Hi sorry I'm new to podcasts and I need some help being able to do podcasts. I want to do a podcast with my friend over the internet. What type of software do I need?.. I know how to do a single podcast using audacity but I want to know how me and my friend can chat or dispute and have it record or whatever else I need to do so both of us are on the same file and what not. Thanks for the help.:)

The way most podcasters do it is with a program called Skype that allows you to make phone calls, basically, either computer-to-computer or computer-to-phone. (The latter are free through the end of the year, but they might start charging by the minute for those again in 2007. We'll see.)

You'll need a plug-in with that to record it. That part depends on whether you're using a Mac or a PC, but it will likely cost you. I think the Call Recorder I used on my Mac was about $20, but well worth it. I don't know the name of the PC-based one, though. You'll have to Google for that.

Not that I know of, directly. There might be a more complicated way to work it but -- as a Mac guy -- I haven't looked too deeply into it.

On the other hand, it's rumored that the next update of Skype (3.0, I think) will include the functionality built in. I don't know how long before that's due out, though.
