This comes out next week but there doesn't seem to be a lot of hype for it...apparentally it's not quite like the LOTR extended cuts, I've heard there's only ten minutes added to the film (Probably including the "Scream for your life!" scene from the trailer) and no word on commentaries, at least at the Amazon link. KONG is already long enough as is-while the length of LOTR was justified since there was a lot going on and due to the source material, there was a lot of padding in Kong.

I dunno bout this....just as you said King Kong was already waaay too long.

I didn't like King Kong, but I've been following the adventures of the Jackson gang for years, so I might buy the DVD depending on the bonus material.

I had to watching the regular DVD in shifts, it was so long!!! How much longer can the film be?!

Instead, go back through the original cut and take out some of the superfluous fluff (like having to rescue Anne three f***in' times!), THEN add your new footage, assuming it's even relevant to the plot!

I liked Kong. I didn't think it was great, but I thought it was good. I'll probably check this out mostly because I didn't buy the original edition of the DVD when it came out.

Peter Jackson and team did an amazing job with The Lord of the Rings triology but King Kong was just a long thinking process.I am not saying King Kong was a bad movie just nowhere near great.

I for one movie buff have finally caught on and will only buy dvd's for my collection of movies after they have been out for ten plus years because I am tired of the special deluxe never before seen awesome superb edition being issued after four other editions.

King Kong was fun, but there should have been at least 30 minutes cut from it. The whole sub-plot with the first mate and the young kid was ridiculously pointless, and a few of the action scenes went on so long that they were past credibility, then fantasy; finally settling in the territory of "so frikkin drawn out that it's not even cool to watch anymore" (I'm looking at you, Brontosaurus chase!)

And don't even get me started on the shooting-off-the-bugs-off-the-guy-who's-flailing-around-with-a-machine-gun sequence.

I'd rather see a re-cut version as opposed to an extended version.

I'm really tempted to get this. I thought the theatrical cut was too long, but the added 13 minutes might change the pacing of the film for the better. In general I liked Jackson's Extended LOTR cuts so I turst him with an Extended Edition. Money's a bit tight this week though so I'll wait and read some reviews.

The special features on the discs don't include all of the stuff from that Production Diaries set right? I believe I read that it didn't which just seems silly to me. Why wouldn't you include as much stuff as possible for this set. All those extras probably would have made this a must buy for me.

I can't take credit for this, much as I'd like to, as it sums up what I think of an extended cut:

Brokeback Mountain: Skull Island Edition: KONG'S DONG GOES BONG!
By ZombieSolutions
In addition to the regular 800 thousand million hour cut of KING KONG, Jackson has made an alternate cut -- running a scant 600 billion hours long -- featuring the heartbreaking tale of steaming hot interspecies manlove between KONG and T-REX. Various fundamentalist religious wackos and zealots from around the world are already furious and calling for Jackson's immediate assassination. Everybody else is still in the theatre wondering if the film is ever going to end...

If those 13 minutes contain more monster scenes count me in.

Did Peter Jackson yawn in the commentary given how too long this movie is?

The extended footage should include a scene where King Kong takes a monstrously large dump on top of a movie theatre.

That would be awesome. Then he goes quiet, and soon you just hear snoring...
