View Full Version : CBRdraws: WONDER WOMAN

A few weeks of these threads and no women yet, what was I thinking?
Here is a thread to share your rendition of Diana, DC's Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman Reference (http://www.dcuguide.com/who.php?name=WonderWoman)

Its so simple, we pick a character from comics, games, cartoons, whatever, and then people post their own drawings of that character.

It never closes, so its not like you have to do a drawing by the end of the week, but if you want a challenge each week to draw something you didn't expect to, it might be a good excercise.

No level of skill required, this is just for fun. It can be a splash page or part of a story. It can be penicils, inks, colors, paint, photography... really anything goes.
Thanks!

Great face. And I don't think it necessarily needs to be inked. You've got a nice, loose line there.

I haven't been drawing that much lately over the past year or so but I want/need to get back into it again. I plan to draw at least one fully finished drawing a day from now on. Normally, I do full color stuff but that is so tedius and takes me so long I get bored after awhile with the piece. I still plan to do color stuff but doing tonal black and white is kinda fun and much easier/faster to do. Here's my second shot at it. I drew it in pencil and scanned it into PAINTER to do the tones and clean it up a bit. It came out kinda blurry.

Comments are welcome.

Thanks. I hate that it came out blurry. I put in the effort to make it crisp and clean and I'm still wondering what happened. Anyway, I plan to post a Superman drawing in the Superman thread in the next day or so when I get to it. Thanks again for the compliment.

Thanks!

I did her body in Poser... but as I've said before, Poser requires a lot of reworking on the body, especially the joint areas. I'll try to post a pic of how Poser rendered the figure, for comparison, with black boxes to cover the nudity.

http://www.hanamoira.com/Chris/wwposerorig.jpg

This is what I started with, after Poser was done with her. Heh.

The background was via Mystical (combining and working with various pieces).

As to the rest, I freepainted her costume, boots, and lasso with a little help from Dreamsuite, and her hair was me reworking a hair set someone did for photoshop. (Bought and paid for, heh.)

I also blended a photo with her face, to more closely match the look I wanted. That's not as easy as it sounds... you have to get the noses, eyes, etc. lined up just right *before* you import it into Poser, and there's still a lot of work from there. (See poser original)

Project: Rooftop is having a contest called the Wonder Woman Wardrobe War (http://www.tencentticker.com/projectrooftop/2007/11/06/contest-announcement-wonder-woman-wardrobe-war/), basically to redesign Wonder Woman's costume. I tried all sorts of newfangled ideas but they just didn't feel like Wonder Woman to me without all the damn red, blue and gold. But I can't stand how she looks like such a flag so I figured I'd dress her down a tad. This is a personal design trope that X-boarders will recognize (I did a similar take for Storm) but I figured it was an amusing take. Thought I'd post it here since I was too late to enter the contest. :)

Oh, join the party - I'd love to see your version!

And yeah, Spiffy, I think the iconic parts of her - the tiara, the semi-nudity - they really are her hallmarks and what we come to expect. Anything else tends to look like Donna Troy. She's definitely a hard one to radically redesign.

i got the belt idea from bakla. Thanks girl!!!

when i was thinkin of the design i was thinkin of the color black...but that would make it soo Troia although the none-shaded parts of the costume would be gold...

an all red would be like Donna too.

now that i've mentioned it, i dunno what color to put in anymore...

It has come to my attention that I can't draw Wonder Woman.

I can draw amazingly beautiful powerful Amazonian women but I think, after seeing too many Adam Hughes covers, I just can't capture her essence at all. It sucks.

I think it's awesome. I'm digging the redesign very much.

I'm not a big WW fan, but I agree, the leather jacket (in combination with the black pants and boots) makes her look a lot like Sandy at the end of Grease.

I should add... it's not a bad (bad girl) look... but for WW?

here is my wonder woman art. i have always been a big wonder woman fan and it was a lot of fun doing this piece. i must say Bruce Timm made me a DC fan and i think the timmverse is the best version of all the DC universes. nothing beat watching all the superman, batman and justice league cartoons every Saturday morning while growing up, they are still the best super hero cartoons that have ever been made.
