Just gettin' ready for work. It's amazing the time you save when your tap water is polluted and you don't wanna shower in it. (We had a big storm the day before yesterday that apparently stirred up all kinds of sediment in the water supply. Now our tap water is brown.)
I went to this camp one summer and the water smelled like eggs. Sulfur deposits or something. Anyway, I didn't shower for over a week. In the summer. And I still smelled better than everyone at the camp.

Mike Birbiglia's Secret Public Journal, November 10, 2006 (http://www.mysecretpublicjournal.com/).
"I said, 'If you don’t find me a room in the hotel, I’m going to be (expletive) furious.' And then the manager said, 'Sir, you don’t have to take it to that level.' Five minutes later, he found me a room. Apparently, I did have to take it to that level."

Whats become kind of funny to me is the amount of kids these days that are getting cavities because their mommies insist on them drinking bottled water instead of tap water and the bottled water has no fluoride in it.
Hell, at least the kids are drinking water instead of just guzzling down soft drink. Maybe their mommies should also insist their little darlings clean their teeth.
Our water has no flouride, and my kids' teeth are fine.

Charles Grodin. Although he does occasionally get the lead, he's not usually very good there. He's great as a secondary character, though. Some people are better at being the second banana. Usually looks like a more fun part, anyway. Leads usually end up being boring clichés too often.
I'm 39 pages behind but I have to point out just in case that he was brilliant in Midnight Run. Which is an awesome underrated film in general.

That was good, thanks. Ostrander is my sentimental favourite all-time writer. Ie, I don't claim he's one of the best; he just wrote most of my own favourite series. But that elemental thing.... I still have my complete run. One of these days I'll reread it.
K'Nort
11-17-2006, 06:20 PM
That was a great breakdown of John (and Tom) and their cult status, because honestly, how many people read those books? Even for Ostrander, his run on Firestorm is about as well-known as Gaiman's run on Hellblazer. Yeah, a lot of people know the name and love the work, but there's always something by someone you haven't read yet. After The Spectre, most people know John from his definitive run on Suicide Squad, but not a whole lot of people dug Firestorm.
Everyone forgets Grimjack. Grimjack was awesome.

I just heard on 2UE with the stooge from the Australian saying that Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard are poised for a spill in early December.

You've mentioned that before and it still makes my head hurt. It's an adoption. No duh there won't be a match.
They became paranoid because of rumors in the 90's regarding baby bootlegging, so they instituted some new procedures, including the DNA matching and a required interview by the family court with the birth mother.
In the update we got yesterday we found out that the DNA match had been certified about three weeks ago and the family court approval (including birth mother interview) last week. We're anticipating US Embassy pre-approval next week, which sets us up for the PGN (Attorney General's office) review to start in late November, which will likely take one to two months. One couple that went through the process withour agency got it in ten days, and others have taken three months. Then there's a final interview, and we can schedule her travel to the US. Our lawyer says most likely we'll have our daughter here in January sometime.
We get an update from the foster mother about once a month and regularly send down clothes and toys and so forth. I know I should be calm, because things can go wrong, especially in a delicate situation like ours, but I can't help but get excited when we get a big update likes.

Let me weigh in more seriously; my dad has owned a petsitting/dog walking company for 9 years and I have done much work for him.
Dogs are a lot of fun. And if I'm meeting a strange animal, I'd rather meet a dog than a cat. Statistically speaking, they're more likely to love me right away. In fact, I had to walk one dog that had a cat in its house that genuinely scared the hell out of me; I and whoever else walked the dog established protocols to protect ourselves from that murderous animal.
But, for being able to connect and bond with an animal, I've loved my cats the most A.nd I've loved my dogs, plus many of the dogs I've taken care of. but my best friends in all the world have been two cats I've had over my life (both are gone now).
I will be a cat person forever.
Also, cats are easier to take care of.

I'd say I'm probably more a cat person. When I used to work in a pharmacy, I'd come home stressed every night. My cat Pepe (like pepe le pew from Loony Toons, she looked like a skunk) would always be there ready to jump into my lap, relax and sleep with me. It would always calm me down. But, she's gone and left me a couple years ago.
Now, just yesterday I found out that the reason my dog Missy has been loosing so much weight and hasn't been eating hardly anything this past week is cause she has a slow acting liver cancer that has gotten worse the past two weeks. We'll have to probably put her down Sunday.

Well, I can barely stay awake. Long week. Goodnight, folks.

I'm with you on that. Honestly, I thought the themes to the NES Batman and Castlevania games was the most awesome thing, back in the day.

When did you live with six cats?!
More than three is a lot in my book.
When I was renting a room in the crazy cat-lady's house in Brooklyn. At any given time, there were 3 to 6 humans in the 4-story brownstone all together.
Beefy, you have my sympathies. It's never easy.

You know...I just now realized this, but the one cat thats been a big part (kindergarten - 21) of my life acted like a dog and the one dog thats been a big part of my life (13 - next week sometime)acts like a cat.
My dog can be such a bitch, she acts like a cat. She'll let you pet her when shes in the mood to be petted, she does her own thing, never listens to anyone. The only one she actually acts like a dog to is my father. But my cat would act like a normal cat to everyone cept, me....when I was around, she'd always be on my heel. Whenever I came home, she'd come running out of the living room meowing at me with joy.
Really strange. Its like they switched traits somewhere along the line.
PETS ARE STRANGE but thats why we love them.

I hear ya on that. My dog hates when I read comics. He'll jump up on my lap, jam his head under the book and push it out of the way so I have to pay attention to him.

Who told you?
They really shouldn't have spoiled that scene. One thing I think is really clever about the show is how much it manipulates lefties like myself into being pro-military and making all sorts of rationalizations about stuff we'd normally never support.
It kinda makes me wonder if, at the end, they'll have it turn out that the Cylons were right all along.
(I do think that'd be a pretty cheap way to end things, though.)

That's a good point.
They've got a President who's found religion and believes she's some sort of prophet destined to take them to the promised land.
And for the longest time, I completely bought it. Lately, I've been a little more critical of her actions.
Bill Adama has lines he will not cross. Roslin-not so much.
I'm not sure if right & wrong apply. Is it wrong for humans as a species to want to survive?
The show hits us with complex moral problems every episode. No matter what decisions are made, there are always consequences. IMHO, that's what makes the show truly special.

Bill Adama has lines he will not cross. Roslin-not so much.Well, they've already drawn some parallels between her and Dubya. But even when she was doing shit that certainly wasn't legally or morally defensible, she was doing it for the sake of the 40,000 humans that comprise the entire race (as far as we know). And for the most part, she's been right, in an end-justifies-the-means sorta way.
All that being said, if I were in her position, I'd have no problem exterminating the Cylons en masse, considering what they've done so far. And, likely, what they'll do in the future. There's no question in my mind that their goal is either the extermination or enslavement of the humans.
Chris Nowlin

Exactly. I often side for idealism over pragmatism. But this has asked what circumstances are extreme enough that ideals mean nothing and survival is key.
Though at the same time, with Adama saying "It isn't enough to merely survive. We have to be worthy of surviving."
I feel like egg nog.

I understand where she's coming from.
I'm also glad that there are lines that different characters will not cross.
And of course, the sheer complexity of the problems they have to face is also fun.
I think a great example was the abortion episode in season 2.
Roslin is personally in favor of abortion rights, but she outlawed abortion. I think she told herself that it was for the survival of the species, but she also benefited from the support of fundamentalists on this issue.
As a consequence, Baltar makes a public break with her and ends up winning the Presidency.
I love that.

That was a great episode; I think part of why I like it is because it breaks down debates into simple forms. The situation was more understandable than the average political debate in that we were privy to all necessary issues involved and could fully grasp the moral, practical, and political questions. I feel like it abstracts sufficiently good moral issues.

Though at the same time, with Adama saying "It isn't enough to merely survive. We have to be worthy of surviving."Yeah, good points all around. I guess my anti-Cylon stance doesn't really have to do so much with their origins as their actions. Though that might just be rationalization on my part.

Music is a world within itself
With a language we all understand
With an equal opportunity
For all to sing, dance and clap their hands
But just because a record has a groove
Dont make it in the groove
But you can tell right away at letter a
When the people start to move
They can feel it all over
They can feel it all over people
They can feel it all over
They can feel it all over people
Music knows it is and always will
Be one of the things that life just wont quit
But here are some of musics pioneers
That time will not allow us to forget
For theres basie, miller, satchmo
And the king of all sir duke
And with a voice like ellas ringing out
Theres no way the band can lose
You can feel it all over
You can feel it all over people
You can feel it all over
You can feel it all over people
You can feel it all over
You can feel it all over people
You can feel it all over
You can feel it all over people
You can feel it all over
You can feel it all over people
You can feel it all over
You can feel it all over people
You can feel it all over
You can feel it all over people
You can feel it all over
I can feel it all over-all over now people
Cant you feel it all over
Come on lets feel it all over people
You can feel it all over
Everybody - all over people
