I'm reading Birds of Prey #100 FIRST!
seriously
I'm opening up the comic shipment tomorrow and the world is going on hold.

Without a doubt, Birds of Prey 100, this is my jumping off issue, but I'm curious to see how the new Birds interact with one another and I want to see the Black Canary backup tale. In fact I'll be writing an article about it for my colleges newspaper.

Civil War #5 (well. .skim, not read).
but that's ONLY because I'll buy BoP, and won't give Marvel (as homophobic as that company is) a penny of my money.
so I'll skim Civil War #5, then walk out w/ all of my DC, Image, and non-Marvel purchases.
and yes, my shop, Dragon's Lair, in Austin,Tx, knows exactly how I feel -- and has no problem w/ me reading, but not buying, Marvel books I was following prior to the "No Gay Lead Characters" bullshit they pulled.

Civil War #5, Iron Man #13 and New Avengers #25.
This is Marvel's oppurtunity to present Tony Stark's side of the equation and not make him look like a total scum-bag (which he pretty much has up to this point).
Although to be fair to Gail, BoP #100 is the only DC comic that I am picking up this week. (Of course, given that this is Gail's board, I won't be surprised by the number of people that will say BoP #100.)

Birds of Prey #100, although I save my favorite comics to read last. I just hope I can get a copy this week. My comic shop has been having problems with UPS.

I think some two minutes' hate is appropriate for you right now. And we thought the crimes of Goldstein & Snowball were bad!
OK, joke aside: Marvel's little PR stunt has nowhere near the attraction that Birds of Prey currently maintains---inertia?---for me. Despite the departure of Miss Lance from her title, I'm still marginally curious to see what's happening in that area. I will, however, get around to reading CW as well, probably after I read 52. I wonder what else is coming out tomorrow.

I'll read BOP first, but I read in reverse. Save the best for last, you know? :)

And watching them blow it is going to be so much fun.

Gee...posting that on a board where most of the posters are fans of Gail and/or BoP.
To be honest,i read the best books(ie the ones i am looking forward to) LAST.
Pretty sure both of those will be at the bottom of the pile. But i am still unhappy of Dinah not in the book, and that may be the reason i read it first, saving CW5 for last. I still have no clue WHY Batman,Superman, and Wonder Woman can be in multiple comics AND the JLA,but not Dinah. And no one really is talking directly about this.
Still hurts. And i have NO DOUBT that Meltzer is NOT going to carry over ANY of the plot issues of Dinah's new ward(? Daughter?) in his book. Or anyone else either, till Gail gets Dinah back.

I certainly wouldn't post this on the Civil War board.
Event comics are fine. I love some Civil War.
But I have been with Birds of Prey since the beginning. I have also watched Gail grow as a writer over the course of the series. (plus yabs, plus Deadpool, etc.)
These days 100 is a huge milestone for a series. Who would have thought a book about two women (one in a wheelchair) at a major publisher would have been so successful?
#100 should be a celebration. Make mine BoP!

Well, as I only buy two Marvel titles, I haven't been getting CW. My friend has, so I've been reading it. I find the whole thing ludicrous. So, I will flip through it, but that's about it. I still can't believe that the same guy who wrote "Red Son" is writing this. Anyway...
I often save the comic I am most looking forward to until last. So BoP #100 will definitely be last tomorrow. I read 52 first each week, though, because I cannot wait to find out what's happening.

To be fair, Meltzer has been done writing the 12 issues for some time now. So, there's no real way to pick up on things that have happened in the interim. He was done with the whole run before the first issue hit the stands.

I'll certainly have a look at BoP in the store (not read it - scout it). Might pick it up.
I'm not following Civil War, so the odds of me purchasing #5 over BoP #100 are pretty darned small.

Did you see the Civil War #5 preview that was briefly on popcultureshock?
Tony: It's only temporary.
(Fandom: WTF?! You just said in Amazing Spider-Man that it was permanent!)

I agree with everything you said. Unfortantely,Civil War IS more popular than Birds of Prey, and thus will outsell it. Easily.
My problem is that Birds of Prey for me is Black Cannary/Oracle or Black Cannary/Oracle/Huntress. I honestly do not mind substituting Huntress, but removing ,imho ,the LEAD character in a story from the story is a risky proposition at best, and could easily be a problem saleswise for this book(the only time i have ever seen a lead in a story removed and made better for it was Babylon 5,and i (still am) was a huge Sinclair fan).
I will continue to support Gail because i like her writing AND i like her(even thou she got lots of us YABieS killed on City of Heroes regularly). I just feel that alot of writers in comics lately are more interested in there own stories without realizing that the DC and the Marvel Universes(and all the subset universii in those) are a SHARED Storyform, and as such,it should be the WRITERS responsibility to either acknowledge the works that came before it(and thus insuring the Current writers work will be acknowledged by Future writers) or explain why those plot developments are not being used. Anything ELSE than that i feel is LAZY storytelling in a shared medium. The big Two universes of the last few years have suffered from lack of continuity. DC seems to constantly rewriting their history while Marvel has been constantly forgetting their history unless it involves Stan,Jack,Ditko,or a beloved comic book run(and i find this part mostly from 1990 on up,as the pre-90's books seemed to have a VERY good sense of continuity and cross-referencing).
Sorry for the rant,y'all. But this is how i feel.
Gail...I don't care if you have to club Meltzer unconcious and take Dinah back, but i will miss her not being written by you every month. Please take that as a compliment. Along with the fact YOU seem to acknowledge what OTHER writers do with characters in their books when using them in yours. It's why i enjoy reading your work.
Also ...to Gail...SPY SMASHER! You didn't forget me! =) THANK YOU!!!!

That must be a heck of a magical disguise. I don't think anyone wants to see Cam in fishnets, top hat, and tuxedo uppers.

If she gets back. I don't think in a story this big that all of the heroes are going to make it.
A choice between Birds of Prey #100 and Civil War #5?
Easy. One of a really good comic... and the other is Civil War.
(Thank you! I'll be here all week!)
Actually, I'm not buying Civil War, so the choice for me is just BoP.

I only read the Runaways/Young Avengers bit of Civil War, and that did me fine and dandy.

Yes, when Canary returns. Gail said "That said, Canary is still a big part of the heart of BoP and I would hope her leaving isn’t permanent. I don’t care for her as just another superhero among hundreds." So I will return, if Ragdoll lives in Secret Six I will pick up the arc witht he Six.

I dropped CW after the first issue because I just didn't care, so this isn't much of a choice for me.
But the new issue of BoP is the only reason I'm going to the comic shop today, because otherwise I won't be buying much this week. BoP is the only book where I always go to the shop the day a new issue comes out. Other stuff can wait a few days, or a week or more, but every month when the new BoP comes out, it's all I can do to not leave work early to go get it.
I didn't go to the shop last week because there were only about 2 things I wanted to buy, so I have to pick up Gen 13 #2, too. That'll probably be the 2nd thing I read today. Oh, wait, I think there's a new Astonishing X-Men today, so I'll probably read THAT after BoP (even though the current AXM storyline has been going on for so long that I forgot what was happening and stopped caring about it anyway ages ago). Then Gen 13.
I don't know how those of you who save your favorite books for last every week do it. I always read from favorite to least favorite, and have ever since I was a kid. If I have a new issue of BoP in my hands, there is no way I can read and pay attention to a bunch of other books and save BoP for last. I'd flick through them in a flash to get to the good stuff. When I have a new BoP, it's hard enough not to read it while stopped at stoplights on the way home!
