 1000 to 2000 units of these floating around so they should maintain their original value pretty well if not exceed it. The edition size was set at 500 units and we produced 200 plus 25 A/P's in the first run. When edition runs are small it costs the producer more per unit to make. With an untested product it would have been foolish for us to make a large amount no matter how wonderful we think they are personally. So low numbers can equate to a higher price (even though these are not tiny pieces) but it also equates to more collectibility. Just a thought. Hopefully you'll admit the quality is good.

Geez, you already got me trying to hunt down that Guardsman kit (took your advice and contacted - no response yet) and I just saw a Blacklash kit and then there's the Jack O'Lantern kit....
You should just put all of info together in a guide on how to an achieve a divorce in 5 easy steps :D

HA! There's a guy out there who started a thread. He and his wife are curbing his "habit" and he's looking for suggestions.
The Jack kit is just to cheap to pass up. I have the Blacklash kit. It's so cool! It's still unbuilt though (I also bought the Madlyne Pryor and another one from them before they closed up shop) So is my Guardsman (I saw you look into that!), but hopefully I'll get them out the door soon.
That's thanks to a paycheck, a bonus, a double bonus, tax return, and tax relief! :D

Tell me that Air Walker sneak does not look awesome.
I was concerned about the concept sketch and the actual product not looking alike - but I was completely floored.
Vance Astro - love the positioning - I was not going to get into the Guardians of the Galaxy but they are starting to really impress.
Pity no Quasar this phase.
Congrats on the Jack O'Lantern (still waiting for mine). Just got a shipping notice on Rom :D

And here is the air walker:

I'd love a Quasar - retro and modern, but at least it'll save me $.
I bet some of those Guardians will be in packs. Nobody wants a Charlile 27 alone!
You've got your ROM notice!
Nightstar1441

Yep - shipping notice via paypal
You think the GOTG will be two pack or three pack?
I figure there is Charlie-27, Vance Astro, Yondu, Martinex, Starhawk, Aleta and Nikki.
Maybe two 2-packs and a 3-pack?
Or three 2-packs and an exclusive?
I won't hazard a guess on the frog (since I've seen the sneak and will allow someone else who might not have make the call :D )
Patience should work out - I remember when he confirmed Phase IV, he was calling it his last phase - now there have been mentions for phase V, so there is hope :)
