Check out Marvel's solicitations for February, as provided by our much beloved CBR: http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=8895
Amidst all the Marvel Heroes books is a Garth Ennis/Clayton Crain
Prequel to their last Ghost Rider outing: Road to Damnation.
YIKES! I don't know 'bout you folks, but I thought "Road to Damnation" pretty much summmed that book up. Ennis' GR was some of the worst comics I ever read.
Lets go beyond the regular "You don't have to read em'" and "You don't have to buy em'" arguments. You want books with characters you want to read about, you HAVE to buy the books when they come out, or "low sales" will axe the book.
The art was often impossible to read (Though his stuff on recent Spidey books has been much better.) It was monochromatic to the extreme.
The story was a Preacher retread, that hardly featured Ghost Rider at all. Boring. Each issue was stale, and clearly written for a trade paperback.
The solicitation descibed this new book as a prequel to the last "smash hit GHOST RIDER: ROAD TO DAMNATION!" Ugh! Then the desciption doesn't even mention Ghost rider.
-Sorry Marvel. Once bitten, twice shy...I'll just buy all the OTHER Ghost Rider products you have for me in February.;)

Though I'll admit the art was rather dark, I liked the mini.
Looking forward to this new one, too.

I for one loved the Ennis' Ghost Rider and thought the Crain art was absolutley beautiful. I cannot wait for this mini to come out.

Then what's the problem?

The problem is I like GOOD comics. I'm a writter and an Illustrator myself. I want good, entertaining books to push forward the medium, or at least be entertaining for 7 minutes. I literally thought Ennis's Ghost Rider were some of the poorest comics ever penned...
But I'm happy to see I'm in the minority. Lots of folks coming out to support the book. That's cool. I remember being on the boards at the time and reading many other disparaged fans, like myself.
I ain't gonna fan the flames, I thought more folks felt as I...but what do I know, I liked "Hammer Lane." I didn't like it as a Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider story, but I did like it as an elsworlds ghost rider story.

I don't think I will be getting it either and that is hard for me to do because I really like Ghost Rider. The first mini was alright but not for a Ghost Rider story since he was a second fiddle character in his own mini. I think the new ongoing is very good and is worth picking up if you like GR, but as for the new mini, I just don't know. I think Ennis is overhyped myself. Not that he is bad but just I dont think he was the best person for this job.

I also remember when it was discussed here and it got pretty heated. Some loved it, some hated it. Hammer Lane though I've rarely heard anything good about. The general opinion of it is that it was lousy.
Ennis may not have been the perfect fit for GR, but he managed to do more with the character than has been done by most previous attempts (refried Preacher is still beater than most things out there IMHO).

I enjoyed Road To Damnation, so I'm happy to see Crane and Ennis back on the character. I'm also very much enjoying the ongoing GR series.
If anything, it's a good time to be a GR fan. Finally, he's back and going strong. It could always be the opposite.

I never liked Ghost Rider.
Maybe if someone pitched the character to me and sounded competent, I'd give the Essentials a try.

Trail of Tears? Way to go, Marvel-just demean the deaths of thousands of Cherokees and other native Americans.

I like GR. I also think that Ennis' GR tale was okay, but not great (mostly because GR was useless and almost a cameo in his own series - though I really hope Miss Catmint shows up again. She was the only character I liked in the whole series).
However, this series might be good. It's a western, and I like westerns. We'll see.

I didn't like Ennis Ghost Rider mini but I'm going to pick up this mini. I'll take this over a Daniel Way written Ghost Rider.
