Now that the PS2, X-Box and Gamecube gen will be drawing to a close, let's start listing the best and most memorable games from last gen.

I can say with certainty (though I know some will disagree) that FFXII is the best RPG of the now/soon to be previous generation.

Though I'm not a particular fan, mention must go to the GTA series.

Other favorites:

Xbox

Stubbs the Zombie
Crimson Skies
Ninja Gaiden
Halo 2
Grabbed By the Ghoulies

PS2

Final Fantasy X
Kingdom Hearts I - II
God of War
Ico
Ratchet & Clank series
Dragon Quest VIII

(Note that there are a few PS2 titles I haven't played yet, notably Okami and Shadow of the Colussus, that I suspect will make it onto this list once I have.)

Multi-Platform

Psychonauts
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Beyond Good & Evil
Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
Resident Evil 4
Def Jam series
The Warriors

Resident Evil 4 was by far the best of the gen though i doubt it will be remembered as fondly as Halo and GTA who dominated this generation.

System by system

Dreamcast:
Soul Caliber
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Power Stone

PlayStation 2:
GTA
God of War
Guitar Hero

GameCube:
Super Smash Bros.
Resident Evil 4
Windwaker

Xbox:
Halo

Edit: Forgot the GBA! Needless t say Pokemon rocked it as usual. Golden Sun and Metroid also made great contributions.

I'm more of a PC gamer, but when I look back on this gen of consoles, I'll probably remember Halo, GTA, and Super Smash Bros. as the "defining" games.

What do you think are the best RPGs for the PS2? Now that prices are taking a nose-dive, I plan on buying some of the gems I ignored over the years :D

All the Mario sports/racing games. Mario Kart Double Dash and power tennis in particular. These games were were by far my personal favorites of the Generation.

The only games that rivaled the Mario franchise in multi player fun were DDR and Guitar Hero.

For the most part, I agree with you. I would definitely include Okami and Shadow of the Colossus. They have become some of my favorite PS2 games. Other favorites include Ico, Kingdom Hearts series, Final Fantasy X, and Psychonauts. I would also include Jet Set Radio Future for X-Box. It wasn't as big as other games, but it is one of the most fun games I've ever played.

I do not believe this statement.

I think PS2 will continue for far longer then you think.

With the recent release of both KH2 and FF12 and many other big name games that are not out on the PS3 and it's price at a new low, it'll continue for a while yet. I mean the GC has the new Zelda game as well as the Wii

But sticking with the thread.

PS2:
Tekken 5
Final fantasy games
Kingdom hearts games

Of course, old system aren't immediately dropped the second something new comes out. But the PS2 is nearing the end of it's life. 2007 will probably be it's last big year

I'm guessing....my crystal ball's got dirt on it, though
