I thought this game was supposed to come out in mid-September and here it is November and it is still not out.

Anyone know the hold-up and when it is slated for release?

I've seen signs saying its coming out on like the 22nd or something. Around the time when the DVD comes out.

If you're getting Superman Returns, and your interested in a deal, Best Buy will have a Black Friday deal first thing in the morning. $19.99 on PS2.

I dunno. The site's pretty darn reliable.

I remember a WEEK before Circuit City had a HUGE clearance sale, someone posted the prices, and if you bought the games they rung up as on sale, even though the stickers had the original prices on them.

All I know is that after playing the demo...I discovered that I am the worst. Superman. Ever.

All I wanted to do was put out a fire with my breath...but I ended up blowing about 12 cars down the street, injuring civilians, and blowing up a gas station. oops...

Might be the best Sandbox game yet...and I don't even like Superman.

The demo actually makes you feel like Superman! No limited flight and no life-bar. Just make sure Metroplois doesn't fall apart, or game over.

Look at it at the bright side. You might make the worst Superman, but also the best Bizarro ever.

To my knowledge, SR is gonna be multiplatform. So you don't have to get a 360 to play it (that is, unless you had another reason you wanted to get a 360).

I've been on the fence for a while, and what with Gears of War out now, Mass Effect on the horizon, and some other really tempting games, it feels like it might just be time to set my PS2 aside and upgrade. Depends on how my money looks after the holidays, of course.

If the PS2 version gets rave reviews, I might pick it up. But this looks like a game that'll just really shine on the 360 over the others.

I just don't see how the PS2 can pull off all of the things that the game is supposed to let you do. Metropolis itself is pretty big and detailed, but the preview video I saw on the demo showed lots of crazy shiznit that might strain an older console.

300 foot tall Metallo smashing buildings and shooting kryptonite blasts while Supes flys around him with shooting eye beams might cause some serious lag.

Then again, PS2 has surprised me in the past.

there is a free demo on Xbox live

give you an idustrial level that only have a few small mentions but you get all the powers

my view from playing the demo

Super speed flying is REALLY fun. Also go up in the sky and watch the city get smaller, you break the sound barrier

Get a lot of powers, sometime it hard to get the hang of using them. Namely Flying at enemies cause you going so Darn fast.

But get use to it after a bit. Having got a hang of a fly punch let though. When I say you go fast you...go FAST.

The city doesnt get destroyed as easy as it seems so you can use your power high if you want. It when you use them in the big fights, is when I think the city is in danger. You do have to worry sometime about wrecking stuff though. Sense running on superspeed on ground make cars fly up..which is VERY FUN..and make me want to do the bizzaro mission.

only got part of metrolis and that part seem big. So I imagine the whole game is huge. And here in Krypton sections (although that may be a rumor)

Did see a shot in monstage of superman fighting in his Grey suit, mongul on some futuristic city

Got this game today (PS2). It's pretty awesome so far, but I defintely agree with the complaints of the IGN review.

This game offers the best Superman experience ever IMO. My favorite thing to do is fly up as high as I can and just dive bomb down into the city below. It's the same experience I got swinging through New York as Spidey in the first SM movie game.

Metropolis is friggin huge too, but the main problem is there's not much to do in it really. The battles are VERY random and unecessary. And the Metallo robots get on my last nerve (especially the damn speedsters and flying drones).

I would've hoped for more variety of enemies and rescue missions too. Aside from the fire fighting, and occasionally picking people up and placing them next to an ambulance, there are no other heroic things to do.

This game is great, but it could be SOOOO much better. I'm crossing my fingers for the sequel.

I see. I'll get this game, though, cuz I'm a fanboy ;). Seriously, I don't think it's as bad as IGN claims.

However, the repetitiveness is sadly part of the curse the Superman games have. It happened in The Death And Return Of Superman, which was considered by many as the best Superman game before Superman Returns: The Videogame appeared.

I'll have to help EA out and offer them my services for the creative department :D. I hope they don't fall asleep on their laurels, and start developing the sequel right away, taking into account the complaints for this game. I wouldn't want to wait five or six more years to see another Superman game.

maybe the city destroyed

Sometime I get him but I only get him after he destroyed a lot of the city. So sometime he gets one last swipe in destroying the city

keep an eye on your city health bar that probally the promblem

Oh near the end he fires a missle. You got to CATCH the missle not shooting it down. You much fly up right when he shoot it. The cut scene for it real quick, you may missed it.

oh then you go into a button combo where you got to hit certain buttons really fast

If you want to save money...though if you "really" want to buy it; you should've bought it on Fri. during the Black Friday sale.

Though, if you're a true Superman fan. Trade in as many games, that you tired off, to bring the price down and get it.

Is the best Superman game to have come out but it's not perfect. Defintely, not perfect. But is worth the experience and is incredibly fun.

You'll have to be patient to learn the controls and save...SAVE!! Save your progress, when you finish a mini-mission.

I give it 7.7/10

If the wasn't a Superman game it'll get a lower rating.

To answer your question Max of Steel, you only need to pick up injured people so that you can add more health to the city. There's no hospital and if you notice when you go too far away from the area with the injured people you can't see the injured marker anymore. So basically you don't have to help them unless your low on city health. Oh and no you can't throw them either. Throwing cars on them is fun though:)

Sweet. Thanx Bob.

So only the act of picking people up replenishes the city's health? Or do you have to move them to another non-specific spot? I'm away from my PS2 til christmas break so I can't really test this out yet.

Quick question: what's it like being Bizarro? Do you just have to go through Metropolis creating as much devastation as possible? Is it any good?

Apparently you can be Bizarro anytime you like. I did it pretty early on in the game (after the Mongul story). There's a portal in multiple places that let you change to Bizarro mode and you have a set time limit to create a certain amount of damage to the city.

It's kinda more fun to eff with Metropolis as Supes though imo.:)

Sean Whitmore
11-27-2006, 01:21 PM
The problem with saving citizens is twofold:

1. The ambulances are usually so far away that when you carry a citizen over, all the injured citizen markers behind you disappear.

2. More bad guys almost ALWAYS attack after you've dropped one person off at the ambulance.

You have to drop them off at an ambulance and then you get the health.

And like you said sean they do disapear after youv'e gone too far but that's why they're just meant for a little bit of health. If you stay in the area though and finish fighting all the bad guys you can just pick up the people later or to improvise bring the ambulance to the injured people.

My review(Spoilers):

I have played this game..and I have mixed feelings about it.

First of all I have to say this game has been getting negative reviews based on aspects separate from the gameplay. People complain about the lack of having to save lois in levels, or not seeing scenes as clark kent, or never somehow fighting lex luthor. Also the fact that the last boss is a tornado

While it would of been nice to save lois, and all that..none of this bothered me. I never found myself saying "you know, i need to save lois"

Then on to the most common gameplay complaints, some of which I agree with. First one is repetitive enemies. This is true..yet, what game doesnt have this? Spiderman 2 is hailed as a great game, it had the same thing. In fact, most gamers should be used to this concept.

Second is the control scheme, it just felt clunky sometimes, it didnt feel smooth. Spiderman 2 felt smooth, this wasnt. It wasnt horrible, but sometimes the lock-on feature was buggy.

I also didnt like that they took the cliche route. As in, some enemies need to be defeated by physical force, some by heat vision, some by freeze breath. Every enemy should be able to be frozen into a block of ice, Every enemy should at least be effected somehow by heat vision, unless youre a human torch type enemy or something that should be immune to fire. Dragons would of made sense to be resistant to this. You cant tell me someone went through the trouble of building robots that are resistant to one of supermans powers, but completely vulnerable to the others.

All in all, this is a great game. I feel that this is like the spiderman series. The first spiderman was good, and to me the 2nd one turned out perfect. Now if they make a sequel to this game, it should be volumes better.

This has replaced Shadow of Apokolips on PS2 as best superman game.

Thanx for the review. And yes, Superman Returns is being called the best Superman game to date. I just hope EA starts working on a sequel.

If EA is smart, they'll improve on what they already have. All they have to do for the next game is add more cut scenes, more combos & more unlockables among other things. EA should put every costume Superman's ever had into the next Superman game (including the movies & cartoons as well as the comics of course). The story for the next game should also focus just a little more on the actual movie with some other villains tossed in. Having Bizarro, Mongul, & Metallo return wouldn't be too bad either. They should also have General Zod & Non in the next game & they should have a cut scene explaining their origins.

Not a bad idea. From what I gathered from your post, you'd like a remake of the current game. But I'd like to see a completely new game, in which EA improves the flying physics, the graphics and controls. I'd also want to see more enemies, and I'd like to see Superman being able to reach the space, and save people from other countries. Plus, seeing more tasks for saving the day in Metropolis would come in handy, like rescuing Lois, rescuing a falling airplane, and so on.

I agree, however, that the villains in the next game should be others different than Bizarro, Mongul and Metallo.

My picks? Imperiex, Doomsday and... DARKSEID!!!!

I am really looking forward to playing this. It is on my Christmas list so I really hope that I get it because otherwise there is going to be a lot of NCAA Football 07 before I go back to school.

Well, good luck then. Please post your comments after you've played it. Playing a sports game for that long is not good.

No, I don't want a remake of the current game, I want them to take what they already have & make improvements. The current game was good but they still need to make a lot of improvements. As for the villains, I want Bizarro, Mongul, and Metallo to return but there should also be new villains such as the ones you suggested. Preus, General Zod, and Non would also be good villains to see. For any new villains in the next Superman game, they need to actually show their origins this time around.

I agree. And Preus would be a nice addition for the upcoming game.

I wonder whatever happened to Preus. I haven't seen him for a long time.

Breaking News:

Superman sucks again in the world of video gaming!

Well, it's not really his fault. The flying is impressive, but the battle mechanism and story don't do him any justice.

Darkseid would also be nice to see but only if EA could come up with an interesting way to bring him into the story.

Nah, this isn't the worst Superman game ever, it's a big improvement from past Superman games. At least that's my opinion.

I agree that it is better than previous games but it is still pretty bad. I looks really good and the flying is amazing but overall it sucks!

I bought the game this past Saturday & even though I've already beaten it, I'm still enjoying playing the game. However, the next game will still need major improvements. The next game should include more combos, a more interactive & active Metroplois, a better designed city, etc. Superman also needs to be able to fly & run a lot faster than he does in this game. Also, the next game should have more unlockable costumes that should also appear in the cut scenes whenever that costume is being used. The player should also be able to change back & forth into Clark Kent whenever the player wants to. And you should be able to use Clark's suit as an alternate costume once you complete the game. Also, being able to go inside the Daily Planet as Clark wouldn't hurt either. There should also be a "Villains Mode" where you can play as any major villain that has appeared in the game. You should have to go through each villains story & for some of the villains your goal is to kill Superman but for others it's to rule the world. Lastly, a mode where you can play as a young Clark Kent would be nice. I'd love to be able to superjump around the city.
