Just thought I'd bump this with new info!

On a personal note I've got in both new Nighthawks, the Modern Scorpion, and the 6-armed Spidey! All are cool, but the Scorpion and Spidey are to DIE for!

Bowen has a BUNCH of new stuff up for order as of today. There's a boatload new "faux bronzes" but they arent' for me. You've got Odin, Wolvie, DD, Spidey and then some.

On the new front you've got QUicksliver, blue & green, and the Odin MB.

Sneaks galore have been poppuing up too. Titanium Man, new Iron Man (Bob Layton style!), a whole huff about the new Spidey FS pose, and even more.

I also previewed a few pieces in the recent Pipeline Previews Podcast which is now up.

OH - and I ordered a few things that I'll share with you when they come in. These are quite special, and all will be revealed soon!

I agree with you on the Modern Scorpion - just a fantastic piece :biggrin:

The paint on that piece just makes it jump out.

Did you order the Paladin kit - if so, what color scheme are you thinking about using.

I'm leaning towards the purple/black but wanted to get another opinion.

I do so love your 'special' pieces - they are always unique.

Yes, I did get a Paladin kit and an Arsenal kit. I've got sooooo many kits beign worked on right now. A bunch of New X-Men and a Clea at the moment.

No, I've got a "pair" of goodies that I should get hopefully by th end of the month. ;)

I'm actually trying to find a statue, it's the Storm statue from Bowen where she is in her black uniform, she appears to be flying and a cloud is underneath her.
I can only find the mini-version, I don't want the mini.
Any helpful hints? I've tried Ebay.

That's a tough one. You can:

- Pay attention to the SF Buy / Sell / trade area for one.
- Sent up an ebay search and save it, so you're alerted to new listings. They do pop up from time to time.

What do you think of the full size "mistress death" by bowen?
I think it's a really nice looking piece. Doesn't fit with my decor, but if it did, I'd consider it in a heartbeat. I love every Bowen piece that I do have, and would consider that studio's work as tops in my daily interest levels.

I don't know how much it is from where you're ordering it from...but from the place that I order most of my stuff monthly (orders available from Previews through next Monday), the order price is $85 (plus whatever shipping costs are associated with the total order) which is a 15% discount from the $100 list price. So I would expect that you'll find the cost somewhere in that upper double-digit $$ range.

For a 12" statue (with interchangeable faces too), I don't find that a bad price point at all; especially not for such a fine looking piece. But that's just my humble opinion.

Hi. I just wanted to ask a couple of questions. I'm working on my dcbs order for this month and I noticed a statue in the back of previews which seemed interesting. I was wondering:

What do you think of the full size "mistress death" by bowen?

It is listed on dcbs as "discount applied upon purchase". Why do that and what does it mean? How can you tell how much the item is if you're pushing your maximum budget?

Thanks for asking! Yeah, I'm really digging the "Death" statue. It was actually sculpted entirely by Randy too, which he doesn't get to do much anymore. I love the change-o-head, which is just necessary for this character.

I'd almost like the shade of purple to be a bit darker, but those are promo shots and always to be taken as such. I'm looking at getting her because of the $100 retail cost. I guess Bowen got a great deal from the factory so he decided to pass along the savings to us! :biggrin:

As far as the DCBS discount, it's pretty much the same as anything else you order. When you order from DCBS you get charged for the ENTIRE order when the 1st item from that order form ships. So they will ring you up for a $75 Death statue, and NOT charge you when it actually ships. Remember, statues and other merchandise are frequently not on schedule. So pre-ordering could mean that you pay in June but don't get the statue until November.

In the past month I have picked up my Iron Man Hulkbuster Armor and Tiger Shark MB's. I pre-ordered the Aurora/Northstar 2-pack MBs. The Marrina MB looks sweet. Firelord looks cool as well. Is that one Thor villain Kurse? That one looks nice.

Oh, and did I mention that I still hate Jamie!

Thanks for the replies on the death statue. I've decided to order it. I really don't have much knowledge of statues. The only other one I have is the full size bowen green hulk (the one with his arms raised up to smash. LOVED the new hulk movie also). I really like the bowen stuff but I get so many comics every month I can rarely ever fit in stuff that expensive at a shot. I seriously need to cut back, especially dc, but that is another rant/problem.

One more curious thing I was wondering about. Did anyone get the sentinel, the big one that was even taller than a full size statue? I thought it looked cool and was curious about how much it was going for but at the time I could not afford it at all.

The Death statue is very nice. Especially at the price tag of $100.
I have a serious serious statue question because this is pissing me off GREATLY.
I have a number of anime statues, the ones made of PVC that you actually have to put on the base via holes in the feet and pegs on the base.
Some of mine lean forward, my Spike Spiegel titled so far forward he no longer stays on his base.
Can anyone tell me why this happens, and the best way to correct it?

Also, another question, though not many of you may be familiar with statues/figures outside of comic books, and this one relates to video game figures. This is the new Hitomi from Dead or Alive Xtreme 2, which they say is the first in a series they are calling "Venus on the Beach." Is there any word on what other figures are coming out in that line? I have looked but cannot come up with anything.

Also, what do you all think of this figure? The price tag is a bit steep ($116) for PVC and only being 1/5th scale but it also looks quite nice. I'd like some opinions.

Checked E-bay. Prices are the same. It's a great piece, but $115 for about 6 inches just won't cut it. I paid about $150 for one PVC piece, and it was huge, sturdy, and pretty rare. That made it worth the $$$. That was the Koyori figure from Sengoku blade, photo posted below:

I've been thinking of maybe getting a PVC piece just to see what they are like. I kinda like the anime Witchblade pieces. Of course, that's just one more thing for me to collect. They are often tempting when I see them in the Previews catalog though...

Man... that's a good question. I can display just about all of it in 5 Ikea detolfs and 1 giant corner curio cabinet. I don't have many FS statues, maybe 10-12, but I have a TON of mini-busts. Maybe close to 100. Not sure... It's hard for me to count them as I have 75% of them packed up at the moment.

I have other things too, like my DC animated women statues. I need to get the Harley one again (gggrrrr......) and I have some porclean ones too. I also have a mini Lady Death statue and an Optimus Prime MB.

I also have a bunch of toys. Mostly, a TON of the DC Animated figures and boxed sets. The rest are Marvel toys from the mid-90's and random other toys like CHAOS! Comics figs, Spawn toys, a Martha Washington, Dawn, Akira, etc...

I also have some animation cels, original art, lithos, posters, prints, sketches, portfolios - OH, and about 20,000 comic (about).

Not at all Josh. Here's the deal - it's not so much the built in stand, as just about all statues have some kind of base. It's the fact that the character doesn't have his full body represented.

I know with pieces that are this BIG it's hard to wrap your head around the idea of it being a "mini" bust, but he's in scale with the other MB's in the Bowen line. The Bowen MB scale is about 1/8 of what it would be in real life.

On the other side, a FS (full sized) statue from BD is about 1/6 scale, slightly bigger. Some statues have varied a bit, but these are generally the norm.

I get a 20% discount from my LCS if I pre-order directly through them. The extra 5% is nice, but I do like the convenience and familiarity of ordering through the store I have been shopping at for years.

When is Man-Ape scheduled to come out?

Gotcha. I didn't realize that FS menat they were full bodies. I assumed that since the little one is a mini-bust that fullsize just meant a larger bust,

In other statue news.... I'm starting to get an appreciation for SHUNYA YAMASHITA'S work. Here's one of the MB's that you can find in the back 1/2 of the catalog:

I have two Shunya Yamashita pieces. As with alot Anime statues, they tend to lean off of their bases after awhile. Now, busts should be fine, but any statues, just keep caution of what temp. they may reach.

HA! No, I don't think you did. Yesterday was the 1st time it's be available at all. You usually don't pre-order stuff until it's been in Previews, and most of these won't see the catalog for months.

Except WW2 Bucky, as that's a website exclusive.

Thanks for the pics! I've been spending some time in the Statue Forum where I see that you have a Bowen thread. Do you actually interview Bowen or do you just summarize whatever interviews you find on the net? Anyways, it looks like I'm going to buy some Detolfs for my statues (I had previously displayed them on the top of my Billy bookshelves). The only downfall I see with the Detolfs is that the big/tall statues have to be on the bottom shelf or on top of the Detolfs themselves. How are the Detolfs working out for you? BTW, I am insanely jealous of the chrome Silver Surfer. I'm also planning on getting the Odin but I keep getting outbid on eBay.

No, I don't interview him (and that thread is gone, as most of the knowledge is known and I couldn't keep it up) but instead I was getting the info from the bendis boards where Bowen now has a section (Randy and him are buddies and both live in Portland). He was, and still is, positng some things ONLY there, so it's a good place to check up on him.

What I did was find Randy and look at all his recent posts. It's a great way to find out the info!

I love the detolfs. You can, so I've heard, go to a hardware store and buy extra spacers that the glass shelves sit on and therefore RAISE them and make it so larger statues can sit on middle cabinets. Some others use these glass cubes that are amazing. If you search the SF you'll find some amazing collections and display rooms.

I got the chrome SS direct from Bowen, as I knew he'd sell out and be allocated. It's a # 80 too.

Odin is great. I friggin' love 'em! If you're looking for anything else, lemme know. I gots friends.

Also - there's a buy/sell/trade section that can be helpful. It seemed fitting to mention it since it's a topic this week.

Well, got some detolfs last weekend and will fully assemble them this week. Got those "bumpers" from Lowes to rise the shelves and got some IKEA lighting too. We'll see how it goes.

Not normally a fan of mini busts but that Sauron one has me drooling!

So many good FS coming up..... Abomination, Daredevil, Nova, Destroyer, Mr. Sinister, Archangel, Omega Red.... this hobby is making me bankrupt!

Only the last 2 are MB's and they are like $100 a piece! I hardly ever get FS's but I want all above but the Storm one. Decisions, decisions....

Yeah, I get them (mostly) from DCBS too. You really can't beat the overall deal you can get. Sometimes I'll buy from Bowen directly for exclusives and items that I'm afraid may sell out. I'm a BDCC member so I get 20% off from them.

The only other option that I don't realy on too much anymore is ebay. I'd strongly suggest staying away from pre-orders, but you can often get great deals after a MB has been released on the bay, even with shipping, if you pay attention.

ALSO - It's high time I tell you guya about this little deal.....

If you go to LIVE.COM, search "BOWEN STATUE" you'll see a link that says "Shop on ebay for this stuff and get 25% off!"

No reason for passing on Storm in particular. I just "try" to stay away from too many FS's because they take up more space, cost more, and I'm also not a huge Storm fan.

In the new catalog there are 2 other MB: Cyclops and Jack of Hearts. I'll be getting Jack & the Ringmaster there. I'm all set with the rest. I have a horde on IM stuff already. And there's a FS Hulkbuster coming - and 2 versions of it at that!!!

I think I may pass on the Zombie and either get him off ebay, or...

But there's NO WAY I can afford that much crap. I think I'll end up pre-ordering like 1-2 of them, and worry about the rest on ebay. I just saw a MACHINE MAN go for $20 the other day. I have a feeling with the economy and the mass amount of crap coming out from BD that we'll see a lot of stuff going cheap on the bay. At least, I hope so!

I like Conan, but not enough to buy a FS of him. All of Moore's stuff is amazing though.

There's a new MOJO sneak out there, and there's a painted THUNDER-FROG and BATROC too! After the Ms Marvel's the next FS I want is a modern Nova. That's manditory!

FYI - I just bought & moved into a house, so all of my statues are still boxed up! I'm gonna have to re-organize EVERYTHING!!! So when I'm done I'll post pics! It'll be a while though.

Other notes - I finally paid for the 5 customs I had done last year and they are en route!

AND - I got the IRON MONGER MB!!! The blue color is awesome. Even the girlfriend approves! :)

Actually, I posted a few months ago that I would post a pic of my collection - still haven't quite finished organizing yet!

My feeling is that the Ms. Marvel retro will be more popular than the modern based on comments/polls on Statue Forum. I would pre-order that. Doesn't hurt that its taller by an inch and $25 cheaper too.

Do you really think that all of Clayburn Moore's work is amazing? I find him to be hit-or-miss. One of my favorite statues though is the Ripclaw statue (which I have). I've been trying to find a decent priced Pitt statue for years with no success. That looked like a huge statue at the time - nowadays it will look like a mini-statue beside Classic Hulk, Thanos, etc.

Lots of negative comments on the Mojo MB.... will you still purchase him if he does wind up exactly as the sneak pics?

HA! No, I actually didn't buy the place until 12/2 and move in until 12/6. Then I was gone for 2 weeks over Christmas, so I'm really just getting into the fun stuff.

The good news is, that last night I put away about 200 books, organized some long boxes, and then stacked up all 40 of my wooden cubes! I'll soon end up putting some more books I've read in them, but then I can FINALLY get into setting up some bookshelves and detolfs.

For the most part, CM's line is very well done. I have the Black Cat and a Kabuki statue, but that one was actually by the Shiflett brothers. I got a chance to meet them in SD in '07. They signed some stuff for me too! :)

The 1 area of BD that I try to stay away from is X-men. I had a few and sold them. The only X-characters that I have are villains and the Jean FS water base. I just LOVE that costume! So I probably won't get the Mojo, as I have no real love for that character.

I think the flack Randy's getting about it kinda bites.. I mean.. if it had arms and such it's be more $ than a FS, and if it was a FS, it'd be over $300.

Can't make everyone happy...

Congrats!

The last we heard it was getting tweaked a bit. They've got pieces up that are coming out all the way through the summer, so if Bi-Beast is still en route it won't be for a while.

A big part is the contract. It supposedly runs out at about the end of 2009, beginning of 2010. Bowen is trying to get an extenstion on this phase because Marvel messed them up in getting back to them so late. BD was forced to scramble to fill the quota they have to fill in selling certain # of items.

That said, now they are working on more pieces than they can sell in this phase! So long story short.... if we don't see something up that we've seen sneaks for it will most likely happen in the next phase. This is what's happening with the Squadron Supreme characters.

FYI - I just ordered JACK OF HEARTS and passed on Ringmaster, although I'll hunt for him on ebay later on. I just can't front all that $. Plus he's not cheap. I had to do the same with the TARANTULA, which I'm hunting down now.

You are correct sir! The Bronzed Daredevil just shipped out too. Yeah, he's doing this a LOT because these characters are on his list for this phaze, and he's only got 19 months to do 24 months worth of FS's and MB's, so this saves time.

The Devil Dino was either a BDCC exclusive or a website exclusive. I forget, but there was only 500 made. That's why I joined the club! :)

Yeah, just saw the painted RULK today.... I always thought this piece would be defined by the paint & I never thought a Red Hulk would look great.... I stand corrected..... this just went from "easy pass" to "now considering" for me..... still my first choice is the Planet Hulk & seeing how big the shield and the mace is, I'm betting it'll hit the $275-$300 price point in which case there is no way I can afford the Rulk.

Yeah, there's 5 detolfs and I could use a 6th easily. Not sure where it'd go, but I want it! I collect more MB's because of the $$$ and the space. If FS's were $50 a piece and I could put 6 on a shelf I'd collect them too, but it's just not feasible. I'll be getting a Ms. Marvel and Ann. Nova FS though. Those are my next 2. I do have a bunch more FS's, and I'll be putting them up soon.

And you will LOVE Odin. Just make sure to be careful. He's heavy and has a lotta parts.

It's getting tough. Statue prices are getting higher because they are getting bigger, comics are getting more expensive too, and it's making it tough to get what I want. I didn't order the Tarantula, but I just won one off of ebay for $30 shipped. That's the route i'm going to be going with a lot of these new Bowen ones.

I did just order the retro Ms Marvel FS and the Red Wolf MB. I know I want the Man-Ape and retro Wonder Man, but I've got a tad bit of a space issue and the $$$ for all of that is insaneo. I'd rather spread that cost out.

I'm still looking for a cheap WW2 Bucky, FS Marvel Girl, and Cloak & Dagger.

Nope! No FS Medusa for me. I'm not really a FS guy for size, space, & $ reasons. It seems hit and miss, but mostly ok on the eyes for that statue.

I just got in a PIXIE kit and my ROCKSLIDE is being sent to a painter as we speak! She's sooooo cool. I'll have to get her painted soon. My New X-Men set is really shaping up!

Have you guys ever seen an unpainted kit before? I may be able to take some pics if you're interested.

MANGOG - Friggin' unreal! This dude is so massive. I put him in my corner curio, but he'll have to get moved like a FS. He's just massivly imposing!!!

Jack Of Hearts - Very cool. The dark blue is a tad too dark, but he still looks cool. Love the chrome-ish shine he has

Tarantula - won him for $30 shipped on the bay. He's tall! The base is black at the bottom, but blue-ish on the long spiked part. He's dead on, so no complaints here.

I've got them all in the cabinets too. More pics to follow....

Thanks, but I think you mean my Kabuki statue. It's sculpted by the Shifletts and produced by Clayburne Moore. This is from their site:

It's actually one of the earlies statues I got. The chain is real, and slides in and out of her hands. Ever read Kabuki? You GOTTA check out the 1st collection, "Circle of Blood."
Keep an eye on her ankles. Mine are showing serious stress fractures to the point where I left her in the box when we moved two years ago.

Ooooooooo......... that's no good. However on mine, the sickle is "supposed" to be more curved, and at some point (I have no idea when) a guess a piece of the sickle came off below the hand at the bottom. So, mine is damaged but I love it and it's not going anywhere.

Side note - I met the Shiflett Bros. in SDCC and they not only signed some stuff for me, but signed and gave me a photo of that statue.

They sell. When the make 4 Spideys it enables them to do stuff that may not sell as well, like Super Skrull and MB's like Ulik and others. They made a Devil Dino man! :)

Anyway, you get the idea....

But that's partly why the bronzes are so limited and hig cost.

I like the 90's Jean Grey they did a ton. I can't afford anything right now of course, but I'd love to see a 90's x-men series. Like Cyclops, Colossus, Psylocke, etc.

Well... they did just make the Jim Lee style Cyke MB. So there's that. And there is a Beast in that style too. Iceman is pretty much Iceman, so that's a bunch of the team right there. Throw in a Wolvie, Gambit & Rogue and you're pretty good. Most people are also asking for a Prof X in a wheelchair, but we'll see.

I think that BD will more than likely make old school ones next. However... Angel is coming.... ;)

Plans? Sure. But he keeps most of his plans close to the vest because if he says he's gonna do one other companies will do one too. At this point, he's waiting on an contract extension from Marvel to be able to do anything new. His current one is over at the end of the year (that's items need to be solicited by Dec 2009) so I doube we'd see a Sandman before then - but you never know.

However we MAY get the FS Electro by then. He's re-working the head now....

He needs to make this one. The best statue I've ever seen. It's by Mark Newman, who sculpted the modern Luke Cage recently for Bowen. This statue was never produced for retail sale. I have a bad need to own this.

UPDATE!!! ROCKSLIDE IS HERE!!!

Just got him on Friday, and he's BEAUTIFUL! Jon did a wonderful job on this guy. I'm not sure if you'll be able to see all the detail with the paint specks. He really looks like he's made of a bunch of rocks or asphalt of something. Plus the lava on the cracked stone base is shiny and cool!

I also finally got my greedy paws on a POLARIS and a Cloak & Dagger bust! C&D is huge and so cool! Polaris is tall too. She looks a tad bit weird next to Magneto, but whatever. :)

Nope! The HF was a totally new piece. The sculptor has a "generic man" that is a basic sculpt with no features. So he just takes that and makes it into whoever he wants. The cape gave him a few fits, but he got some help with it. The cane slides in and out of his hand too, which is cool.

Pretty much, yeah. I saw a Nightcrawler bust and had to have it. Look....we all loved action figs as kids, but as you get older you stop playing with them even though you love 'em. But, you still WANT them. hence statues. You start small and then it takes the life that you want it to. Ususally slowly and like all hobbys it escilates to the insanity that we all know. Ya know? :)

It was a lucky buy. The vendor said he'd bought a full lot of he-man, transformers, and gi-joe merchandise and the evil-lynn was all he had left. I took it for $15!!!

yeah, F/S prices need to come down by at least $25. I'd love to get my hands on an old Mysterio f/s, but damn..costly.

SCORE! Just pay attention to ebay. Stuff falls through the cracks. Also, Bing.com usually has deals where if you search for "bowen statue" and clilch through to ebay auctions you'll be eligible for certain % off. It really helps with large ticket items. I got $50 off on my Ant-Man MB.

Honestly, I really only want a bunch of the newer MB's. The FS may be cool, but I've got no space for 'em.

I feel your pain - I'm currently setting up the basement and trying to lay it out to maximize the space - with the Eaglemoss Collections already up to 180 for Marvel and 80 for DC and both looking to go to another extension as well as about 70 Bowen pieces.

I'm currently playing with numerous layouts but it's gonna be tricky

Thanks Jamie. With my buying a new condo occupying most of the 1st half of the year, this completely slipped between the cracks. I wonder if my LCS misplaced my order. That would be ok as that would be the 1st time they missed a pre-ordered item on my part.

Of course, I still have to shop at IKEA for the display cases for the MBs. It may have to go in my office space.

That's a shame - they are really gorgeous and have such a wonderful nostalgic feel to them - reminds me of how disappointed I was when Sota Toys did not go through with the pewter X-Men chess set after the Spider-Man. Fingers crossed they go forward for ya!

With my dsicount, MOck will be about $64 - kinda expensive, but yeah... I want one. There are sneaks out there of a new Hawkeye - but FS.

Got my Paladin back awhile ago (with Master, Guardsman, Sasquatch and Jack O Lantern) - love the character and love the piece.

I wanted Foolkiller and even was waiting to get him and Force together but never heard back from him

I've already got my eye on Solo :smile:

This week... picked up the SATANA Bowen MB! ;) #200 / 700 too. Looks great, love the red paint.

I've also, since last posting, picked up 4-5 of the Shyuna Yamashita MB's. I had 2 of them, and now I only need 2 to complete the set! Sample pic:

Hellstorm is killer... but I haven't tracked one down yet. I just refused to pay what it was going for. I'll get one eventually.

I have a DST Thanos FS, and I'm happy with it but the new FS's and MB's are killer. Mock isn't bad, but I passed as well. If a kit is made by a certain someone I know I'll go for that.

Ok... since March I got in my Enchantress MB which I am quite happy with. Then my Planet Hulk MB, #90!, finally arrived!

Then I just got allocated on my MODOK statue! :( But I think I'll still end up with one, it may just cost a few $'s more.

I don't know if I had posted this, but I also have all but 2 of the Yamishita MB's: Shii and Angela!

Congatulations! I've been into the Bowen Designs mini-busts since the very beginning. It's about freakin' time they made the Blazing Skull bust!

Recently picked up Bowen's Executioner. I highly recommend it! He's HUGE! I wanted him to go next to my Enchantress. I also reserved a Hellstrom that I'll be getting in a few weeks. That one is getting harder to find at a decent price. Should have pre-ordered it.

Recently got back to this hobby after taking some time off due to the escalating prices.... Now am trying to find a MODOK statue and a Beta Ray Bill FS statue. Looks like the lowest MSRP for FS statues is now $200 which kinda sucks.

Pupknface.... any pics of your collection? Are you getting the FS Action Thor that's currently being solicited?

I'll be passing on that Thor FS, but it is damn cool. I'm pretty low on space so I try to stick to the MB's. I'm actually missing a standard Thor MB, as I only have the battle armor one. I did order and get hosed on a MODOK, but at least I saved some $. Maybe one will turn up in the future.

Also - I have on hold with a friend and need to pick up from him these 3 MB's: Zombie, Hellstrom, Air Walker! :biggrin:

The only statue I have on order is the Iron Spider MB from Bowen. I have 3-4 other kits being made, and after that I've got another handful that need to get done. Which reminds me... I've got some old Bowen MB's to sell!

Great pics! I also use a Detolf to display my statues but currently I only have 3 of them and have run out of space. I may expand to 5 but that means moving them all to a different wall. What's the story with the MODOK statue? I haven't seen one at a decent price on the bay. How did you get the SS chrome? That's my holy Grail.

The deal w/ MODOK is that it was a Diamond exclusive, so you could only order one through them, and it was limited to (supposedly) 500. They ended up making like 650 and people - like me! - got allocated, aka: HOSED! So there's a huge demand. It retailed at $230 I think, so if you get it for retail, just be happy.

My key to getting the SS Chrome was easy - I'm in the BDCC and I preordered it waaaaaaaaaay back then. I've had it since day 1. I think it's #80. If you want, email me and I'll put you in touch with a guy who may have one.

As luck would have it, my 2 kits arrived yesterday! my Paladin and Arsenal kits look cool! No time for pics yesterday, but I'll get some later on this week. Just wait for the Death Stalker and Razorback! :cool:
