Saturday Nov. 18, Meltdown Comics rolls out the red carpet for Eisner nominated cartoonist Paige Braddock in a rare in-store appearance, as the store celebrates the release of Volume 6 of Jane’s World, the comic novel authored and drawn by Braddock.

The free evening event, hosted by Mighty Fine, which begins at 7 p.m., will feature a book signing by the cartoonist, music by DJ Gee, cocktails and snacks.

"Jane’s World is a graphic novel, best described as a smart ensemble comedy, blending the classic comic strip style of Lynn Johnston with the racier writing style of shows like 'Sex and the City' and 'Friends.' Jane is the lesbian heir to the hard-luck Charlie Brown, somehow always winding up as the punch line in her own comic book." – Randy Lander, The 4th Rail

Although lesbian-themed, Jane’s World draws a diverse readership, popular with male and female readers alike. Instead of focusing solely on gay and lesbian issues, the comics focus on the issues of everyday life in the world of main character Jane Wyatt, a junk-food eating androgynous woman with a complicated circle of friends and family.

This is how the Jane’s World creator intends it. “In a perfect world,” Braddock says, “everybody would just be who they are. They would just deal with common problems like rent and work and love.”

Since Jane’s inception as a comic strip in 1996, the comics have continued to gain loyal fans, and have been translated into French, Spanish, and Italian.
