I personally liked the alternative ending to Frasier where he walks out into the car park the night before going to a larger audience and that white supremecist murders him.

And John C McGinley was great as his assistant.

I was a TV junkie when I was a kid. My actual life was somewhat less than ideal, so I escaped into the world of sitcom families and friends at work as pseudo families.

Frasier's ending:

Frasier is on a plane talking to a beautiful woman (Jennifer Beals) about the last few months of his life, a bit more assertive and charming than usual, and he neatly wraps up everyone's storyline in flashbacks. Martin gets married, Niles and Daphne's baby is born, Charlotte, his most recent girlfriend and he spend a nice final night before she leaves him to take a new job in Chicago. With everyone else having moved on, he decides to take a new job in San Francisco in a bigger market for a lot more pay. He has his last show, and signs off by reminding his audience that we most regret the things we did not do. We flashback to the present, and find that the plane has just landed in Chicago. Frasier turned down the job in SF to follow after Charlotte. It's one of those finales that they nailed. No gimmicks, the major plotlines wrapped up, a little uncertainty, but showing that Frasier has grown a bit from the beginning.

It's one of my favorite series finales.
I have to agree. That was one of the better finales I can remember.

For the green and blue in the background I brushed acrylic gesso onto a pice of posterboard, inked it up and ran it through a press. For the figures, I screenprinted a white flat in the shape of the figures and then blocked out the stencil everywhere I wanted the image to stay white. What was left I printed in red. To print the key image I made a transparency of the digital drawing of me and the shark and exposed it onto a silkscreen coated with a photo-sensitive emulsion.

And thank you all for the kind comments.

Yeah, there was a ton of stuff. Fraiser was older on Cheers, his mother a still living elderly woman, his father a dead research scientist, and he was an only child. On Frasier, he was a little younger, his mother was the research scientist and died young, his father alive and a retired police officer, and he had a brother.

They did a reboot, kept the core aspects of the character's personality, and started fresh. I have no problem with the changes because they worked in the series.

I gave you all of my money
Time after time
You done me wrong

You let all my friends come over and meet
And you were so strange
You didnt have the decency to change the sheets

Oh girl, when you were mine
I used to let you wear all my clothes
You were so fine (so fine)
Maybe thats the reason
That it hurt me so

I know (I know)
That youre going with another guy
I dont care (dont care)
Cuz I love u, baby, thats no lie
I love you more than I did
When you were mine

When you were mine
You were kinda sorta my best friend
So I was blind (so blind)
I let you fool around
I never cared (didnt care)
I never was the kind to make a fuss
When he was there
Sleeping inbetween the two of us

I know (I know)
That youre going with another guy
I dont care (dont care)
Cuz I love you, baby, thats no lie
I love you more than I did
When you were mine

When you were mine
U were all I ever wanted to do
Now I spend my time
Following him whenever hes with you

I know (I know)
That youre going with another guy
I dont care (dont care)
Cuz I love you, baby, thats no lie
I love you more that I did
When you were mine

When you were mine, yeah, oh no

G'morning.

Believe it or not, I've been awake for 1˝ already.

Oh, and I got a second part-time job for the holidays. Gonna try to squirrel away a few bucks for next year. This way, when the store closes down I may have enuff to squeak by until the new Barnes&Noble opens at the mall in March. If I can apply for unemployment too.

I'm also gonna be applying at Borders; while Borders is our parent company, we've been informed that no-one is guaranteed a job there. And none of us will be offered a transfer to another Waldenbooks store. In'nat special?

What truly sucks about all this is that we're gonna be moving after school is over. The Things' school doesn't look like it's gonna be open next year; the diocese has been consolidating and enrollment is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down (53 students in pre-K thru 8th grade).

*sigh*

I'm putting on some coffee.

I'm not gonna go into art class today. It's an optional day, and frankly, I'm not looking forward to cutting up my artwork and using it as a collage. So it balances itself out in the end. I do, however, have to get my sister up to the campus anyways, so eh. Maybe I'll stop by one of the LCSs on the way home.

Must be the week for projects.

We're still struggling to finish Thing 1's research paper. I'm gonna go over his notes while he's at school today and try to pre-assemble the longhouse he's gotta do for the craft part. I've gotta work both jobs Thursday and possibly Friday; tomorrow is just supposed to be basic training and considering I worked a calendar kiosk last year the only real 'training' will be figuring out where the stock is and working the cash.

Still gotta do one more section of note-taking before we start on the actual writing. And they expect him to have this typed out. Maybe someone should explain to the teacher that these are 4th graders; their experience with research is next to nil. It's taken a full week -- or better -- just to assemble and read the information. Took another 5 days for him to grasp jotting notes down; he still believes he needs complete sentences. There's gonna be another 2 full 8-hour days for the typing.

I know where my week-end is gonna be.

You might want to try some "Americana" prints, or American folklore art - it would be a great genre to complement your style.

It wouldn't be so bad if they were actually instructed and built up towards this kind of workload. They went from a short biography on a scientist to this beast; and the former was simply a few paragraphs. We're talking multi-sourced research, index cards, first draft, typed final draft, bibliography and organized information they're simply not ready for.

The most frustrating bit is having to teach him how to do this myself. He handed me a packet of stuff on the 3rd; it took me a day to sort thru the copied pages with 'instructions' on proper note-taking that made no sense before I finally tossed them on the side. They've had no time in the library and the teacher's been out 3 days straight so they can't ask her any direct questions.

Times like this I'm glad I don't have them signed up for extra-curricular activities.

Thanks. I basically have to put together a 'collage' of objects from photographs into a still life of sorts. Since I feel funny using stuff from the internet, I'm gonna try and get all the objects I need myself.

Fortunatley, I have the majority of it here.

Unfortunatley, the rest I have to buy and I'm a little... broke.

That, and I somehow got roped into bringing a cake to art class this coming Monday. I asked if I could jokingly -we're having a socializing potluck while he grades our finals-, since my birthday is a week from this Sunday and the fall classes end on the 20th. The art instructor was all like 'Yeah, yeah! And bring candles so you can blow 'em out too!'

... Well, looks like I'm gonna have to stop by Bakers first thing that morning.

But honestly? It's no big deal really. My last project was harder, truthfully speaking.

Oh and I don't watch TV that much these days either. I can't get into alot of shows that my friends like (such as 'Heroes' and 'Lost'), because it just doesn't interest me. Maybe that's a good thing though, I dunno.

Woooo! Cake! Ha!

Kinda funny though, you gots ta buy your own cake and candles, how cheap is that shit? :p
Oh and I don't watch TV that much these days either. I can't get into alot of shows that my friends like (such as 'Heroes' and 'Lost'), because it just doesn't interest me. Maybe that's a good thing though, I dunno.

DocAbsurd's Thing's teacher is a slave driver:

It wouldn't be so bad if they were actually instructed and built up towards this kind of workload. They went from a short biography on a scientist to this beast; and the former was simply a few paragraphs. We're talking multi-sourced research, index cards, first draft, typed final draft, bibliography and organized information they're simply not ready for.

Holy crap, that seems AWFULLY advanced for the fourth grade! I don't think we did stuff like that until Jr. High!

The show actually did have a Johns-esque explanation for everything. Essentially, Frasier was pissed at his family, so he made up a lot of lies about them. It was all addressed when Sam Malone comes to visit - "He never mentioned a brother. He told us you were dead - and a scientist."

He then finally makes his acting break, playing the Elephant Man in a musical adaptation of the film!

I especially love the sex scene between Thompson and Goldblum in the film - high-larious.

I have no doubt it was a brilliant adaptation. And yes, certain horribly cast actors can botch it, but the worst Austen adaptations are still pretty darn good (just not as good as the best ones), so when you do Jane Austen well, that's a lot different than pulling off a modern romantic comedy.

Now, if Firth gave a great performance in, like, that film he played Amanda Bynes' father, THEN I'd be impressed as all get out!

Yeah, it did, but that doesn't explain Fraiser's mother showing up on screen on Cheers and confirming all of the family stuff, in the episode where she threatens to kill Diane if they get married. I told you that you could pick the next one, but it would have to be within the guidelines of the thread. That you chose to say, "Go to hell, Brian! I hate you!" is not my fault!

So I was forced to come up with the next name on my own.

Yeah, it did, but that doesn't explain Fraiser's mother showing up on screen on Cheers and confirming all of the family stuff, in the episode where she threatens to kill Diane if they get married. I still say it's a big reboot, keeping the stuff that works and discarding the rest, like Buffy the movie going to Buffy the TV series.

That woman was an actress that Norman Osborn did plastic surgery on and paid to pretend to be Frasier's mother.

DUH!!

Lawrence Guterman, acclaimed director of Son of the Mask remakes Sense and Sensibility, starring Steven Segal as Willoughby, Keanu Reeves as Colonel Brandon, Jessica Alba as Elinor, and one of the Olsen twins as Marianne, with Judi Dench thrown in as the mom just to intice people of taste to see it.

I had a dream a couple nights ago in which I was watching a stage production of HAMLET, with Keanu playing the lead role. Danny DeVito played Claudius. From the costumes, I suspect Joel Schumacher may have been involved in the production.

I rarely remember my dreams, but when I do remember them, they are almost always weird as hell. It's probably a good thing I don't do drugs.

A Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner = Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny. It's an OK performance in a bad movie and won the Oscar. There's a rumor that Peter Falk read the wrong name when he announced the winner and giving the Oscar to Tomei is just a cover up. It's nonsense, but fun nonsense, and makes about as much sense as Tomei actually winning for Vinny.

How about good actors who never get lead roles? Jeffrey DeMunn has never been less than completely convincing in anything I've seen him in, yet he never gets anything but bit parts. He plays lawyers a lot.

Definitely.

I remember being actually taken aback (as I think I had stopped paying attention due to the lameness of the previous season) by catching an episode by how GOOD it was.

So I started tuning in again. And I lurv Laura Linney.

-Brian
The show began relying far too often on mistaken identity plotlines near the end and Daphne and Niles's marriage wasn't milked for funny as often as it could have been. They pussed out on the final episode. I hate it in TV shows and movies when romantic interests appear out of nowhere that are clearly designed to be perfect for their mates and serve no other function.

Ok you might win, right now, both he and Byrne have over 60 movies and Assante really only has 2 good ones, Mambo Kings and Lords Of Flatbush.
Byrne has gotta have more than 2 good ones, but right now I am only thinking Usual Suspects and Miller's Crossing.

Although, Gene Hackman is literally all over the map, quality-wise.

From The Conversation ---> The French Connection --> Uncommon Valor --> Hoosiers --> Bat*21 --> Loose Cannons --> Unforgiven --> Antz --> Enemy of the State --> The Replacements --> The Royal Tenenbaums --> Welcome to Mooseport

That's like a freaking sine curve from the best to the worst and up and down again. I think he must pick scripts out of a hat.

Still, I think Jon Voight chews scenery like few can -- in accents other actors wouldn't even try -- Anaconda, anyone? I think it's Paraguayan, there. Superbabies 2: Baby Geniuses -- with a German accent? Whoo boy.

I buy mostly t-shirts, the sizes are pretty standard across the board. Not if you want ones that actually fit.

He also wrote the heavily underrated (in my book) The Tall Guy, with Jeff Goldblum and Emma Thompson, where Goldblum is an American living in England as the sidekick to a famous comedian (Rowan Atkinson), where he is "The Tall Guy" in the skits.

He then finally makes his acting break, playing the Elephant Man in a musical adaptation of the film!

I especially love the sex scene between Thompson and Goldblum in the film - high-larious.

Just because.
