But then only 100,000 units. Not many really for the whole of Japan, but no doubt more will arrive....sometime.

Stupid delay means Europe has to wait until March though. :(

I don't think the March date is good for Europe anymore. I think they are going to focus on Japan and America first and then get to you guys.

Isn't that how it is with 90% of things? I'll never understand the uproar over PS3 coming to Europe late, because everything seems to come to Europe later.

I think that's the reason for the uproar. They might be sick of having to wait for everthing they get their hands on and pay much more than everyone else.

Why is this news? God help any company that can't move 100,000 consoles

Yeah, it doesn't seem like that many. Especially in Japan. Is that really all they made available?

500,000 total. 400,000 of them go to the US, 100,000 go to Japan.

Supposedly Sony will ship 3-6 million (can't remember which) by March. We'll see I guess.

THey've had how long and can only make 500,000 so far. What makes them think they'll be able to get 2.5 million out in 4 months?

That BBC article appears to be erred; Sony themselves said the Japanese launch was trimmed to 80,000 units.

Europe is used to getting things later, but that changed with the Xbox 360. The US, Japan, and Europe were all part of a worldwide launch with all three territories receiving 360s within a two-week time period.

The Xbox 360 had the same problem but once they got past it they had no problems meeting the production needs of their customers. The problem ofcouse is that the Xbox 360 screwed themselves as the missed the Holiday season and many of those that would have paid for an Xbox 360 either gave up or don't want one anymore. Sony runs that problem AND facing competition from Nintendo and Microsoft.

A) The "shortage" is a load of crap
B) The stress and constant mockery have gotten to them and they've gone insane

It was initially announced as being available here in November.

Keeping the release number low increases demand and makes it a status symbol, becoming the must have gift.

Except Xbox360 managed to do something of a global release. And I believe Nintendo is also? It's as much because Sony said they were, then didn't. And the fact that it's one more black mark, amongst many, that Sony has had on a corporate level.
