Joe Benitez!
You might remember him as that Image comics penciler who penciled Weapon Zero. Who doesn't remember weapon Zero? He also penciled Top Cow's Darkness after Marc Sivestri left. You may even remember him from the Magdalena mini series(also from Top Cow). He just did a Wildstorm 6 issue called Wraithborn. I am a fan of Benitez but in these times of rising comic prices I just couldn't plunk down the cash for Wraithborn.
I like my favorite Image/Top Cow pencilers doing Marvel and DC characters ...and it is happening. Just look around, Tony Daniel(The Tenth) is on Teen Titans, Billy Tan(Tomb Raider) is on Uncanny X-Men, David Finch(Ascension) is on Moon Knight(was on New Avengers). Anyway, back in September Benitez did fill in pencils for Detective Comics #823. I loved his take on Batman! It was like seeing McFarlane on Spider-Man and Platt on Moon Knight for the first time! Today, I was surprised to see Joe Benitez did the art for Supergirl #11. I could have sworn Ian Churchill was solicited as the penciler.
I am the comic reader who collects by (favorite)penciler. If the comic happens to have a great story it’s a bonus. We all collect for different reasons. I get a kick out of the fact that more and more of my favorite artists are doing more DC and Marvel work. Keep it coming. J Scott Campbell on Spider-Man, Joe Madureira and Ed McGuinness on Ultimates, Humberto Ramos on Wolverine and X-Men(Bachalo is great too)..the list goes on!
