I picked up this issue today and it's quite good, although the explanation that Dr. Mann gives for the plague is a bit hokey. Either it'll be proven to be incorrect, or BKV will leave us hanging by the end, I think.
I'm glad that this book actually looks like it's winding up towards a conclusion. It's too bad that so many people appear to be reading it in trade, because I'd like to see more people discussing it.
For example: Who's going to die? Alison appears to be stable, 411 is hurt, and Yorick looks like he's going to be poisoned. I'm willing to bet that one of these characters doesn't survive.
I'm also wondering how the hell Beth will figure into this finale, if at all.

So pop wants to clone his daughter to get a chance to be a good dad this time around, but then finds out his daughter is a brilliant geneticist so he starts effing with her experiments to maintain his superiority. Wow, that's really messed up. I hope he doesn't do that to his new cloned daughters "this time around." (though basedon the last panel, it seems he's no longer looking for a second chance after all).

Oh, thank God Toyota and her annoying South Park dialogue are dead and gone now. I just hope 411 doesn't bleed out and join her next issue.
stealthwise, I agree with both your theories in that Mann's explanation for the plague will turn out to be false and that one of our 'main three' won't live to see the end of the series (my money's on Alison, dying while trying to stop Daddy's madness).
Had we not actually seen what Beth's up to previously, I could see BKV leaving her out of the finale. As it is, maybe she and Yorick will finally reunite in an epilogue or she will get folded into the main storyline at some point soon.
Does the series end with issue 60? I'll sure miss this title when it's gone.

It would be a massive storytelling gaff if the Yorick/Beth plot were not resolved. As BKV has set it up as one of the main conflicts, a reunion of some sort is an obligatory scene whether he'd shown what Beth was up to or not. BKV's no idiot so I guarantee we'll see her in or near the finale.

I expect a resolution, but to be honest, I don't expect Yorick to survive, or even meet up with Beth again. My guess is that 355 and Yorick will both die while playing integral roles in resolving the conflict with Alison's father and Alter. Keep in mind that the Israelis still have to enter the fray.

I think Yorick and Beth will definitely meet again--whether or not they live "happily ever after" is another story.
I'm content with the explanation given for the plague. After so much hype the true cause was bound to be somewhat unsatisfying. And quite frankly, the book's science has always been a little shaky.

How many issues has Beth been in? 5 or 6? While she is Yorick motivation she hasn't really been seen or heard of in a long time.
If Allison was responsible for the plague then I would bet she dies in the end.
Frank Herbert wrote a book called the white plague I think that is pretty good and has a similar plot.

I never read Herbert's book, but heard about it. It's the opposite, right? A male scientist uses a germ that takes out every woman, and plants it on currency to spread it across the globe?

I don't think BKV will kill the character that gives the series a reason to exist, at least not now. They'll probably meet again eventually.
And i agree that the explanation to the plague is kind of meh, but i don't think that's the end of it. And it was a great issue anyway.

I'd don't think Yorrick needs to die but since day one everyone has predicted that he will (maybe because he's named after a dead guy from a play).
My theory is that the Isrealies will have Beth as a hostage. I mean she has to be a pivotal part of the series. The series has already created a Beth II and Beth III so it would be silly to just write off the original one.

Somehow morphogenetics seems an unsatisfactory explanation for the plague, I'm hoping this is a red herring that Vaughan is dangling in front of us before the big finale.
There's still Beth and the other Beth and Yorick's kid and the Russian agent and the Israelis to sort out before then.

What needs to sorted out with the russian agent?

This theory is illogical. If only human males died, it could've had some sense, but how is it even remotely logical for this evolutionary development to occur in non-humans as well? Chimps learning how to use tools a thousand miles away doesn't mean that elephants learned too.

umm i am not that good in english. as far as i understood when the first clone was born, without the need of any man, all the male beings kinda know that through that kind of morphogenetics and died cause they were not needed anymore...was it like that?

Well they're still on the run aren't they? And in possession of the only other known human male on the planet. Will they catch up with Yorick? Will the boy survive?
I think I remember hearing that we wouldn't learn the absolute truth about the plague until the final issue, actually.

After reading this statement, I can just see Yorick and Beth (doesn't matter which one), holding the baby boy and staring up at the stars, saying something like:
"I wonder what really caused the plague."
"Truth is, It doesn't matter anymore."
Nah, BKV's a better writer than that. :)
