Horribly busy weekend. Filler column, honestly. I'm bringing back the column I started on this message board back in June about comics columnists and their books. Hopefully, I'll finish it off properly. You'll see what I mean on Tuesday.
Thanks,
-Augie

Had to throw this somewhere...
MADMAN LANDS @ IMAGE - MADMAN GARGANTUA ANNOUNCED
http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=91654
He’s been here, there, and (almost literally) everywhere, and in February, Mike Allred’s Madman will find a new home at Image Comics. The new partnership between the creator and publisher will kick off with Madman Gargantua!, an 852 page, full color hardcover that collects every Madman story from Madman, Madman Adventures, Madman Comics, the Madman Super King-Size Groovy Special and a load of additional material.

So I decided to take a trip down memory lane and read the archived columns that you linked to this week. I found these bits interesting:
From Pipeline #104:
I think THE FLASH's "Chain Lightning" storyline is like STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE. I believe STAR WARS: TPM will look a lot better once people see the next chapter or two and realize everything the first movie was setting up.
Looking back do you think that TPM is better now that AOTC & ROTS have been released? I am an old school Star Wars fan, but even I have had trouble re-watching those films.
Finally, with Kurt Busiek officially announcing he's leaving THUNDERBOLTS and looking at doing more creator-owned work, is there anyone left who can seriously call the BULLDOG rumor a fanciful lie of Rich Johnston's imagination? I've been meaning to write a full column explaining why I think the rumor makes sense, but I think we've gotten to the point where the story is so obviously coming true, that it would be redundant of me to fully outline the case anymore. I'm looking forward to the official announcement, whenever it comes. (I'm hoping for San Diego, so I can be there for it. =)Did this eventually morph into Gorilla comics? By the way, the bits in the latest podcast with Todd Dezago about Marvel bankruptcy and Gorilla comics made for interesting listening.
I never finished reading the Larsen written Wolverine books. Found the Jeff Matsuda art horrible and couldn't hold out for Leinil Yu to come on board. One of these days I may have to track down these issues and the Aquaman ones he wrote.

I tried to re-watch TMP after seeing ROTS when it came out. And no, it's even worse that I thought it was the 1st time. I really thought it was just ok the 1st time I watched it, but now it's easily the worst of the 6 movies. But maybe it's just me...

It's not just you...TPM is shite! :D

No, it was always Gorilla Comics. Rich simply had it wrong, including the name, the claim that we were a writer-focused imprint and the names of some of the people involved.

Kurt - WoW... that was a heck of a fast reply! Thanks Kurt! :D
Trip - Yeah, there's like a 45 minute gap in that movie where it's like a black hole and it puts you to sleep. Some of the acting is sooooo bad too. I liked Darth Maul as much as the next guy, but that was just a weak flick. :(

Double WOW! The facts straight from the horse's mouth. Thanks Kurt!

Thanks, Kurt.
Rich still did a better job reporting on Gorilla's creation than WIZARD did in prematurely announcing its demise. One didn't hurt any sales, the other -- well, I'll let others come to their own conclusions.

Oops, didn't mean to avoid this one. Sorry, Trip, but here we go now:
Looking back do you think that TPM is better now that AOTC & ROTS have been released? I am an old school Star Wars fan, but even I have had trouble re-watching those films.
I think TPM looks like a slightly better film in light of the two follow-ups, but not nearly to the degree that was needed to make it into a good film. I hope that makes sense.
I need to devote some space in the column to looking back at previous columns. Maybe a "This Week Five Years Ago" or something. It would add something new and different to the column.
Which reminds me -- time to start writing about PREVIEWS! ;-)

I think both hurt sales, but one certainly far more than the other.
