Wow, that's some awesome stuff!
I know you're marketing a comic, but have you also considered contacting Cartoon Network? Your comic might make a nifty new series for them... and the style you're doing it in would work for them, IMO.
I think my favorite pic was the Ant, though. :D Love the realism, love the pose and the creative character.

Very nice stuff Jett! I love the cartoony style, and I agree with Solaris- you should be contacting CN immediately. I know I'd watch a show based off the dragon guy in jeans and cape, and both my kids saw your stuff this morning and flipped out. My oldest (8) wants to know if there's a comic out, what his powers are, if there's a video game, etc. *grins*
Please post more!

Damn...
This is really some cool stuff. I freakin' love it. I was particularly impressed by the Tetsuo drawing. It's been a while since I last watched Akira. The landscape was awesome, too, and The Venom/ Batman one, and, and...

Wow, thank you all so much!
I just recently joined this forum after linking here repeatedly for previews and interviews....
These pieces are stuff I have posted at other boards for the past couple years.
I really appreciate all yu kind words! Catoon Network, huh? That seems like it would be a hard nut to crack, but then again, Ive never tried....
Actually I illustrated 3 Alaskan Native children books in semi-comic book format a few years ago, and recently a local filmaker up here ( I live in Alaska) approached me about wanting to make a cartoon film based off the stories! Plans are that I will be moving to Seattle here within the next couple of months to begin working on developing it with a team of animators!
So exciting....hopefully along the way I could make contacts, and that Cartoon Network idea may not seem so difficult!
Once again, you are all too nice!

That's it.
I'm packing up the studio and calling it quits. This stuff is just way too good.
Which of these is the more recent material? You mentioned this is stuff you've been posting for a while; I can kinda see a progression but I'd like to be able to nail it down.
Are you using a Wacom for inking?
Your work just screams energy.

Thanks guys!
Yeah, the animation opportunity in Seattle is SO AWSOME....not bad for an 'Art Institute of Seattle' dropout..hahahah. Will definitely keep you updated when it gets going!
Tattoos? Nah...Ive tried a few times, but I'm WAY too critical of myself to commit my art permanently to someones body....
Don't quit DocAbsurd!!!
I ink with Micron drafting pens, but a few of those were colored in Photoshop with the help of my Wacom tablet.
As for the newer stuff....um, the very first image posted is the MOST recent....just something fun I whipped up for Erik Larseen's art thread over at the Image boards....older stuff would be the crazy Bass fish getting caught with the lazer speakers by the girl on he keyboard...anyways...there all kinda mixed up....

Jettison. Your work is ridiculously good. If I may ask a stylistic question. What reference material do you use? If you use any that is.
Also, what medium do you prefer? Do you like working digitally better, or just good ol' paper and pencil? Personally I'm still trying to wrap my head around digital color at this point. I'm still learning the ropes in that respect.
Jettison
11-18-2006, 03:32 PM
Hey Max, thanks for showing interest -
Refrence? Well, moostly comic books....I bought Burt Hogarth's 'Dynamic Anatomy', and although I havn't studies it ENTIRELY, but what I have studied has been invaluable in terms of crafting the human form.
I draw in pencil and ink all traditionally, and I may clean up a little in Photoshop....but all my line work is done by hand....I color it all in Photoshop though.
The ONE most important thing I picked up at Art Institute of Seattle were the Photoshop techniques. Basically once youve figured out how to place your line art on one layer, and the color on a layer beneath it, your gold.
nooo cartoon network isn't the way..the way isn't workin for me (notice how I put for) as you work in a lil cage an draw for me to make millions off.buahahahaha..but on the real, you wouldn't happen to wanna do anytin with a writer...and say collaborate a awesome...comic...to lets say...submit to a publishing ting...and make...millions..:P

11-18-2006, 05:40 PM

heheh....thanks, but I should really concentrate on this project first....its my baby...my characters, and my cousin is scripting the story we came up with....sort of the most important thing in my life at the moment. But its nice to know there are others interested in working with me!

Heres something I did for a contest over at penciljack.com.....I am most proud because I finished the pencils/inks in one day, and the colors the next....it could have been quicker had I not worked both days.....
Anyways, what do you think? The guy flying is Mighty Man, and the retro dude that gets goosed is Flash Mercury - both characters are from Erik Larsen's SAVAGE DRAGON.

Hey cool! Do you mean that this was done with a cintique? I am trying to justify the purchase.... how happy are you with it?
Jettison
03-01-2008, 11:08 AM
The Cintiq is f-ing amazing.....the upsides of it are, if you are crunched for deadlines (like I was with that Buzzard/Old Man Coyote story), you can really get work done fast. I sketched those pages in pencil, and the rest was done on the cintiq.....
Some of the downsides are, the screen is very large, and putting it in your lap is almost impossible.....it stands fairly high off the desktop as well, so its not like you can just draw on the surface like if you were drawing on a table....its raised up.....so when its propped up, its like drawing on an easle, but there are times when you wish it was flush with the table top so you could get that same feeling.....Ive heard some people complain about the screen getting hot, and your hand sweat sticking to it, but there are these nifty little drawing gloves that fix that, search smudgeguard....they are also useful for pencilling against smudging the lead on your page.
I'd reccomend testing one if possible, and also try checking out the new, smaller one they just released....I would like to try one out, they look really lap-friendly, and you can take it with you places.
hope that helps a little.

Nahani the Beast Man
The indigenous people of Alaska’s rugged interior tell legends of Nahani or ‘The One With Backwards Feet’ who would abduct folk who wandered too close to it’s territory. The tracks left behind would appear as double feet making it impossible to determine the actual direction the creature was moving. Nahani travels swiftly and silently through the deep underbrush, but on dark nights, his blood curdling howls can be heard from miles off.

Carapace
In crustaceans, the carapace is a part of the exoskeleton that covers the cephalothorax. It is particularly well developed in lobsters and crabs. It functions as a protective cover over the cephalothorax. Where it projects forward beyond the eyes, this projection is called a rostrum. The carapace is calcified to varying degrees in different crustaceans.

Entered this in an art jam over at Satellite Soda (http://satellitesoda.com/phpBB2/index.php). Its a 'Design your own Street Fighter' competition......

Tundra:
This dude is a peaceful shepard of the icy northern regions of Alaska.....he migrates with the herds of Caribou, and protects them from the encroachment of the oil industry. Living alone, nomadic, and exhibiting signs of supernatural abilities, TUNDRA only occasionally makes contact with other people, but his peaceful nature and selfless acts of kindness are legendary among the tribes of Alaska. When Shadoloo begins developing an arctic base of operations, and disregards the environmental impact of their massive project, Tundra is forced to intervene and defend the harmony of the land. After beating the crap out of a bunch of Shadoloo operatives, M. Bison takes notice and invites him to enter the Street Fighter competition. Tundra agrees only for the chance to draw attention to the dire state of the rapidly declining ecosystem of the arctic.
I could see Dhalsim and Tundra being allies.
