View Full Version : Wii were robbed!
Not literaly, but i can't resist the pun.
My girlfriend, who suddenly decided despite the fact she doesn't like videogames, HAD to play the new zelda game, and wanted to line up to buy a Wii.
She was going to buy me one for my birthday at the end of the month, and she was still paying, so i had no problem going somewhere after work. I get off at 10, figured "eh, two hour wait, that ain't too awful, i've never done it before, might be fun." Best Buy, toys r us, all local video game stores, gamestop, etc, weren't doing a midnight opening thing.
So, i drive to walmart, where i see a line outside. First off, why the hell did they make people wait outside? It's Walmart, the store is huge, and it's cold out. The Walmart guy informs us, before we lined up, they only had 29 units availble, and there are 40 people in line.
So, we try the other Walmart, and see only 20 people, yay!
After an hour, a walmart guy comes out, and tells us they are only getting 20.
BOO!
Why, on the launch of a system thats been getting insane press coverage, would the nationals largest retailor only have 20? Well, i asked another walmart worker, who i happent o know, and he told me "Actually, we have more then 20, but we can only sell 20 at midnight."
So i waited an hour for nothing....4 million units shipped didn't help me at all.

That's crap. What idiotic reason was there for such a limit?
You should be playing the Wii right now. Stupid Wally-World.

That's funny, I also failed to get a Wii despite my girlfriend's encouragement. I didn't have to wait, though, at the stores I went to they just told me at the door that they weren't going to have enough.
I hope they'll get some more before Thanksgiving break.

I bet the reason is that Wal-Mart plans to put it in one of their upcoming "ads" so wanted to have a few to keep in-stock for when said ad comes out.
Yes, it's still idiotic, but stores have been known to hold back on items that are on their upcoming "plan-o-gram" or whatnot.

Are more Wii shipments arriving at any specific time, or just randomly until the end of the year?

I don't think anything is guaranteed, though I am sure there will be future shipments.
My boyfriend is in a plane outside of our reality right now; he wont stop playing Zelda/the Wii. Not even for... mii. :(

I live in Juneau, Alaska. Only one store, (Fred Meyers) was even getting Wii on launch. The only other store that will sell it in the future is Costco, and I refuse to buy a bundle. There was a midnight launch party at our local store, but since my roomies and I don't have a car, we skipped that. I phoned at 6AM to see if they had any left in stock, they had 8. We called for a cab, got there at a quarter to seven, rushed in with a bunch of high school aged kids, and picked up the second to last Wii. Turns out, three of the eight had been water damaged do to the big storm here. It is so snowy outside, that you can't even see the mountains from the highway, and we live in a valley at sea level. We are only a city of 35k, but our store got sixty Wiis. SIXTY! I don't know if there is supposed to be a limit for retailers at launch, but Walmart only getting twenty seems peculiar. The downside, unfortunately, was that they had only a few games, (Fred Meyer often does this) and no nunchuck controllers. I picked up a Wii, one extra Wiimote, a 1 gig memory card, Zelda and Monkey Ball. The only other games they had were Rayman, (which I decided not to get after looking at the package), Grand Turismo, that excite truck game, Sponge Bob, Dragon Ball and I think that was it. Slim pickings. However, I am pleased to say that while the games are over simplified, Wii Sports and Monkey Ball have EXCELLENT mini-games for making use of the new controller. We have been playing since eight AM, and I am very pleased with my purchase. I absolutely love the remote controller. I'm so sorry to hear about you folks that couldn't snag one, they are supposed to be all over the place. A guy did offer me 500 for my Wii while we were waiting for the bus home, but after chilling in the snow for an hour and getting up at 5:30, I turned him down.

I'm a big PC gamer. But why is that "one more reason" why you're "switching?" PC gaming is the best experience there is, but it's also the most expensive, (by far) and the most frustrating, although probably the most rewarding.
About the Wii launch- there is no shortage, with only a little bit of planning, most people should have been able to secure one. This isn't the PS3 launch.

Second reason: Crysis
Third reason: I need a hobby.

Second reason: Crysis
And that's all that needs to be said really. Have you seen the trailers yet? It looks orgasmic.
Third reason: I need a hobby.
That's part of what I like about PC gaming, selecting your own hardware, building it and coaxing every last bit of performance out of it is a hobby in itself.

And yes, by "hobby" I do mean building and upgrading a PC of my very own. How did you know? Anyway, we both agree that Crysis is gonna pimp 2007. And I just figured out that you dont have to be rich in order to afford a high-end PC............ as long you dont plan on buying other nice things in your life that is. I'm gonna buy everything cheap when I'm on my own with a $9 per hour salary, and I'm only gonna spend a great deal of cash on hardware and internet. If I can do just that, I'll be in heaven. I dont care about anything else.

And that's the problem with PC gaming. I'm not saying that it's wrong but the thing is selecting your own hardware now a days is getting harder and harder. I should now I used to work at a tech shop. I use to put PCs together.:( By the time I was done with that job I never wanted to touch another PC again. Maybe that's why I like macs now.

Jobs tend to make things less fun anyways. When something becomes your source of income, it no longer becomes novel and entertaining.

Actually almost every Wal-Mart in the country only got 20 Wii's. The reason some wouldn't sell all of the ones that they got is in case somebody had to return theirs for some reason.

And it has been mentioned elsewhere on this board. Repeatedly.
theres no need for bold ominous red lettersThe "bold ominous red letters" (i.e. my 'mod voice') serves two functions; 1) to catch people's attention, and 2) to let people know that I'm giving an official mod warning (as oppossed to me just shooting off my mouth).
As long as you don't do it again, there's no problem. Carry on.

My Birthday is Tuesday, Lauren made another attempt at getting a Wii, and at two places she went (Gamestop and Walmart, again) she got this.
Lauren: Do you guys know when you will be getting more nintendo Wii's in?
Walmart and Gamestop response: Hahahaha...no.

i have all but given up.
I had no problem getting my wii. My girlfriend works at Target and told me that they were getting a shipment last sunday. I went around 30 minutes before the store opened and got one. The only problem was getting a second remote. Target was sold out. So I went to Toys R Us a couple days later and there were quite a few remotes and more than 10 wii's. I was surprised to say the least. It was around 6pm too.
