Help me with a decision

My comic book store is having a comic book sale. Back issue comics are going for a quarter of the price. I want to by The Ultimates for Vol 3 when Joe Mad takes over. But I just came back from my comic book store and they have all the issues for the first two volumes.

Anyway my question is, if I am buying from Vol 3 do I need to get these back issues or is it not really necessary.

I understand some of you are going say that the story and art are brilliant etc etc. But that is not what I am asking.
What I want to know is it important in terms of story or not.

Hope this makes sense.the problem is noone really knows much of whats going to be in Volume 3 as far as story is concerned, but from what i've read and heard its going to be a complete change at least artistically and thematically from the first two volumes but there might still be a continuation of whatever stories are left unended.

Yea for the most part I get the feeling that Vol 3 is going to be disconnected from the first two.

But at the same time it's not like its a whole new book y'know? There's bound to be at least some connections to the earlier volmes.

In any case, it ain't gonna kill ya to get the back issues.

I agree with the rest. We really don't know what is going to happen in Ultimates Vol 3 but we do get the impression that it will be slightly different.

Since the series is going to only have 25 issues (I think) out when Vol 3 starts you won’t have missed too much. So you should be able to start with Vol 3 without any worries. I still would recommenced getting the rest of the Ultimates series though.

I didn't get them. They had a lot of back issues which I ended up getting instead.
