people say I can't sing, it's kind of like
insulting God."

This is why I don't get as up in arms about some of the stuff Fergie and Black Eyed Peas do now, 'cause a lot of it is reminiscent of stuff that was popular in the 80s. It's throwback music. I very much enjoyed seeing them live once, when they opened for N.E.R.D.
Some of the songs do get on my nerves, though. "My Humps" fills me with nothing but hatred, if only for the fact that the lyrics or ridiculously unimaginative.

She pees on herself. Onstage. In front of thousands.
Trashy and gross. For being 30, minus airbrush, shes seriously hit in the face.. I'm sure with a bag over her head many might like her more.

Not this one. She's distinctly unappealing from my aesthetic standpoint. I don't dig the man-face she's equipped with.

Awesome.
More for the rest of us.
Seriously. The Peas make good dance music. It's not meant to stand the test of time. Sure some of the lyrics are dumb, often those that are Fergie-specific- but, 1) the girl can actually SING and 2)she and they put ona great show.
don't hate. participate.

If anyone remembers JJ Fad's Supersonic, it lays down perfect with Fergalicious.
They ripped that song for the beat. Hell - the lyrics fit too. Its the same song really.
Supersonic motivating rhymes are creating
And everybody knows that J.J. Fad is devastating

I'm sure the gals from JJ Fad (or, more likely, their producers) were well paid for the Supersonic beats.
Jus as the procuders of "Tipsy" were well paid for London Bridge. This sort of thing is very common in rap music.

Not only do I not understand this stuff, I don't think it's possible to.
I deal with this stuff every day from my hip-hop and pop loving students. Even they can't explain it to me without using other slang that has no explanation.
It's crap, pure and simple. And hip-hop and rap men are never going to stop denigrating men until the women stop making themselves sound like they are not good for anything unless they have a milkshake that brings all the boys or lovely lady lumps . . .

Hip Pop and Hip Hop are not interchangeable.
I suggest you either step back and relax about the fad your kids are following or check out the wide variety of work offered under the true Hip Hop banner.
There's a LOT more out there than gangster rap and anti-female rhetoric. I don't judge rock and roll by white supremecist thrash bands. You shouldn't judge Hip Hop by the crap that gets delivered through MTV.
First assignment: find and enjoy the fantastic work of Mos Def. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Like her voice, like her looks. "My Humps" may be stupid but she sells it.
Honestly, it's not like stupid songs are either recent or bad. The history of rock and roll is built on silly nonsense like "Louie Louie" and "Dirty Bird".

Hip Pop and Hip Hop are not interchangeable.
I was referring specifically to the examples offered - "Fergalicious" and "My Humps".
First assignment: find and enjoy the fantastic work of Mos Def. You will be pleasantly surprised.
1. I would not doubt that, as I am already a Mos Def fan.
2. I don't watch MTV. In the interest of learning what my students like and how to relate to them, I do occasionally watch BET.
3. There are, indeed, many examples of non-misogynistic hip-hop music. However, those are not the examples I hear incessantly quoted in the hallways and see incessantly scrawled on notebooks, lockers, and walls around me every day. Clearly, it is not the "good" stuff that is making the greatest impact on the teenagers I deal with.
4. Never, ever, give a teacher an assignment the Friday before Thanksgiving. ;) I am about to have a week off and just hearing the word "assignment" gives me the heebie-jeebies.

I remember sitting in a cafe in Amsterdam when the 'Lets get Retarded', chorus started booming out of the speakers. My friend opposite me started grinning like a loon.
It was a weird moment.
I've seen her on stage (I used to do security for concerts) - she can move alright. I wouldn't mind her so much if it weren't for the fact that they play her music 24/7 on the radio and I spend 8 hours everyday in a cramped office. Not very conducive.

I lost all interest her when I saw those pictures of the concert where she "relieved" her bladder in the middle of the concert. Now everytime I see her I cant cant help, but think that.
