And who named it? It sounds like something Stan Lee would call them in a lettercolumn, but since I don't have access to original Avengers issues I can't be sure. What was the first occasion the term was used?
What was the first "in continuity" (e.g. in the Marvel Universe) occasion that the Kooky Quartet was called this?

Just to make sure, this is the term for the Captain America-Scarlet Witch-Quicksilver-Hawkeye team, right?

The first time I remember seeing that phrase was in #151, when they were recapping the team's history. I imagine it must've been in use before then, though.
Stan was trying to be cool and make the Avengers sound like they were just like the then current Fab Four.

Yeah, that makes sense. So, the nickname goes all the way back to the sixties in lettercolumns?

Yeah, that's right, the team that came in right after AVENGERS #15 or so.

I don't have the actual issues anymore (Masterworks, baby!) but if memory serves, the term first popped up in a fan letter somewhere in the early 20s. I really don't remember it being used much while Stan was EOC (maybe in a Mighty Marvel Checklist once in a while) and I'm 99.99% sure JKCarrier is right about #151 being its first use within a story.

I fret over that .01%!
