I know there's already an "Absolute Planetary" that covers issues #1-#12, but is DC planning to release a HC tht covers the whole series? Thanks in Advance.:)

I'd imagine there'll be a second volume collection 13 - 27, as was the case with the original authority run. as opposed to a enormous 27 issue single volume!

Either way, I can't wait... I love these absolute editions!

I sincerely doubt it... as was already mentioned, you'll almost definately see an Absolute Planetary Vol. 2 that covers the rest of the series, but there's about zero chance of seeing a HUGE oversized HC that covers all 27 issues PLUS all the bonus stuff that you get with it...

the best bet you have is for a second printing of Absolute Planetary Vol. 1 to get released... but I highly doubt you'll ever see that...

I loved my copy of Absolute Planetary, but when it got rare someone bought it off me for $200. I'd love for it to be reprinted, but I think a nice set of the TPB's will work just as well.

You do realize that that would be somewhere in the line of 700 pages right? the biggest Absolute that they've printed so far is only about 400 or so pages and that thing could break your foot if you dropped it! That would be an absolutely MASSIVE book... likely somewhere in the line of 10 lbs. or more for an "omnibus" style book...

take the Alias Omnibus by Marvel for an example... roughly the same number of issues included (28 in Alias, 27 + the Preview in Planetary)... with only about 1/2 of the extras that the first Absolute included... and not blown up to the same page dimensions that the Absolute Editions are printed in (actually only about 25% larger than the original comic size for the Marvel Oversized HCs compared to roughly 50% larger for the Absolute Editions)...

that Alias Omnibus probably weighs about 7 or 8 lbs... so you're talking at LEAST 10 lbs for a Planetary "Omnibus" in Absolute format... that's one big damn book... and it would probably cost more than the forthcoming Invincible Library ($125 I believe?)... so you're probably talking $150 and 10 lbs for the book... realistically, I just don't see it happening... no matter if people would buy it or not... it would just be too cumbersome to try to actually READ... and hell, don't hit anyone with it, or you'll give them a concussion!

It would look could on the my book shell:D

But I guess you're right, it'll be a second absolute edition.

Would there be enough 'other' material for a THIRD volume as well?

All the lil crossover pieces etc... i can't remember how many there were.

Maybe
VOL 2 13-24
VOL 3 25-27 + one shots

There were three 48 page one-shots: Planetary/Authority, Planetary/JLA and Planetary/Batman.

Only the first and last of these really starred 'our' Planetary, and only the first was worth a damn.

It's conceivable it could be done but unlikely.

I disagree. While Planetary/Authority was good (if just for the cameo by HP Lovecraft and the Authority fighting Cthulhu) the Batman cross-over was brilliant.

And more relevant to the plot. It was originally supposed to go in the regular series with a Batman analogue rather than the genuine article

800-Page Invincible Hardcover
by Julian Darius 24 Oct 2006 at 17:05 EST

Image Comics has announced an 800-page Invincible hardcover, collecting the first 24 issues of the comic and other material.

Be prepared, however: we're talking $125.00 here.

The hardcover follows the 2005 release of a similar hardcover for The Walking Dead, another Image title by Robert Kirkman.

The new hardcover is scheduled for December release, in time for Christmas.

Press release:

Coming this December, Image Comics is readying a giant-sized limited edition hardcover chronicling the adventures of Mark Grayson, the teen super hero INVINCIBLE!

Written by Wizard Fan Award winner Robert Kirkman and featuring artwork by Russ Manning Award nominees Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley, plus colors by Harvey Award nominated colorist Bill Crabtree, THE COMPLETE INVINCIBLE LIBRARY, VOL. 1 HC collects INVINCIBLE #1-24, 0 and the Free Comic Book Day 2004 story plus over 150 pages of sketchbook material, covers, scripts and the original proposal! Clocking in at almost 800 pages, it will retail for $125.00.

"These big books are a treat to do. They're a bit on the expensive side, but you have to be able to afford an assistant just to help you lift them so I figure people who can afford to lift them can afford to buy them," stated Kirkman. "I like giving people as much content as possible in this big hardcovers and this thing delivers. There's literally not a sketch or scribble not contained in this book. This book has everything but the brain cells that generated it."

Following in the footsteps of the 2005's WALKING DEAD DELUXE HC, the INVINCIBLE LIBRARY is being released for the holidays and will never be reprinted after its initial run of 2500 copies. There will also be a signed & numbered edition signed by Robert Kirkman, Ryan Ottley & Cory Walker, strictly limited to 300 copies.

"Last year we rolled out the The Walking Dead Deluxe Hardcover just in time for the holidays and it was a big hit. I wanted to give Invincible the same treatment and here we are!" exclaimed Kirkman. "These things make excellent Christmas gifts! I'm giving one to my wife--she's going to LOVE it."

Since its debut, INVINCIBLE has received widespread critical acclaim, winning praise from ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, WIZARD, COMICS BUYER'S GUIDE and a variety of comics websites. The series has also been optioned as a feature film by Paramount Pictures, with Kirkman himself tapped to write the screenplay.

"INVINCIBLE has really come into its own as one of the best superhero books on the stands," stated Image Comics Executive Director Eric Stephenson. "We're selling out every issue and sales are continuing to climb, and this deluxe, limited edition collection should make the perfect introduction for anyone looking to catch up on the series fast."

THE COMPLETE INVINCIBLE LIBRARY, VOL. 1 HC is a 768-page limited edition hardcover, available in a regular edition for $125.00 and a signed & numbered edition for $175.00. Both books are available for order in the October issue of Previews and will go on sale December 6.

Yes, this is Kirkman we're talking about but, if Image has the stones to do something like this I don't see how DC could argue that they can't.

Interesting. Usually Planetary/Batman is the one people like. Personally I though they were all decent, but unspectacular

Re-read my post... I mentioned this book... and said that an Absolute Planetary Omnibus style would be right about the same size as the "forthcoming Invincible Library"... because I said that the Omnibus style would be about 700 + pages... minimum...

and one other thing to consider with the comparison... the Invincible HCs (and this is the same height and width, just more pages than the already released Vol. 1 & 2) are the same size as the Marvel HCs... roughly 25% larger in page dimensions... the Absolute Editions are closer to 50% larger in page dimensions... so it would be bigger and heavier than the Invincible Library even if the Invincible book has a few more pages...

They would be something like those Complete Far side books, almost to heavy to read:-D

Or like if they would have done the Complete Calvin & Hobbes as a 1 volume set (instead of 3 volumes in 1 giant slipcover)... the whole set weighs about 25 pounds

Well, if they do a Vol.2 they might re-release Vol.1 so that newer fans can get caught up.
