so, when the USPS raised the price of stamps AGAIN a while back, my partner and I thought

"we have all these useless stamps now, unless we go buy all those 2cent stamps to add to them!
Why doesn't the Post Office just issue a "blank" stamp, with no price and that way we can use them whatever the postage rate is ?"

well color us surprised, when the USPS issued the "Lady Liberty" stamp in just that way. . no price on it, just a lovely pic of the Statue of Liberty w/ a flag waving.

We tend to order our stamps in rolls of 100, so as we were nearing the end of the roll, Nick ordered a couple of more rolls online.

I opened one up tonight. . .and right there , on the bottom of the stamp, a big, fat, 39cents!

I called Nick over to show him. .and he said. . "maybe we just didn't notice it before?"

but I went to the desk and pulled out the last few from the previous roll, and showed him that the prior stamps we had ordered had no price on them.

again, I say. . greedy bastards!

After a while, we will have to stamp our emails. :(

How much did the non-priced Lady Liberties cost? Were they also 39 cents, just with no visible marker saying so?

If so, I don't see how putting the price on the stamp makes the post office greedy.

because when they raise the price AGAIN, as we all know will happen, the "priceless" stamp would be good to mail letters until we run out of the rolls we have bought.

the "priced" stamps mean we will have to shell out the difference for the new price of mailing letters.

Ah, I see your point. I had thought the post office would know when they sold the priceless stamps, and have them be only worth that much, even if there was a future price increase.

I agree with the greedy bastardness on their behalf though. Stamps have gone up 5 cents in the past what, like 5 years? It's getting to be pretty ridiculous.

I agree that they should just issue a 'priceless' stamp but the USPS doesn't actually set the price of their stamps. Congress sets sets how much money the USPS has to contribute to the budget which is reflected in the price of the postage.

And postal rates in the US is still one of the cheapest in the world.

Then I'm good. Um Bert you are just a little bit late with your thread. For forty cents you can mail any letter to anywhere in the US which I think is a good deal. Now boxes on the other hand are cheaper at UPS I think.
