Got Monster Men and Justice this week and WOW. So damn good. And so much better than the All-Star books and they're shipping on time.

Why aren't these DC's top sellers?

Sometimes the quality of work surpasses the name.

because as much as people whine and moan about quality and excellence in a batman title they never fail to rush out and buy the latest hush or all star crap while neglecting the great talents, the wagners and laphams of the world. They cry about characterization and how we never see detective bats and he's always the same or an *#(hole etc but when you get an incredible, fleshed out and thoughtful portrayal that the guys above give the fans turn around and go "meh, nothing happened" "eh, it was too long" "it was just weird" etc etc because they are in the mindset of the monthly reader and are so stuffed full of shlock they wouldnt know a quality mag if it did something or other not mentionable on this board.

I remember reading the original monster men story from the golden age, they should have reprinted it in this volume. I'm trying to remember if that's the story where Batman strafed the villains in his machine-gun armed batplane. There's a scene I would to see!

I dig Wagner's Batman comic quite a bit, but it is a far cry from All Star Superman.

The Batplane is in the story, but he doen't use it to attack anybody. He just used it to get to Paris.

Why was this moved and why was my title edited to take out the reference to Justice?

Who knows.
But Justice at least is one of DC's top sellers. although I can't fathom why, aside from the pretty artwork.

It is very, very pretty artwork but it's also a straight up hero-villain fight. No recons, no cosmic crisis, just good and evil. And for once evil is being clever. I'm waiting for trades and I thought the cliffhanger fight with Superman, Bizarro, Parasite, Metallo and Grundy was gripping. It was the first time, in oh, ever, I thought Superman was in real trouble.

That's what the Death of Superman should have been.

Nah, that's the Mad Monk story, I think. The Monster Men story was the one where he killed them while flying the Batplane, for memory.
