Y'ever have one of those dreams where you wake up and think, "Where the fuck did that come from?"
Two nights in a row. And last night's was a doozy. I outdid myself for crazy shit.
I recon' you're gonna have to see the medicine man for that'n. Some jobs can be stressing. Bountyhunting, on the other hand...
K'Nort - how long is the flight from where you are up to Alaska? Also, yeah the holidays in Southern Californian are bizzare. I spent several of them down there and I never got use to it. But I'm stubborn, if it's not cold enough to have the fireplace roaring, then it's not a true holiday.
It's taken almost twenty years of being in Northern California but I like being able to walk on the beach at Thanksgiving or CHristmas (and not be bundled up for a gale like when I was kid in Puget SOund). But I do still miss snow.

The sound quality is good, too--I'm not sure if it's digitally remastered or anything, but it has a warm sound--at least, through my shitty car speakers.

K'Nort - how long is the flight from where you are up to Alaska?
I've bought my Christmas ticket. I'm going to Southeastern Alaska (the string of islands alongside Canada), as usual, so less flying than if I were going to the actual body of the state like Anchorage or Fairbanks, but it's still 12 hours. And very short layovers for that one.
On the way home, it takes two days due to incompatible schedules. I have about 8 hours in Seattle.
Also, yeah the holidays in Southern Californian are bizzare. I spent several of them down there and I never got use to it. But I'm stubborn, if it's not cold enough to have the fireplace roaring, then it's not a true holiday.
I think that's the main reason I can't imagine living in that part of the country. No real seasons. And how can you really have summer (or at least appreciate it) when you never have winter?

Lesse...the last ep I saw was the one after the arrest, and I have to say CHristopher impressed me. He seemed..grown up. The actors ahve good chemistry, which is nice.
I'd have to go either way.
I missed all last season, but don't want to miss this one.
I'm really enjoying this season. I think Rosenthal has been a good for the show. He undoubtedly has a differing style (he's slowed-down the banter and the show is overall a litte more emotionally-driven) from the Palladinos, but he gets the characters and that's what's important. After John Wells and crew took over for Sorkin, I could barely watch WW. Josh was spouting lines that were almost antithetical to his character. It took them a long time to get the characters back on track.

It's taken almost twenty years of being in Northern California but I like being able to walk on the beach at Thanksgiving or CHristmas (and not be bundled up for a gale like when I was kid in Puget SOund). But I do still miss snow.
I was in Northern California from '87 to '96, and it took me almost all of that time to get use to the average 40 - 50 degree Christmases, but no matter what the temperature was, my Dad would always still build a fire. I now actually enjoy NorCal Christmases (in fact, I'll be in Vacaville this year celebrating with my sister and her in-laws), but I that average 10 - 20 degree difference down in SoCal is just too much for me.
I do miss the beach, esp. NorCal beaches. For some reason I rarely make it out to the beaches here.

I think that's the main reason I can't imagine living in that part of the country. No real seasons. And how can you really have summer (or at least appreciate it) when you never have winter?I certainly appreciate them outside of California in contrast. To me it makes snow extra special every time it comes, instead of something of a drudgery. Not to mention how welcome sunshine is.
But there's something to be said about a more consistent climate...

Agree with the So Cal avoidance. So far I've been able to not do Christmas in the southland because hubby's family doesn't really 'do' Christmas. My Dad's new wife though is from Escondido and still has a house and kids there so a holiday in the sun may be in my future.

When my brother and I were little, we had a subscription to National Geographic World, which was (is?) the kids version. They did a big feature on Legoland once. Long before there was a US version. And that was our favourite toy, so we wanted to go there more than anything. Certainly more than to Disneyland/world. I know, but even DisneyWorld has stuff that can appeal to adults, they barely even have rides. That's like complaining that Disney doesn't do snuff...
Blasphemy! BLASPHEMYYYYYY!!!
My dad got me into Lego's as a kid, to this day I still think he has more Lego sets than I do (which I still have all mine, they'll make a great gift to my kids someday).
Ah, those were the days, getting up on saturday morning, pulling out a HUGE box of lego's and building all the way through the cartoons. I can't wait to do that with my kids eventually.

Tinker Toys were alright, they were all wood which is nice, I think I even heard Lincoln logs aren't all wood anymore, and they were basically just sticks, and then you had a round piece that the sticks could fit into.

Oh snap! I was thinking Lincoln logs when I said that, I did have Tinker Toys but not the Lincoln Logs, I had friends that had them and a couple classes when I was young, probably K and 1st grade. Speaking of them though, I have seen some of the more recent sets and you're right, some of the pieces are plastic (last I knew not all of them were but most of the smaller pieces were plastic).

I do. They're wonderful people and I very much enjoy visiting them, but there are ten of them. Two of them are teenage boys who would rather be anywhere else. My mother in law has taken over my kitchen. My anxiety about fixing Thanksgiving dinner was misplaced--she's taking care of it now.

I think K'Nex have always been color-coded. That's one of the appeals of them as a construction toy. They come with excellent color-coded pictorial instructions. It does take a bit to get the hang of it, so trying one of the bigger projects right away isn't a good idea, but it is a quick learning curve.

I think it's the lost long weekend to spend with friends that they don't like much. One day traveling here, Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, travel back Saturday, and you only really have Sunday left to yourself, and that's spoiled because it's a school night. At home they'd have had a five day weekend to goof around. I can sympathize a little.

I'm finally here. This trip almost rivals my coming-home-from-san-diego one as Worst Trip Ever.
First, I got in at around 4am and was offered stand bys for each flight, so that I could maybe get here by noon. The first flight looked good, leaving at 6am and seemed to have no problems.
However, there was a part missing on the plane, and it got cancelled two hours later.
So, I go back to my original flight, and they gave away my seat. So I was lucky enough to get a new one, but it wasn't a good way to start the very early day.
I finally get into Chicago, no problems. Wait forever for my time to depart, sit in my seat, and fall asleep on the plane. I wake up an hour later, and we're still on the ground. Because they had problems shutting the door. This made me miss my next flight, so instead of leaving for Modesto at 4:30, it was at 9:00.
Did I mention I didn't sleep before doing all this?
So...very, very, very long day yesterday.

Was the missing part the doorhandle?
If it was, I'd hate to ever fly out of that airport again. They tried looking in the warehouse if they had a spare and they didn't, then they had to hire a company to order one for them...it was a mess.

Impressive ponytail you had Mr. Hair Farmer.
I remember going from ponytail to crew cut and how good it felt. You suddenly feel wind on your scalp and baths and showers are a whole new thing.

I started growing it when a high school classmate died of cancer (12 years ago on Saturday). She lost all her hair, but came in with a wig. I didn't like having shorter hair at the time (thank you, Kurt Cobain!) so I just went with it.
I've also been working on self improvement for the past year (still got the gut, dammit), going on the basis that every seven years, due to molecular turnover, we essentially become a new person. I'm now 28; Jeff version 4.0. It's time to donate the hair for Locks of Love (http://www.locksoflove.org/).

Keep in mind that Americans think the plural of beer is "beers".
That's a damn dirty lie. Us Americans don't even know what beer is!
And we walked the pagan streams
And searched for white horses on surrounding hills
We lived where dusk had meaning
And repaired to quiet sleep, where noise abated
In touch with the silence
On honey street, on honey street
What happened to a sense of wonder
On yonder hillside, getting dim
Why didnt they leave us, alone
Why couldnt we just be ourselves
We could dream, and keep bees
And live on honey street
And we walked the pagan streams
In meditation and contemplation
And we didnt need anybody, or anything
Then, no concepts, being free
And I wanna climb that hillside again, with you
One more time
As the great, great, great, great, great, great, great
Being watches over
And we repair, repair, repair, shhh, repair, shhh, we repair
To honey street, to honey street.

Hair doesn't grow contiuously. It grows in cycles, roughly 13 weeks, with a growth phase and a dormant phase. With body hair, during each dormant phase, the existing hair detaches from the root and is subsequently removed during washing or is pushed out by the subsequent hair.
Essentially, you shed your body hair about once every 13 weeks.

I know you have issues about the socializing and all, and you're working to make it better. It's not easy. But holiday times really *are* for family. It's as much for them as it is for you. Probably even more so.
It took me a few years before I finally got that.
Sure, but I doubt very much that things are going to go much worse for them if I spend a little time in here to avoid the pressures involved. They're mostly here to see Emily and don't really know me very well.

Yeah, unfortunately scalp hair works slightly differently. It's sensitive to DHT. If you have too much, it accumulates in the hair follicle and eventually kills it. This is why drugs designed to treat an enlarged prostate or cancer help prevent hair loss. They interfere with DHT production, along with other types of androgens, which shrinks the prostate and slows hair loss. Nearly all of our hair is sensitive to hormones in some way, but the different areas respond differently. The same DHT that causes scalp hair loss also stimulates terminal body hair growth.

Gads, that sounds like a weird way to go.
I knew after I posted that that I'd worded it a little strangely. Terminal hairs are the thick colored hairs, as opposed to velous hairs, which are the tiny, fine, white or colorless hairs that women tend to get. DHT stimulates growth of terminal hairs, while estrogen stimulates growth of velous hairs.
