I was putoff by a Batman analogue switching sides until I remembered Gruenwald's SQUADRON SUPREME. (I'm probably the only person alive who doesn't think of that miniseries when I think of the Squadron.)
Anybody else find that to be an interesting little nod on Millar's part to have this Nighthawk echo the actions of the Squadron's Nighthawk?

Gru's Squad will always be THE Squadron Supreme for me as well.
I noticed the Civil War parallel, but I think I enjoyed the way Squad was emulated to an extent in DC's Identity Crisis. The world's premier superheroes abusing their power of mind alteration to force both friend and foe to do their bidding... with Batman in complete opposition. It's a great theme then and now.
I think one of the biggest things I like about the Batman analogues is that they're almost always a renegade.

i didn't like Gruenwald's characters. the new ones are fun to read about, though. love the character redesigns; especially Nighthawk.
Nighthawk is really just a spy for Grandmaster anyways, so I'm not sure it really matters what side he was on.
