View Full Version : Superman Confessions
The Batman

This is a thread where we can confess all the cool, wierd geeky Superman stuff we do in our day to day lives or the funny little things we do because of our love of the Man of Steel. I'll get started . .
1) As often as I can get away with it, when I do wear a suit I like to wear a Superman t-shirt underneath it. It makes getting undressed at the end of the night that much more fun.
2) Whenever anyone trips or falls and I catch them I say "Don't worry, I've got you." and I'm always a little disappointed when I don't hear "You've got me!?! Who's got you?!?"
3) Superman: The Movie gets me everytime. And I mean gets me.
4) In all of the comicons I've gone to the only celebrity autograph I've gotten was Margot Kidder's. Not Odo's or Worf's or Boba Fett's; just Margot Kidder's. She's Lois Lane.
5) I buy into all that stuff about Superman being a modern myth, cultural icon stuff. Yeah I know that he's a silly colourful comic book character but he's not just a silly colourful comic book character.
Anyone else?

I have a closet full of t-shirts. I have one Green Lantern, one Batman, and a bunch more, but I have three identical Superman t-shirts. The only difference is how faded the emblems have become after years and years of washing. I wear a superhero t-shirt every day of the week, but Superman I wear three times. :p
Also, sometimes I unintentionally put my hands on my hips while I'm wearing it.

In no particular order....
1. My Christopher Reeve Foundation dog tag hangs from my rearview mirror, in which I can see the white S-shield sticker on the rear windshield. There are no other adornments of any kind on this car.
2. The Ed McGuinness Superman (http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/comicfusion_1922_43209350)action figure stands (proudly) on my desk at work. The guy who sits two desks over (good friend and CBR member Infoghost (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/member.php?u=10840)) bought the McGuinness Batman (http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/comicfusion_1922_43050728)to match.
3. Everyone has a last-minute Halloween costume they can throw together out of their closet at the last minute. Mine is easy and obvious: necktie, Daily Planet ID badge, and shirt unbuttoned to show Superman T-shirt underneath.
4. Despite having a geographical predisposition to wear either Boston Red Sox or New England Patriots apparel and NOT be a bandwagon-jumper, I instead wear a black fitted Lidz cap with a silver shield in front and "Man of Steel" on the back.
5. One of my most unique and cherished possessions is a charcoal-smudge portrait of the man himself, hand-drawn for me by an old college buddy as a 21st birthday present.
That's enough for now, any more and I'm going to REALLY embarass myself. :)

Oddly, I often say "You've got me, who's got you?!?" at random. Sometimes I've just got to say it. And if I were to ever trip and fall, we'd make a good team.
I also have Superman Mardi Gras beads hanging from my rearview mirror. A Superman desktop at work, keychain and wallet. People who work here know I heart him. People who visit always pick up on it and think its funny.
I quote Superman stuff to my friends all the time. I don't realize it usually. Sometimes when I'm giving advice I realize that I've heard Perry White say the same thing before.
When I watch the news I talk about how Superman could have stopped it from happening.
And... I dunno I basically daydream about super powers all day. :o

I have nothing nerdy lol. No toys, no posters nothing really. I love Soopy but I watch Smallville and read the comics and that's about it.
On my desk at work, I have 2 Superman figures, Kingdom Come, Red Sun, and along with a calendar that has Supe's greatest battles on it (Nov is his fight with the Hulk, the pic done by Dedato) got a Superman Tattoo on my shoulder and the t-shirt for when I work out in the morning. Box Set of the Superman movies plus the Christopher Reeves foundation dog tags.

This is nerdy.
I stopped being religious a long time ago, but when faced with a difficult moral quandary I sometimes honestly will say to myself: WWSMD? What would Superman do?
Drawing on my years of comics reading, and collecting the Man of Steel in particular, I try to think back on a time when Supes faced a similar choice and then do what he did.
It doesn't always work. I don't have super powers. But sometimes it does help.

I claim comic books as a religion, because moral crises can usually be cleared up by referring to what a hero has done in a similar, if only parable, situation. I often use Superman as an example.

I went out of my way to see the house Superman was created in, even though it's now in one of the worst neighborhoods in Cleveland.

Can I read them?
As for me:
I had the countdown clock for Superman Returns in my Mac at home. Had it been possible to have it at my work's crappy PC, I would have had it.
The wallpapers I put in my Mac are always Superman-related.
I had a Superman wallpaper at my work's PC until the crappy policies regarding PC use in my company prevented me to do such thing anymore. Now I have a HIDEOUS "wallpaper" with the company logo.
I put regularly the Superman March, and The Planet Krypton themes at my work. As a matter of fact, I'm listening to the former right now.
Every time I listen to the Superman: The Movie Soundtrack (of which I own the extended version), I feel really, REALLY good.
I put regularly the Superman Returns teaser trailer at my work and at home.
Every time, and I mean EVERY TIME I watch Superman: The Movie, it gets me.
The first time I watched the Superman Returns teaser trailer, I almost cried.
I watched Superman Returns four times, and every time, it got me as well. I was planning to see it a fifth time, but couldn't.
Almost everybody close to me knows I'm a Superman freak. Even my boss.
I have a myriad of Superman comics.
I'm writing a Superman fanfic, and that reason alone was the reason I started drawing again.
I visit the Superman Homepage (http://www.supermanhomepage.com) at least 6 times a week.
I also dream about having Superman's powers pretty often, especially the power of flight.
I'm expecting the Superman Returns Soundtrack to fall into my hands sometime before this month ends.
I pre-ordered The Ultimate Superman Collector's Edition DVD Box Set.
I proudly wore my Superman shirt the day Superman Returns opened (shirt that I especially bought for such an ocassion).
I firmly believe that there hasn't been, nor there will EVER be, a hero greater than Superman. No one's even close to him in terms of greatness.
Yup, I think that's it.

I know what you mean. I love Superman themes, I regularly work out to a bunch of them (most notably the Superman The Animated Series theme song and Superman: The Movie's main title).

Yeah. Those are really inspiring songs.
EDIT: And arguably, that's the best soundtrack John Williams has ever composed.
Another one for my count:
19. Recently bought the Kellog's Superman Returns Cereal (it appeared on the shelves late). I'm keeping the box after I'm done with it.
