I thought that it's a very good sequel to DEADLY FOES OF SPIDER-MAN Mini; in which focuses upon Spidey's enemies {or in this case, the SINISTER SYNDICATE}.....

PLUS, certain subplots within the Mini would be dealt with later in THUNDERBOLTS, for example........

I enjoyed it. I actually can go as far as to tell you the place i read it and when, so it must have been enjoyable. Ocean City on a Family trip.

I loved Deadly Foes of Spider-Man. Is it true that it was the first Spider-Man mini-series ever?

Lethal Foes was a pretty decent followup too.

I really enjoyed the first mini, "Deadly Foes of Spider-Man," at least at first. The first couple of issues really spotlighted the trials and tribulations of the villains, and added a human element to them. I wonder if there was some kind of editorial or creative shakeup, though, as the last issue or two just turned into one protracted fight, devoid of any character moments that had preceded it. I know there was at least an art shakeup, and the series really suffered from the inconsistent artwork in the title.

Nevertheless, on the strengths of Deadly, I picked up Lethal, and was woefully disappointed. It read more like the latter parts of Deadly Foes (ie, a big fight), and not like the earlier, character driven parts. Moreover, much to the series' detriment, IMO, it seemed like they were throwing everything and the kitchen sink into the mix just because- Doc Ock, Rhino, Boomerang, Hardshell, Vulture- heck, they even pull out a couple of random, needless (and incredibly short-term) resurrections of previous Spidey villains, just because. The whole ends up being a mishmash of villains just for the sake of beating up Spidey and one another. IMO, you should pass on this one.

The concept is a really good idea, though. Frankly, I'd love to see something more like the earlier issues of Deadly Foes, or else something along the lines of the Hush story in Batman, where Spidey's Rogue's Gallery gets a revamp (or even just single issue rogues spotlights like Geoff Johns did in the Flash). If you're going to bring back some of the more minor and random characters, like Lethal did, they need more time in the spotlight than one slugfest to actually be meaningful.

That's what I thought the recent "Deadly Foes of Peter Parker" arc was going to do in SENSATIONAL, but in the end the classic rogues (Electro, Chameleon) came out of it looking like idiots and the other "foes" weren't even actual villains (Molten Man, Will 'O The Wisp). Extremely disappointing. I would love some "Flash Rogues"-style one-shot stories, like you suggested, focusing on the various great-but-misused Spidey villains in an attempt to make them top-notch menaces again. Unlikely to happen in the midst of all the current CIVIL WAR business, but maybe after that's over with there would be room in one of the Spidey titles for a series of villain-centered one-shot issues.

Not quite.......it's more like the first Mini that focused on Spidey's Villians...!!

I didn't think much of the 'Lethal Foes' mini-series either...it wasn't a patch on the earlier 'Deadly Foes' mini IMHO.

I agree with Cthulhudrew that the whole series is just one big, protracted fight and suffers from having too little characterisation in it.

I can only think of three remotely significant things that happened in LFoSM and most of them are more villain-related than Spidey-related…

1) Ringer comes back from the dead under a new name (Strikeback or something like that). Is later killed (I forget exactly where. Thunderbolts?).

2) The Ringer’s wife (from the Deadly Foes mini) officially becomes a costumed villainess (Hardshell). She goes on to become the second Beetle (wearing Abe Jenkins’ third model), join the Redeemers, and gets killed by Graviton in Thunderbolts.

3) The Answer comes back from the dead…and then disappears completely until the New Avengers Raft breakout. He’s since appeared in the Toxin mini and starred in one of this year’s Valentine one-shots (Outlaw Love) though his powers seem to have been watered down a bit since his resurrection.

As you can see, only one of them is still relevant and even that one is barely so.

I remember it being promoted as the first Spider-Man mini-series. Now I'm curious, anyone know what was?
