...they want to see what obscure characters are going to show up?
I mean, I'm enjoying CW, but then, I'm one of the people who has bought EVERY issue of every series that has Civil War stamped on it.
I agree that if I'd stuck to my original plan of just getting the main mini plus the crossovers that were in comics I was already getting, I probably wouldn't be enjoying it quite as much as I am. I mean, the main mini itself, as a stand alone, isn't very well put together. You need to read all the other comics to get the story.
I think I've only stuck with it so long (yes I plan to continue getting EVERY issue until this thing ends) is because I wanna see what B, C, or D-lister is gonna show up next.
I mean, I've loved all the unknowns (to a lot of ppl, anyway; I'm not one of them) that have shown up. Battlestar, Aegis, Prodigy, Slapstick, Prowler, Wildstreak, Howard the Duck, Damage Control etc etc I'm loving it!

Well, the ones that do show up seem to have suspiciously short life spans.

I hear ya I mean YA&RA didn't really have that much to do with the war directly but it was cool to see what they were doing during this whole thing. I would like to see some more of the other BCD listers come out even for a little bit. I also feel that since the YA&RA didn't have very much direct tie in with the war they could do a one shot deal with guys like Dr. Strange. I mean he dosne't want to take part but maybe a comic of him trying to reason with tony and to hear his toughts in depth and stuff. It's Dr. strange, ghost rider and the true Dare devil that will not have any thing to do with the war and I don't like that I love all 3 of them

That would be a silly reason to buy this. Especially if it was your only reason.

Well, the business goals of a crossover are several: Generate a big event that sells a lot of the main title. Get people to buy issues of ongoing series they normally don't, in hopes they'll continue them after it's over. Being a "big event" means it's more exciting since there are bigger fights, and maybe even something like a backup giant man gets killed off.
I haven't read any of the crossovers other than FF, which is only because I read that one regularly anyway. I read Thor, but that's been on hiatus. I read Hulk, but he's on his own planet now. I used to read Avengers when Thor was on it, but now not only is he not, but it's just a street level party now.
Can't say that B listers showing up is any kind of high priority in my book, I definately enjoy seeing a lot of them show up.
The thing about Civil War is that there's no much raw emotion occuring everywhere, you actually give a dam about just about everyone. I don't even recall the last time I saw Wildstreak, yet I'm cheering like crazy when she manages to escape.
One of the best end results of Civil War might be a few D list characters getting a second chance to shine in Marvel (especially if this whole Initiative thing works out like Stark wants it to, though there's no way I see that actually happening).

I am buying all of the civil war issues and sides, everything, because I like the story. But after it's over, I won't read HFH or YA or most of the tie ins that I didn't buy before.
In some ways you CAN avoid reading civil war...but not alot , like marvel adventures...and what if's are the only titles i can really think you could keep reading for spider-man as an example. But yeah most of the "core" titles are CW-ties ins =(
