View Full Version : Civil War 5- The Pro Registration Issue?

So, after reading the Wizard Article on CW, and looking at the list of CW tie ins set to release on the same day as CW5, I've come to the conclusion (or perhaps mad hope) that 5 is going to be a pro-registration issue.
According to Paul Jenkins, yes, the Pro-Reg side is Fascistic and they are making very bad decisions, but you have to keep reading- the “Motivation” behind the act is coming- and it’s something’s that will explain all (a sentiment echoed by Mr. Brevhort).
We've also been told from a number of sources (Including the Wizard Article) that CW5 features the unveiling of The Fifty State Initiative- the Program that got Reed Richards so excited in CW1, that Stark and Pym have been working on, and that we've heard precious little about.
At the same time, you have 2 tie-in issues devoted solely to exploring Tony Stark's POV on the Registration Act- Iron Man 13 and New Avengers 25.
So, given all this, will we actually see the Pro-Registration side in a positive light? Or will the motivation Jenkins refers to actually be world domination or something like that?

Isn't this the issue that has Green Goblin beating up Spider-Man on Iron Man's behalf?

The Thunderbolts take on Spidey. And odds are strong on The Punisher killing a D-list villain from #4.
But anyways, yes. I do believe Mark Millar claimed #5 would be an issue that would show the Pro-Reg side in a more positive light.

Yeah cause having Tony Starks rabid Dogs kick the shit out off the People's Champion Spiderman looks good in any light.

I'm so pumped for #5. They're gonna make the Punisher kill people for the Anti-Reg side I'm guessing but thats gonna make me like the Anti-Regs even more bwahahaha.
It's gonna be a failed attempt at making the Anti-Regs look "evil" to balance it out.

They're being very careful to keep this one under raps- all the more reason for me to belive somthing big will redeem alot of the Pro-Reg side's actions.

In the context of the Marvel Universe, Spider-Man is hardly the people's champion. The guy always seems to be wanted as a criminal for something or other.

I thought we've already seen each sides positive/negative points. To be frank, the pro side is the only one with a good point, in my opinion.
The Yay Side: Those damn superhumans running around playing hero putting innocent people in danger need to be controlled. What's not to like? A cushy government sponsorship, good dental insurance and actual money for saving the world now and then. I ask again: what the heck's not to like about that? Your family? Oh, don't worry. We'll get them locked up in this here fancy prison. Nothing's gonna get to 'em in there. Yup. *spits*
The Nay Side: We have, like, families and, y'know, they might get hurt... y'know? And this is all... uh... y'know, this is all bullshit. You're all, y'know, nazis. Not real nazis, y'know, but, uh, american nazis. Like american citizens who collect pokemon trading cards nazis, y'know?
(Yes, Miss Invisible Woman made me jump ship right when she jumped ship. Ain't that just freaking awesome?!!)

You know if they finally explain what is going one with the Pro side and there isn't any significant reaction from the civilian population from a logical stand point I'm going to be extremely disappointed with this series.
Sorry but Millar was the worst choice for main writer of this event. At least he should never have been allowed to do this by himself, he should have had a co-writer or two.
I also get the feeling that Tony is going to drag Peter's name so far and so deep in the mud it's going to be all but impossible for him to be seen as a respectable person in the public eye again without some serious magic or ignoring of events. I get the feeling he's going to be shit on like never before and Tony will lose no sleep over it.
Why don't they just turn him into a villian already. He already is one, just give the official name already and be done with it. I've never wanted Hulk to come back to Earth then I am at this moment. At least until #5 comes out and I'm pretty sure I'll want him back even more then or maybe even with that Nova and crew let the Annhilation wave hit Earth so it can start over.

I believe it was said that we will find much of the FSI etc revealed at the START of this issue. (With the bulk presumably being Spidey's defection and the Punisher versus the Thunderbolts.) That could explain the lack of previews- the start gives stuff away.
But yeah, apparantly from here on, CW focuses more on the pro-reg side, which is great. We're ALREADY looking good, so some more stuff can only help. I most laugh at the hypocrisy of three things (Not just in this thread):
-The sudden attempt by anti-reggers to portray the Punisher as a cuddly, fluffy bunny
-The sudden "Oh well it doesn't matter if your side kills lots of people. Cos they're villains, see?"
-The "SPider-Man: The PEOPLE'S CHAMPION, the HEROIC DEFENDER, the FANTASTIC CHARACTER'. Notice these people weren't calling him that BEFORE he swapped sides.

Even if their reasons were postive, they still are evil in my eyes, but I'll guess i have to see it to believe it. :(

Poor Jester.
Um...I mean...poor whichever villain from #4 who gets killed.
Seriously though, how awesome would it be if Jester survived the battle and Iron Man was shocked to see him return to base.
Jester: "Yeah, I can't believe I'm not dead either."

That would be funny.
I was remembering the Civil War #4 threads, where people asked who The Jester was. I wanted so badly to say "he's wormfood." (That sounds like a great name for a zombie super villain, by the way.)
Although I'm sure a large number of people are going to complain about Civil War #5, I just couldn't see any kind of arguement regarding The Punisher shooting The Jester... I mean, one of the Thunderbolts.
"The Punisher shot a bad guy."
"It's not like he hasn't done that since his very first appearance."

I don't think any of the books are necessarily suppossed to be PRO or ANTI. I think what we're seeing is just natural storytelling.
We know that Tony is up to SOMETHING... it's now time to reveal what that something is. It obviously won't be world domination or anything like that. It'll be something with a fairly noble end, only exectued by some immoral means. By design, none of this can be black and white.

Yeah, I'm not really getting that "WITH ISSUE #5 ALL PRO-REGISTRATION HEROES WILL BE REDEEMED!" vibe, whatever happens happens.
I'm just interested in seeing where things go from here on Spider-Man's end and Tony Stark's grand plan.

It'll be shown in Iron Mans own book. But I'm afraid to say Bendis however has an agenda of his own. Even in the Sentry sentric issue, Iron Man is loosely portrayed as the antagonist.

That's true, what with the publisher of a major newspaper printin' smack against him nonstop from day 1. Ludicrous and clownish, like Clark's glasses, but it's an old staple of Spidermanland...

While I have been enjoying Civil War, I do agree that there has been some bias against the pro-reg side. As long as Iron Man's ultimate plans make some sense and don't make everything do a complete turnaround, I'll probably be okay with it. I certainly wouldn't want something like this to happen:
Iron Man: ...as you can see, the Superhuman Registration Act, with the 50 State Initiative, will save our world from global devastation. And I knew this the whole time.
Everyone else: Oh, well it all makes sense now! Of course we'll support registration 100%! The anti-reg heroes really WERE wrong all along!
 That would be annoying (to me at least).
When does issue #5 come out?

I've often wondered if a similuar converastion would take place if Doom took over the world. And I think that's especially true for the PRO side. They'll probably have done a lot of things they'll regret before all is said and done (which isn't to say they're wrong).
Anyways, I'm fairly certain no one is completely right or wrong in this scenario.
